Why is that?

on second thoughts I don't think it's a good idea.. This is a software site, not a graphics site. Although graphic programs are software.. there are many sited devoted to learning how to use software programs.. This site should focus on other things, like.. the best of the best software you can find any where.. or some thing

Yes, I agree. Deal with gimp and other free image editing software.. Photoshop is covered by far on tons of other sites.. like thousands..

Makes sense really.

Might be a bit off topic but they are interesting none the less.

Mouser this is a very good idea.. actually I was thinking of mentioning it. The most comprehensive forum system review on the net.. would make a  nice spot light for DC wont you think? :) The reason I didn't mention was because I thought you would remind me that this is a software based community, but I guess forum systems could be an exception or special review or some rather like that :P

Maybe we should add a Categories section so we know what type of software we're dealing with right of the bat from looking at the basic info table .

Wow this is a brilliant topic on PIMs/note takers/etc..

I just made a review on AceText, which I think should go into a sub-cat of some thing along the lines of Coders Versions or some thing :P

"Anything that shaves off some time in order to concentrate on important issues is a plus""

AceText is designed to collect text, and text only. Not images, not other stuff. The software is simple and serves a good purpose of organizing text/code only, also the clipboard manager is honestly one of the best I have used.

You can check out the review I wrote for AceText here.

I believe AceText is one of the Top 5 PIM/Note-taking softs... Although from this thread I found out there are ton's of programs in this category each with there own unique features.

I think an official review should be made considering how much discusion this topic has caused. It's going to take alot of time to make a solid review. Maybe as the OP intended you could break the catagory down into subs and display the best 3 PIMs/etc. for each sub.

So what do you think mouser.. How about a nice new PIM/Text Manager/Etc. official review. I think it would be good.
:o

I truly believe this topic has created a good reason to write an official review for this type of software..

I think investing in vBulletin ($120?) is the smartest move you can make if looking at a forum, which IS the best way to get a community started.  It's very familiar, fast & flexible.

Damn, I totally prefer Invision over vB :P But I don't think I would buy some thing expensive just for a small dev based forum. If I needed a large forum and knew it would be quite popular etc. I would set up some thing like IPB.

Interesting find.. Added to my powertool list for future needs if any :P

General Software Discussion / Re: WINRAR free this sunday 30th July 2006
« Last post by mitzevo on August 05, 2006, 03:36 PM »
I thought the key would be the same for every one... I never bothered to check tho.
As for posting this here.. I don't think it's a good idea. They specifically set a time zone for license
downloads.. and now it's over. I think you should respect the authors way of business if you know
what I mean. Any way, that's what I think - you should atleast complete the sign up info for the free
key, that's the msg I was tryna deliver.. you can unsub any time from your sign up.
444
You have to take the initiate and try some thing new.. Just choose any one and go with it :P
If I was working on a small project and need to communicate with other developers about it's development or what ever.

I would probably use a newsletter/list based approach.

Setting up a forum like phpBB, or the other free ones, or the commercial ones might be more trouble than it's worth.
You have to spend time moderating and cleaning the forums etc. Maybe some spam nut will come along and spam the
hell out of it. A new bug might be found and used against you before you could have done any thing about it.
I know I'm leaping into big proportions here but it could happen,  :tellme:

A newsletter is a nice and convenient way for delivering your content.

There's another link to get a free WinRAR 3.51 license (non-upgradeable).  This site does not seem to be as bogged down as Sunday's:

I have no idea how long it will stay valid.

Thanks for this, got my free license  :-[  :)  ;D

Ok, I added "30" day trial to top of review.

As for EverNote, it sounds (and looks) like a good general note keeper.. with ton's of features, and etc.

AceText is more for coders/programmers with focused features.

Perhaps some one can write an official review for this category of tool and review both AceText and EverNote.

edit:

Wow guys, I never even saw this topic: General brainstorming for Note-taking software

Alot of good discussion on this type of software.. but still I think AceText is for the advanced user! :)

It seems alot of these type of applications exist/are being created.. Just like any other category of software.. we need to find the best of the best.. the one with the most useful features, etc. this ofcourse means we will need to make sub cats.. i believe its the only way seeing they each have different features and are based for different type of activities. but they all have one thing in common - taking notes, saving text and from there each program pretty much has it's own features or similar features of each other.. I say you don't really need all that..

It's logical.. seperate content from design (AceText; no UI eye candy custimization, etc.) and you get the job done faster and efficiently ;D.

Intro

This is is very cool. It's an information manager.. well, a text information manager, make that plain text :P
Which I think this makes it consistent to work with. You can write/paste/import notes, to-do lists, ideas, thoughts,
projects, any text in AceText and save them in a Clip/Collection. You can sort all clips by folders
to arrange them nicely and neatly.

But wait.. that's not all.. It's other power (one of the many few) is also a being a GREAT clipboard extender..
any power user needs one of these, and AceText is the program to use! This is an invaluable tool.. The text
handling operations you can do a far and forth.

Who is this app designed for
This app. is for people who have text going thru their clipboards/boxes obsessively.. people who need to store
all their text/code/notes/ in one place (you can encrypt Clips/Collections), basically any text goblin.

The Good

Well I work with text ALOT. I mean it, I do! This tool is one of my fav. apps pretty much. I can create entire
projects in this thing. I store all txt/code in here - saves having many .txt, etc. files with single
notes/ideas/snippits of code etc.

+The interface is very clear and appealing to the eye. (not as funky as editpad pro :P)

+The Clipboard functions are a powerful aspect of this program which helps with your text operations immensily.

Coding, writing, keeping notes, writing lyrics, collecting information, collecting links.. and more, you can do it all
with this program.

I used to have a lot of .txt files for each note or piece of code/text I had.. I store it all in AceText now.

+You can search all clips! Really great feature.

+Read and Publish RSS Feeds

Needs Improvement

I don't really know of any needed improvents yet. Maybe some one can help me out here..
I haven't really used it for that long. Only 5 days now with trial.. haha. But I know it's a program I
am going to invest on.

Why I think you should use this product

You should use this product because it's your text god! No seriously, any power user will consider this one of the
MUST HAVE POWER TOOLs.

How does it compare to similar apps

There alot of other apps in this catogary (PIM).
This one is a coders/writers dream. The interface is professional, nice and easy to work with -
no icons/colours/etc. that distract you from your task at hand.

Easy to learn how to use.. The help file is very informative and teaches you how to use the program with ease.

The Clipboard history function only saves text which is consistent with being a hardcore text manager program.

Conclusion

AceText is a powertool for text handling.. a powertool for coders, writers, information collecters, and any one
working with text.

I give AceText a solid rating of 9/10

I''m def. gonna write a review :P The program I have in mind is my favorite program.. really.. it's so awesome..  :-* *me jumping out of seat* .. :P I know you DC'rs will love it if you currently aren't using it. It's a tool for powerusers I guess.. you decide for your self and try it! I shiould be finished an 1 - 2 hours.. Aiight! Try not to get totally curious of what it could be and how it will benefit you.. Hah!  :D

Ok, it's a text manager, read about it here: AceText - Your text/clipboard manager god.

Please tell me what you think.

- Peace.  ;D
