Engelmann from Germany has some simple but okay programs: https://engelmann.com/?lang=en Their Forensic System https://forensic-system.com/en/ could be quite interesting to some of you guys or dolls: >> You can find out everything that has ever happened on your computer using Forensic System."<<

read this email online: "Invalid archive link."

"Still available until May 5, 2017 for just EUR 19.99 instead of EUR 29.99". Cart: https://store.engelmann.com/841/?scope=checkout&cart=184697&coupon=HR4-U93-BF6 offer seems still valid June 23 2017

Forensic System isn’t bound to one PC. You can analyse all the Windows PCs and laptops in your home.

After buying the download version of our Forensic System software, you need to create a bootable USB stick or bootable DVD with included tools. Please first make sure your computer can boot from a USB/DVD.

thank you for the empathy, tomos.

I have more than 95% in doublet.

However, because of the chock, I didn't notice until a couple of hours ago that the operating system now is "Home", and the Microsoft robot refuses to re-accept the 'Pro' key that I activated a week ago. I have not had any chance to de-activate it, because I didn't imagine it would be necessary, and even if I had known, I don't know how to de-activate a Microsoft Windows key; I merely assume one can do it.

Better rating, but still not great.

I realize the 9.9 is of no interest: >"We no longer run the D3D test. Returned scores and metrics are hardcoded sentinel values.">NoD3DTestRun

You can run this WEI test yourself: "Open an administrative command prompt and type winsat formal -v -xml c:\winstatresults.xml.  This will run the full formal test".

Finally I am posting from my new old computer which is connected to this 1920x1080 pixels monitor screen, and all is looking good.

Forgive me for not sounding more happy, but the technician and I misunderstood each other more than I could imagine was possible: After mounting the GeForce 710-2, as planned he also installed a Solid State Drive as my new C: drive. But then he deleted everything from my old C: hard drive, without first copying / moving / keeping anything => absolutely not according to plan! I now have a strong but empty computer.

Thank you, all of you guys.

It made no positive difference to mount a DVI cable instead of the VGA cable. I tried and it all got even worse! I have now ordered a graphics card instead: Nvidia Asus GeForce 710-2-SL or something. It won because it's fairly affordable and the box is stamped "Windows 10 compatible". Like that!

Form fillers will not be what they used to be

1) Form History Control end-of-life?
Saturday, February 4, 2017 | 16:55

As much as I like to further develop the FHC add-on, the upcoming changes by Mozilla make it very difficult, if not impossible, to keep this add-on compatible with future versions of Firefox.

The changes needed to make FHC multiprocess (aka Electrolysis or e10s) compatible are surely possible and probably not very hard to do (although it does probably take many, many hours of work to implement), but the changes needed to make it WebExtensions compatible and maintain it's current features are almost certainly impossible.

The API's supported by WebExtensions do not include an API for accessing the formhistory which is the base for one of the core features of this add-on.
Furthermore this add-on relies heavily on XUL for the GUI and that is also gone under WebExtensions, so the complete GUI and all its interactions have to be rewritten from scratch.

According to the timeline of mozilla, it looks like WebExtensions are becoming the standard for add-on development in Firefox and will be the only type of add-on supported in Firefox by the end of 2017. (see wiki.mozilla.org and blog.mozilla.org)

All things considered I have to conclude that this Form History Control add-on has come end-of-life.

----------------------------------

2) Form History Control II
Monday, March 20, 2017 | 12:59

I am happy to announce that work on porting this extension to e10s and web-extensions has started.

Not all functionality from the current version can be ported due to limitations imposed by the new API.
Due to he lack of a decent FileIO-API importing and exporting history will be impossible. The new API is also missing services to interact with the browsers internal Formhistory storage, so the new add-on must gather and maintain its own copy.

Beyond Australis is looking good, but I use the less good looking Classic Theme Restorer which is more versatile. You may say I am going the opposite direction of FT Deep Dark, as my eyes don't like black on black. « Last post by Curt on April 19, 2017, 03:35 AM »
Please understand that the last week has been quite stressful to me; anything out of order is stressful ;-) My point being that I of course should have listed what measures I have tried in order to fix this weird monitor problem. To put it inaccurate but shortly: I have tried ALL the various suggestions in this thread. The .INF file from the manufacturer was last updated 2013 and was not accepted by Windows, so it didn't change a thing, and so on and on.

Only last night did I begin to understand that most of the problems were caused by the lack of activation! I tried again and again to activate the key from the laptop that I was moving from, but MS wouldn't accept it. Yesterday Windows began to say out loud so even I could understand it, that the various settings I was trying to do, wouldn't be accepted until I had activated Windows. Inside my head I expected it opposite: I wanted to be able say that this x64 Windows 10 Pro was so satisfying to me that now I wanted to also activate it! No, wrong order, MS said: Pay first, then like it - Whether you like it or not...

All this was more frustrating to me than the monitor problem. But at least I now have activated Windows.

A new problem is that our approx 250 years old post system has broken down, due to text messaging and emails instead of handwritten letters, so my cable is out there... somewhere... mailed, but not yet received.

I can see that the technician has removed the old Nvidia card and replaced it with Microsoft Basic:

SpeccyGraphics.jpg

--------------
Modified:
quote from YouTube: "this is a video explaining why you can't update your older nvidia card - and what you can do to fix being stuck with Microsoft Basic Display Driver - and still use your windows 10 OS."

Hmm... what I think I understand is: My graphics card from Nvidia didn't comply with Win 10, so the installer (not "the technician") replaced Nvidia with MS Basic! So now I need a new graphics card? :tellme: That will take more than my two cents!
414
Because this 'new' PC of mine has more brute power, than what I have been used to, ever before, I didn't try to ease its burden, but simply have installed ALL my favourite add-ons:

My favourite add-ons
Application: Firefox 53.0,
Operating System: WINNT (x86_64-msvc)

it saddens me to now realize that most addons (in my spoiler) are not including the proper link to Mozilla. I am not sure I will take the time to correct that many :-(

I never understood the ^mobile^ part. But to make a long and tedious story short: Windows kept updating, and I now have version 1703 Creators Update 15063.138, and no mobile talk... So please forget my various questions in the previous post. I am however still waiting for my DVI cable to arrive.

ehh... "1511"

I have just purchased a license key for my "new" Windows 10 Pro. Of course I was free to also download an iso file of the Operating System installer. I have not yet installed it because I wanted to check if it was newer or older than what I already have. And this is where it begins to be weird. Because my present desktop PC's operating system is version 1511 build 10586, and on Wikipedia's "Windows 10 version history" it says that version 1511 10586 is for Mobile!

Version 1511 (November Update)
Windows 10 November Update, or Windows 10 version 1511, codenamed "Threshold 2", is the first major update to Windows 10 and the second version of the operating system. It carries the build number 10.0.10586. (...)... to existing Windows 10 users, and as a free upgrade from Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Unlike the initial release of Windows, this branch was also made available to existing Windows Phone 8.1 devices and the Xbox One and as a preview release to Windows Server 2016, and was pre-installed on new Windows 10 Mobile devices. This release is supported for users of the Current Branch for Business (CBB)

  • My first question for you is, if my "old" version 1511 10586 for sure also is for a normal PC?  :tellme:
  • The second is, if you most certainly will expect my "new" Windows 10 Anniversary Update version 1607 (no "mobile" mentioned!) to update 1511 without problems?
  • My third question is, if you think I should ask the seller for a version 1703 Creators Update instead?

"Should I move this post to a Windows 10 thread?" would be a fourth question
417
I have just moved from an old laptop to an old but stronger and faster x64 PC. I also moved my Firefox settings, but was disappointed that all the favicons now were missing from the bookmark manager.

Favicon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A favicon /ˈfæv.ɪˌkɒn/ (short for favorite icon), also known as a shortcut icon, website icon, tab icon, URL icon, or bookmark icon, is a file containing one or more small icons, associated with a particular website or web page. A web designer can create such an icon and upload it to a website (or web page) by several means, and graphical web browsers will then make use of it. Browsers that provide favicon support typically display a page's favicon in the browser's address bar (sometimes in the history as well) and next to the page's name in a list of bookmarks. Browsers that support a tabbed document interface typically show a page's favicon next to the page's title on the tab, and site-specific browsers use the favicon as a desktop icon.

Wikipedia_favicon_in_Firefox_on_KDE.png

Favicons can also be used to have a textless favourite site, saving space.
-Wikipedia explaining Favicon

It turned out that the usual trick, FavIcon Reloader, is out of date and therefore has a new name: FavIcon Reloader up to FF 48 only!

Taking a new PC into use, easily becomes a period full of disappointments - and I was annoyed and disappointed for a couple of days, because I could not find anything that would do the trick. But suddenly I looked at the words in a new way: Ehh... How hard can it be, Curt? I removed Firefox 52 and re-installed Firefox 48 and 'FavIcon Reloader up to FF 48 only' - and ran it. Yes, of course it is working with version 48, hence its name! I then upgraded to version 52 and was delighted to see all the small pictures smiling at me again :-)

I am sorry that I haven't been back to this thread a lot sooner.

Due to Easter the relevant shops around 'here' are closed, so for the moment I am unable to prove my conclusion, which is:
The problem is not inside the computer or inside the monitor, but outside! Yes, the problem is the cable between the pc and the monitor.

I am using the only cable I had that would fit the eh.. fitting, and it took me a long time (several days) to realize it merely is a so-called VGA cable, instead of a proper DVI cable. VGA doesn't do high definition, DVI will at least do the necessary 1920x1080.

With all relevant shops being closed for Easter, I have ordered a DVI cable to be delivered by snail-mail.

VGA (blue) and DVI (white):

- these kind of cables will only transfer video, not audio.

I was given a PC, to replace the laptop. This means I can use the "old" monitor I have, but never before have used. My problem is that it is 1920x1080 pixels, and my new Windows 10 does not offer this option! So far I have it set to 1600x1200, but that is not looking good  :(

my version is in Danish, so these are my translations of the User's Interface:

Open Malwarebytes 3 > Settings > Schedule scanning > check Type > click Edit , then in Type of Action change "Normal", to "Defined by User" or Hyper.

Modified:
1) I am not quite sure, because I can't remember this part, but you may have to first delete the job that was already there (instead of editing it), and only then create a new job with your preferred type of action.

2) oh, yeah, Fill "Exclusions" with everything you already trust. Why not?

Malwarebytes 3 is easy to live with, but we have to do the settings, don't we.
