Illegally downloading is probably a much better experience :-/
But I'll stick with paying...
Buy the track from Amazon...download a rip from YouTube...you bought a copy anyway so it should be covered under "fair use".
thanks Stephen,
with Amazon I can download on PC -- I can also set amazon music android app to auto-download, it's just they hide the music and make it difficult for me get to it so as I can play it with something other than the amazon music app. I've done it before and can figure out how to do it again (must record it this time...). So that's doable. Quality is amazon mp3.

I'm not a seriously hifi kind of guy, but I still like being able to rip my CD's to top quality files. And dislike paying for such a pita service that amazon offers. These days I find more and more music that is only available digitally cause it new, or no longer available as CD. So, I may be dragged kicking and screaming into the 'truly' digital age (paying monthly), but I'm quite not there yet ;-)

Impressive. Well done:) :D
yes

out of the box was not what I wanted (I need all that vertical space on on a laptop)

but I was able to change almost everything I wanted to

Thanks 4wd, de.7digital.com has some nice stuff too -- every bit helps.
Amazon does allow you to buy tracks/albums and download, but (especially on android / as opposed to on PC) they do steer you towards not downloading, and having to use their music app. I can and will continue to workaround these factors. Was just hoping there might be something better/easier.

I know all the arguments for, Stephen, it's just not what I want. Hence this thread...
Unfortunately there's almost no alternatives (to amazon) -- and seemingly none that are better. I guess eventually they'll all want to phase out actual purchase of music so monthly payments will be the only option.

Many thanks.  Actually I did go through them, but passed up "post capture" since it seems "Capture Options" is more appropriate.
yeah, true :)
I just meant it in general though, to see what is possible in an app.

It's in the settings under Post-Capture Options
(I'd recommend going thorough all settings to see all the options available)

I'm open to tips how to workaround amazons PITA experience, but would really love another, better option...

Living Room / Legally Buy & Download Music Easily - Is it even possible any more?
« Last post by tomos on January 09, 2020, 03:43 PM »
Looking for a site where I can legally buy, and easily download music, idealy of very high quality.
(No, I dont want to pay monthly for whatever music service.)

Occasionally I buy music from Bandcamp -- it's great but most of the music I want isn't there.

So I've been using Amazon(.de) --
on PC you *can* download bought music, but on Android it's a royal pain. They really want you to pay for amazon music unlimited or whatever it's called. Their next best bet is that you only use the amazon music app to play your music. It's diffcult to download the music, it's very difficult to find it and move it. So I want to give my money to someone who caters to my needs. Amazon isn't doing that.

So, anyone know of a site where I can legally buy, and easily download music, idealy of very high quality ?
TIA for any suggestions

Okay, I've uploaded version 1.3 without the clear memory cache function.  It should now pass your Antivirus tests.
afraid not -- MSE quarantines it (Windows 7 -- Virus definitions from today)

That's got an impressive list of features. Looking forward to trying it out (nice there's a portable version).
Welcome to DC btw

I dont have a high res screen but resize icons seems to be working fine.
Apologies if I missed any comments about icon quality -- the bigger sizes are poorer quality, especially noticable where there are diagonal lines. They seem to be resized up from the 16 x 16 versions.

Nice to be able to delete background to transperent. I'd vote for using the delete key here, but like BGM I'm used to using it that way in image editing programmes.

Zettelkasten — How One German Scholar Was So Freakishly Productive
For me a helpful article because it starts simple and rules out what doesnt work in most systems; (flounders a bit in the middle imo); and only towards the end really describes the zettelkasten system as they see it.

I got the link from an interesting discussion in the InfoQube forum about Related Items (and other possible features) in the context of a zettelkasten (link).

hi relipse, thanks for this
In order to use it I would have to figure out what I spend in various categories. Which would be a good thing, but would take time  (at least a month or two) and focus.

This is great
I was trying to write a reply yesterday when they started messing around with the site ;-) let's see...**

Very nice !

Possible features:
  • ability to resize or make window fullsize (would be helpful due to long list of exe's)
  • ability to sort by selected/unselected OR filter unselected

**EDIT// just reading the thread re upgrading of the site -- sounds like it was difficult (thanks to all involved)

N.A.N.Y. 2020 / Re: NANY 2020 - 1 Key Browsing
« Last post by tomos on December 26, 2019, 05:01 PM »
Hi, love this so far
(I'll call it QK)
Using a German qwertz keyboard, so will probably have a go at changing ones involving the []\;

Problem:
QK has been disabled in the tray, presumably because of some key combo I pressed (I was testing the keys).
  • Insert key does not enable it [edit]Ins key now toggles QK -- not sure what happened there [/edit]
  • Ctrl; does not exist on my keyboard -- has to be CtrlShift;
  • Double click icon does not enable
  • There's no option on context menu to enable
Ahh, okay, I see I have to change it to Heavy Browsing again...

It seems to recognise when I'm in a text field and automatically turn off? Is that possible ?
Or is it that e.g. H (Shift+h) or 'e' do what is requested *and* turn QK off ? (which would be logical...)

In my mind, the zettelkasten works like having my own room in the Bodleian, with my current activities laid out on a large table in the middle, surrounded by small bookcases with the books needed for immediate references.
If I want more, or am moving on, then I can wander round the main library collecting books and other materials as I need. And if I need to do a detailed trawl into less familiar materials, I can ask the librarians to bring me stuff that might be relevant from the stacks.

Concentric circles. The more intensely worked material on the table in the middle, with all my notes; linked books and journals nearby. Associated material a little further away and stuff I might conceivably available after a little search.
somtimes it's hard to understand the system when reading about the details, this a very helpful description

Curious to see the new one.
