Ditto - I had the same experience as Josh. Regarding the free version, yes, you are limited to 10 passcards but you can load your passcards 10 at a time and convert them to a different format (assuming that you can no longer activate the pro version because they've gone out of business or something). I have 327 passcards, so this would be a major PIA. I *suppose* I should be backing the data up to a different format as a backup...

The readme.txt within the .zip states:

You have to install it before the Giveaway offer for the software is over.

Does this mean if I don't get around to installing it right away it won't work?

Well... yes and no. The important thing is to run the activate.exe file during the 24 hour period. Of course, enterprising individuals might just run a program during this process to identify the changes that this makes to your registry. But I'll leave the why's and the wherefores to your imagination.

Like others here, I was dismayed to find myself beaten to the punch by not only sri, but tinjaw as well!

EDIT: added missing word "registry"  :-[

Yup. Agreed. It's not too bad and they're very flexible about it. I do, however, worry about the issue of being able to access my data if they go under. However, if that were to happen, the free version is available so you're data would not be inaccessible - it just wouldn't be very convenient!

The Download ALpass one is awesome! I have seen these before, but didn't really make the connection to the originally posted LOL. I am LOL over some of these - thanks guys, it's been a dreary couple of days and this helps

Hard to know what to respond to - the kind of weak graphic ha ha of the image itself or the appalling grammar of the text... Maybe that's the point?

Yes - this will help me a LOT. Not that SQLNotes is hard exactly, but I'm pretty new to the genre so am still "coming up to speed"

So, Grorgy - this is going on sale again tomorrow for about $33USD for the student edition. Any updates as to how you've found life with it over the past 5 1/2 months? Enquiring minds want to know. I want to know.

Actually, I've once again been allowed to run the demo (maybe there's a four to six month period that must pass between demos?) and I like what I'm seeing, but would appreciate any insights you might have with using it for a longer period, particularly to help you write, which is what I'm primarily interested in.

Cheers!

For some reason, I always think of swarms of Nanobots... I really don't pay much attention to the names of the various apps that I use - I'm more focused on the functionality! Just me though... I'm a bit of a GUI agnostic, as well...

Best File/Folder Compare Tool / Re: Ultra compare
« Last post by Darwin on November 10, 2007, 10:33 AM »
Update (thought I'd updated this back in April!) - as it happens Ultra Compare Pro is a nice app but limited to comparing text files, so can't be used to compare things like xls files, which is functionality that requre.

Note that BC3 has STILL to be released as a public beta - getting on for three years now...

Hmm... I've loaded a demo of Compare It! - very nice nontroppo. I'm tempted to buy a licence - $21 today. But I've already got Beyond Compare 2, Folder Match (not even installed), and Ultra Compare Pro (lifetime licence) so am not sure that I can justify it! Love the GUI and the speed though. Much quicker than Beyond Compare

So... any compelling reason for me to jump on this, other than to satisfy my unquenchable thirst for new and exciting software experiences  :-[ :o

Yes siree Bob, er, tsaint! Ad-Muncher is developed by Murray Hurps in Australia. A LOT of my favourite apps are developed in Australia (DOpus, Admuncher, Resource Hacker, ExcelPipe, StatistiXL, RapidPi, etc.). Good stuff!

Anyway, glad you've gotten some satisfaction out of Corel (missed saying that in my last post) and hope X2 proves to be worth the hassle!

Purely coincidental, but I had to reinstall WinDVD 8 Platinum last night and ran headlong into a brick wall with it because I couldn't activate it. When I bought the upgrade Intervideo owned and maintained it. Corel now owns it and I couldn't get my activation code (they only last 10 days from generation) which is now available by clicking on a "get serial" link. I'd click the link and the page would refresh. I finally noticed - after a good hour of cursing - that the link was for the page that I was looking at, so e-mailed Corel support via their online ticket system adopting an exaperated tone that culminated with: "How the h@#$ am I supposed to activate my software?!". That was 7:36 PM (PST). I received a reply with the solution at 9:24 PM (PST). I was quite pleasantly surprised by this because I was anticipating not hearing from support for at least 24 hours and that their first response wouldn't solvce the problem. So convinced was I of  this that I uinstalled WinDVD!

BTW, Ad-Muncher was the culprit - it was blocking the popup that contained the relevant information (so you see, there WAS and Aussie connection!).

Lets hope it doesn't go the Winamp (sucks the llama's ass) way.

I have an OCD like a lot of others to go with the newer, bigger, faster software

You and me both!

but whenever I've combated it and decided to stick with an older version, the decision has invariably paid off.

I've been trying to do this for years. Have only succeeded a couple of times. Other times I've succeeded in "holding out" for a full release or two and STILL break down and upgade. I need help...

Yeah, I should have posted this earlier, but I got a batch of responses from the developer a couple of days ago (he must have been on holidays or working on a big project or something) and he said much the same thing. He also indicated that he is working on the Outlook issue but can't give me an timeline for release (I'm guessing it's going to go into version 4 which should be out in the next year, based on his past release rate and the fact that the current version is 3.93).

The world would embrace something like XP 2008, where the core product remains the same but additional drivers are included, the Aero interface is an option, and loads of cute new themes (shudder) are thrown in for fun.  Charge $99 for the upgrade and people will pay.

Agreed. This is essentially what Mac does with their OS - these new versions that roll out every 18 months or so are paid upgrades, but the price is very small. AFAIK, you simply go buy the latest version and install it. I *belieive* the price is in the $100 to $149 range. Compare this to the pricing scheme for XP and Vista! Nontroppo would know better than I (my OS-X machine is simply too old to run anything newer than OS-10.2 and is a glorified toy WRT how I use it, so I don't pay attention to the cost of OS-X!).
