SirSmiley, Thank you for that kind thought BUT LinkChanger did what I need in seconds, which is all that I had!

I really had to stick my head round the door again to do this    before I head back to things I'd rather avoid  :)

Thanks to all!

AndyM, Right drag and drop didn't change anything for me. The shortcuts still pointed to the original location.  That would have been a nice quick solution.  I've never found XP updating its shortcuts except by doing a big 'flashlight' search... is that what you meant?  I'm using XP  Pro if that makes a  difference.  (On days like today I want OS/2 back).

Shades, I'll try the link changer, looks to be a good answer.

I'm trying to fiddle with this between other demands to which I must return my attention.  I'll take another crack at this when next I can, so I'll post results... later.

Thanks a lot for the help!!

Background:
On one machine, I'd built up a comprehensive system of shortcuts pointing to a repository of documents.
I had renamed all of these shortcuts, and grouped them in ways that make sense to me.
All of the shortcuts (.lnk files) reside in one folder, or sub-folders thereof
Now I have moved the whole thing to another destination on a different machine.

Question:
Can anyone tell me a fast way to change the <drive>\<folder> portion of the
<drive>\<folder>\<filename> structure in a couple of hundred of these things?

So, suppose they all point to         G:\Library      (e.g. G:\Library\RefDoc1)
I want to cause them to point to      Q:\NewLibrary   (e.g. Q:\NewLibrary\RefDoc1)

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Is this feature request still in your to-do list? I'm asking because I downloaded latest v2.42.01 version and behaviour is the same as previous versions (screenshots folder is created automatically if it does not exist)

I think he's mousered it (new verb in the language, apparently).
To mouser; roughly translated, fail to devote every scintilla of attention [to topic, person, etc.].

Nice to see you posting here, Sugar.

Another nice job!

You know, I hang around here an awful lot but the newsletter always points me to something that I missed.

Thanks!

expose your user to the type of derision scorn and brutal demeaning that I have found to be useful, when a user sticks with a piece of software that is limitlessly bad.

;)

So, you don't like Windows?  ;)

Picked up the new box today.
Seems fine so far.
Opted for 32-bit XP for now.
Runs very cool and quiet.

Murphy dropped in to ensure that the new machine's arrival coincides with a tidal wave of business and a (so far) 30-hour email outage from ISP.
In spare (hah!) moments I'm ebarking on the somewhat daunting task of setting up the system from scratch.
That's always a dichotomy: tedium/frustration on one side, the good chance to improve on the other.

Thanks to all for your help, it saved me a lot of time!

but gaffers tape is his grown-up cousin

It's true!

Then there's that rubberized, self-bonding tape that'll make an an instant non-slip grip on any tool handle, and the armoured stuff that you can wrap around your fingers when you mislay your carver's mail glove... oh, and the double-sided carpet tape that acts as a clamp between boards when bandsawing multiple same-profile parts, and the high-friction stuff for drawers and jigs, and the low-friction tape and...

We need a tape thread  :)

now you really are ready for grad school
I too, except in my case you left off the 'e'.

I've yet to find a salesperson that can do more than read the box to me   >:(
You have salesmen who can read?!
Boy, you're living large there!

Take a few pages of your own paper with you to the store.  Make any purchase conditional on seeing output and watching it emerge from the machine yourself.  Most, if not all, machines will run out at least a test page which will give you some idea of what you're getting.  If the machine is on display then there's an open box somewhere with the manual in it.  Even your ever-so-educated salesman can probably find it given sufficient motivation.  That'll tell you how to get the test if you're unsure.

In fact, language inaccuracies on the web are so burned into it's very culture that they are starting to change language itself, beyond the web.
I take your point, and that's how language evolves -- the web is just one current influence -- but why condone mindless, unchecked carelessness?

For those who don't know of DonationCoder, what first impression might the following create? Free or paid?
Service Profiles was an entry to the Donation Coder programming competition and it rightfully got a price there.

I'm sure you're ahead of me but I'll say this anyway...
If you can get to a store that has one, I'd certainly take a look at the output from an MP610 before buying, especially its text.
I've no reason to think it'll be anything other than acceptable but it's always good to see some physical output before buying any printer.

Good luck in your hunt!

Pity they can't proof read.

Many who write for the web seem to believe that accuracy in language is irrelevant.  >:(

[Congratulations, again, to Eóin]

I do hope you get this fixed!

Can sympathize as I have some of the same.
Do have satellite/can't get wireless
Service is up and down like a [fill in your favourite simile].
Paying much more than your rate.
Sometimes dial-up is faster.
Price one pays for living in a nice, peaceful part of the countryside.

There's no way to excuse the abysmal behaviour of your provider, whose contract probably
allows him to drop you for being unreasonable enough to expect at least indifferent service.

Perhaps we could some up with a list of questions

Here's one for you.

buy duplicates of small tools you use a lot and put in different places. That way you'll always have some close to hand and won't have to spend time searching for where you put them so often

Or, speaking from experience, you'll have a massive supply all in one place... if only you could remember where.
3846
Argh :) You need to watch out, throwing puns like that about when we're nearby... or we'll eagle-y seize upon them and use them in the strip.
Don't be a tease!

i'll admit, it wasn't a deliberate joke. Tim saw the connection and assumed i was being clever.
In that case he should be deflocked, Vicar.

if you do significant amount of text printing i definitely recommend a laser+inkjet separate printers.
I couldn't agree more!

Which reminds me, about 18 months ago I bought my wife a little Samsung 2010 (laser) for about $80 on sale.  That does a very creditable job as a text-only monochrome printer.  Small footprint, quiet...  I never hear anything about it, which is good news (I hear all about stuff that's problematic).  ;)
