The fund raiser could tie nicely into the idea.

App103:  I know how helpful mouser is but my idea is for the individuals who may not be as comfortable asking for such assistance.

I gotta feel that there are many users on this forum who have either never cashed any credits or have cashed very little credits.  Having a DC store of sorts would be encourage individuals to use their credits in trade for stuff.

Maybe I should turn this post into a poll just to get an idea of the numbers - not sure if I can make an existing post a poll.

(I know mouser will bend over backwards for someone who *asks* for assistance in anyway)

Now that you put it like that I understand about the swag stuff.  My NaNy 2006 is my favorite mug for coffee.

I never knew about the Amazon cash out option.

Still may be cool to offer additional purchase options for use with Donation Credits.

Not sure if I am the only one that collects DC's and doesn't use them because of a strange feeling of using something that is truly not mine and belongs to DonationCoder more than to myself (feels like DC and mouser deserves them more for all the hardwork).

What I thought may be a cool idea is to have DC offer swag that can be purchased at costs that would include all shipping (both to DC and to you) so the net cost to DC is zero.  The swag could range from DC swag to general computer stuff to audio things or books or such.  Like you can purchase an Amazon Gift Cert or USB Thumbdrives or MP3 players.

Not sure the amount of work.  I wouldn't think much since it would just be a small offering - maybe 10-20 active products at a time.

Thoughts?

Here's my current 404 error page:

Here's the old one:

Kinda fun playing around with 404 pages.

General Software Discussion / Re: Database Design Software

I like EMS for SQL Server and Navicat for MySQL.  Those are what I have found to work best for me.  99% of the time I work in MySQL.

Here's a pretty complete list of tools for MySQL (might work for SQL Server):

For SQL Server check out EMS (their free tool is still powerful):

General Software Discussion / Re: Help! Good flowcharting sw needed
« Last post by Veign on May 09, 2008, 08:54 AM »
Veign recommends EDraw Flowchart.

I bought and think this is a great tool.  It very easy to use and you can be up and running in minutes.   I reviewed many when I was looking for a flowchart program and EDraw was better, and easier to use, then the rest.

I need to find one from where I am: I live in Game Cock country (Game Cocks are USC's mascot).  I will see if I can find a We Love Our Cocks shot glass.  Only place in the country where you can say that on the radio without worry.

Living Room / Re: Searchme - another visual search attempt

Seems like it would be a very inefficient way to look through results.  What the current search providers (Google, Yahoo, MSN) do is for a reason, it works.

Might be fun to play with once but not for everyday use...

Pixeur is my choice. Straight forward, does what it says it's going to do, rather than trying to make me bacon flavoured coffee in the morning while massaging my tired feet.

Glad you like it

EDIT: Wow - I figured the 3D effect would make it more eye catching. Hmm...

3D text is a very old effect so it makes the logo (?) look dated.

Have you looked into Windows Home Server?  I have heard some great things about it.

Feature Creep is one of those things a young programmer needs to learn to handle and avoid.  Its so tempting and hard to ignore since you want to get all your ideas into the application.

My recommendation is to create a suite of standalone, specific, applications where each one performs a specific thing.  Then when you still have more to give but no desire to create an application, start releasing source code (classes and code snippets) and give it away on your website.

That's what I had to do.  I have a few tools which I enjoy maintaining and a code library where I give the rest away.

You have a ton of ideas and way more ambition than one person should be allowed to have  :)
Good luck.

Your portfolio so beautiful... especially gradients in 'E403 North Lake'...

May I take this Idea? ;)

No.  Client paid for the design.  I would not want anyone taking a design I worked very hard on.

Hello,
My site http://www.toycatsoft.com have no JavaScript, rollover buttons designed by CSS methods. Hard work about month!  ;)
Welcome!
Any suggestions will be nice!
 :)

As far as websites go.  Its clean, neat and easy to understand.

Quick glance at the code and that's very nice.  Just need to close the img tag - since you are trying top validate to XHTML 1.0 strict.

This:
<img class="boxshot" src="img/boxshot.jpg">

Should be:
<img class="boxshot" src="img/boxshot.jpg" alt="boxshot" />

Isn't it dangerous to have Windows shut down with a single keypress?

- yes and no, but mostly No...
I have been using F12 since 11-11 last year, and the only unwanted shutdown was when the neighbour's cat stepped all over my keyboard, so I will say it is fairly safe. But that may also be because I never have used Scroll Lock for it's original purpose - whatever that may be!

Another thing, though, is, that Scroll Lock may be a far better button than F12. Since November I have had to uncheck hotkey activated features in more than one program because they wanted to use F12, but never have a program wanted to use Scroll Lock - at least nothing will happen if I press that button. So I might actually decide to swift to this $12 Power Off Key of Anatolie's, in order to reclaim lost features!

I guess it depnds on the user.  I use a laptop and keys are all kinda close.  Combine that with coding in the dark late at night and sometimes keys get pressed that shouldn't - explains alot of my code  :)
