I was suprised at the end though when I saw all the gold/silver connections - in any world one would have to query that ;-)

True enough. The same goes for pretty much any topic/industry though -- do the experts in the field have a vested/conflict of interest? Do you trust doctors to tell you about health issues? Again, they often have a conflict of interest, so... It's hard to know who to trust/believe. Griffin & Schiff in there I think lend it a lot more credibility. Griffin has been writing on the topic for a long time, and wrote one of the most important books on the topic of money & banking (The Creature from Jekyll Island).

Do check out #6 in my series of articles there. There is a good list of more videos on the topic with some basic commentary on them (from me). The first two are simply incredible - fantastic historical accounts that walk through just about everything you'd ever want to know there.

I might understand your fractional reserve banking stuff better after that introduction.

I'd say just jump in and read my articles and play with the software. I've gone over things to introduce the topic to people that know absolutely zero about it, and at the same time, I've got enough "meat" in there for people who know a lot on the topic -- all the while keeping it simple to read and easy to understand. It's extensively illustrated with diagrams, flow charts, graphs, and other illustrations.

i.e. I wanted the make the topic easily accessible to anyone at any level.

For the topic itself, I've only added a few new ideas to the discussion.

... you need to get a bit more cynical Renegade :D
It's a video advising us as individuals to buy gold - and made by (for?) a bunch of people who just happen to sell gold and silver (did you watch past the credits?).

Something a bit more in-depth would be nice. A bit of real investigative journalism maybe. It is well made, and seems to have some good points, but I do get tired of these promotional type videos where it's their word against the word of the people in that video over there where they say something completely different and they all believe so fervently...

Actually, I posted that here because it's pretty tame. I'm very familiar with some of the people in there, and you might be a bit overly cynical there. G. E. Griffin is well known as is Peter Schiff. There's a historian in there as well, but, I won't try to convince you. This is just a tidbit and there's a lot more to know.

e.g. Did you know that J. P. Morgan manipulates the price of silver? (Verifiably so and namedly so.)

Have a look at my very simple introduction to the fraud of fractional reserve banking:

http://cynic.me/2012...reserve-banking-1-6/

(The hard core "meat" is in #3.)

I've also got a simple fractional reserve banking simulator for Windows, Mac, Linux, a web version, and I've finished an Android version that I'll release when I have time.

The good stuff in the video picks up around 35 min in or so. (Depending on your background on the topic.)

If you want more in depth, check out the 6th article in the series I posted. It has links to quite a few more good resources.

Of course there's the simple piratebox that could be set up with this- a separate wireless network in the same building as your standard network...

The PirateBox would still need to be linked into the network as the PB network is independent by itself. It would also likely need some software rewritten, but still... a deadly combo. :D

Living Room / Facebook Turns to Spam
« Last post by Renegade on January 20, 2013, 08:38 AM »
Well, it was fun while it lasted, but Facebook appears to be heading to the graveyard. I can't see why people would want to bother with it anymore as it blocks things you want to see, and posts spam for you.

It took me some farting around to be able to see the first thing there, as most of the things I subscribe to on Facebook are blocked by Facebook now. i.e. Facebook won't show them to me easily or at all.

But, then it just shows game spam and other spam.

This will not sit well with people, and Facebook will lose users. I'll likely check it every now and then, but my usage will decline by probably over 95%.

Fun while it lasted... Looks like the business guys have taken over and are about to completely ruin Facebook.

Oh well. Next? :P

(Oh, and I'd like to plug mouser's screencast program there! Check in the NANY 2013 programs for it. And yeah, I know... crummy audio... from my webcam mic. Not mouser's fault.)

I've always found that red head women are usually at the extremes -

My GF says she prefers we think of it more as "a study in contrasts." ;)

I've learned when it comes to her ilk, it's best you not take anything for granted. :tellme:

I take it she's a red head?

In other videos, while diamonds may be a girl's best friend, you usually need money to get that diamond. Here's a documentary about money that's quite good:

I've always found that red head women are usually at the extremes - and the gorgeous ones are simply to die for. Don't see many in the media though. There were quite a few around when I was a kid. Meh. Demographics are funny things.

Here's a decent article on deleting yourself from the interwebs.

http://lifehacker.co...from-the-web-forever

With Google cache and the Internet Archive Wayback Machine, it's near impossible to completely wipe yourself out, but there is some that you can do.

Sick of horribly embarrassing things showing up when potential employers Google your name? Tired of everyone knowing you live in a garden level dungeon apartment? Perhaps you just don't like the fact the internet makes you easy to find. Thankfully, it's not that hard to delete yourself entirely. Here's how to do it.

For mildly famous (or infamous) individuals, disappearing is essentially impossible, but for the average person it's surprisingly easy. It just depends on much info is already out there.

Take some of that with a grain of salt. Or have an inflated perception of yourself - either way. ;) :D

If you liked Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog, and liked Felicia Day (the really cute red head), then you may like this:

DRAGON AGE

It's a fantasy web series, and the production value is spectacular.

There are several episodes, and they're available in HD (1080p). (You might want a downloader for them.)

However, if you're outside the US, you may have trouble watching it. Have no fear! Another DC thread saves the day!

https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=33292.0

Get that, set your server to the US, restart your connection. Poof! All of a sudden you've teleported to the US for IP purposes. :D

The show is produced and written by Felicia Day, who also stars in the TV show "Eureka". She's quirky, peppy, energetic, and extremely entertaining!

GO GINGERS~! ;D :P

While less "gadgety" than some of the above, my headphones have a couple nice features.

akg-240mkii.jpg

http://www.akg.com/s...e,EN,view,specs.html

The top headband really makes them feel a lot lighter. This is especially noticeable when you're wearing them for a long time.

While not in the picture, they come with cloth covers for the over-ear-pads. This is much more comfortable than plastic, as plastic makes you sweat. In fact, this is one of the most important feature that I look for in headphones.

The detachable cord is also nice, but I don't really use that. It's more or less for transportation purposes.

The sound quality is great. When I do audio work, I only use headphones - not speakers (except for speaker testing), so great sound and comfort are important to me.

They have very good dynamic range at 15 to 25,000 Hz, so they're ideal for pretty much any use, though you clearly can't do LFE with them, but nobody expects to slap sub-woofers onto the sides of their head.

^^ I like your #2 there. Having the verb in front (most often) let's you skip remembering and lets the code completion kick in. For boolean values, "is" creates an additional level of clarity as it set up a yes/no question, which makes it far better than "get".

I've been following the web series H+ The Digital Series and have found it quite enjoyable.

H+ posits a near future "transhuman" scenario where a nanotech implant called H+ has been introduced that allows a person to be connected to an enhanced reality internet 24/7. All looks good until the system (and implantees) get hit with a cyber virus.

The story gets told in a non-linear fashion as the episodes in the series (46 to date, each running 3-10 minutes) move back and forth to moments before, during and after the infection leaving the viewer with clues in order to piece out exactly what happened. (Note: each episode has annotations which provide clues and point out various themes in the series. I suggest you watch each major chapter (about 6 episodes per) once with the annotations initially left off for maximum fun. Then re-watch them with the annotations on to see how close your conclusions and observations match up with those of the writers.)

Very well done. Recommended.

Episode 1 - Driving Under follows. 6 entertainment minutes well spent IMHO:

(Wikipedia entry here.)

FINALLY got around to this... DAMN! It's pretty cool! On ep3 now, but so far, it's a pretty cool idea. Very dystopian. Very scary. Well, I suppose scary if you read stuff like Techdirt as opposed to the magazine Gore. ;)

Very much looking forward to the rest - got 3 chapters cued to download. :)

If you like the odd funny B movie, then from A+ Productions, get ready for a Z movie!

ALIEN CRISIS!

There are 2 x 3 minute episodes, and they're pretty funny.

For some better scifi, The Thaumaturge is pretty good. Not long, but a good story.

Yes, and if I was an American citizen and I saw the FBI/State judiciary flipping someone the bird like that when given an FOI, I wouldn't stand for it. Why would you pay your government in taxes, just to have them do that to you?

What was it that FOI meant? I believe when the state delivers it, it means:

I'm not really fussy on a lot of things, but I do really agree with him on method names. I like "VerbSomething" (or "verbSomething") as it really is nice to group similar methods alphabetically and to give you a quick look at what it does. I also like things like "OnSomeEvent" too. It's really just aesthetic. My main concern is that it works. :D

What do you call a reality show 30 years ago?

Answer
