General Software Discussion / Re: Software to share To-Do lists?
« Last post by skwire on February 22, 2011, 01:29 PM »
But the best solution would be a networked drive that can work over WAN.  I need to be able to work with the files in the actual folders they are in.  Not with some kind of two-step sync method (dropbox, skydrive).

I have a feeling this doesn't exist because it would basically lead to closed loop p2p activities.  But it sure would be cool to be able to access your friends' folders/files in a way that it appears as a regular folder in your file manager.  That seems to me to be a very convenient tool.

I've already mentioned in your other thread that you can do this using Hamachi or NeoRouter, etc.  Install, create a private network with the two of you, map a shared folder and you're done.  However, if you're dealing with large files, you will be subject to your internet pipe's limits.

THANKS ... AGAIN
When I click on the link in Firefox, the un4seen BASS forum starts to load the thread then goes to the un4seen home page. I had to switch to Opera ... again ... Is there some compatibility problem(s) between Firefox & dc.com? forum?

Not that I'm aware of.  I use FF almost exclusively...

In my posting at your website last summer I also asked about being able to open the options with a global hotkey - would like to ask again now!
What about setting the default path where Trout should look for playlist files? I don't see/know how to do that now. Is/Would that be possible?

I've been meaning to add both of these things so, yes, doable.

Another item I submit for your consideration (maybe you might consider it an enhancement) is what if Trout users could hide or fold in/out the buttons? to increase the width of the tag & etc display.
The tag display for many of my mp3s is bursting at the seams, so I thought it would be great if Trout users could hide the buttoms (which I now no longer need) to increase the width of the tag display

No, thanks.

I could NOT post the previous post with an attachment in Firefox.
I had to switch to Opera. Anyone know why that might have been the case?

No idea.

A related note is that hitting next when Trout has been stopped causes Trout to start playing the current track instead of the next track ... I then would hit b again once Trout was playing to move on to the next track ... Same goes for hitting previous when Trout has been stopped - Trout starts playing the current track instead of the previous track

It's by design (I prefer it this way).  Some players do it this way...others don't.

Maybe I should clarify a bit; I don't mind so much the pledges and pledging.  It's all the extra incentive stuff that we're discussing that I don't care much for.  IMO, a pledge/donation should be made without any expectation of something in return.  Yes, granted, often you do get something in return but I don't think one should expect it when they make a pledge or donation.  That's how I was brought up *shrug*.  So, when I see us focusing our effort more on what people should get in return for a donation/pledge rather than using that effort to spread the fact that we are soliciting donations, it irks me a bit.  Not much, mind you, I'm way too laid back for that...but a little.   :D  I'd just rather see our energies more focused on spreading the word and, as you say, "gather together, have fun, do silly things."   :P  I'm more of a "get things done" type of person as opposed to the type that likes to discuss things endlessly.   ;D

Not to want to rain on things...but I'm not super keen on the whole pledging concept in general.

I completely agree with 40hz.

By now, mouser (and Perry, haha) know I don't much agree with all the extra rules (maybe too strong of a word in this case) and structure that tend to get added to things over time.  I don't like change for change's sake and I don't like solutions in search of a problem.  I feel they just muck things up and people lose sight of the original goal and then focus more on the all these new details that don't matter.  I feel that people are either eager to donate or don't care one whit about it.  No amount of incentive will get the latter to donate.  Personally, I do not donate to causes with the expectation of getting something in return.  In other words, I don't think that there are as many swayable or "on the fence" types as you might think.  Instead of putting the effort on trying to win that group over, we should put the focus onto getting the word out to the blogosphere.  Word of mouth is powerful stuff.

Correct, Trout does not have any built-in hotkeys; that's why I wrote the whole hotkey system so that people could set their own.  This begs the question, though, as to why you're setting local hotkeys within Trout and then trying to call them from another script.  Why not set global hotkeys, in the first place, and use those?

but does anyone know what was wrong with the intermediate bass.dlls?

Yes, there was a thread on the BASS forums describing your issue.  Ian Luck, the BASS developer, fixed the issue.

No ... I've never seen (and still not found) anything listing built-in Trout hotkeys! What/where are they?

Menu > Tools > Options > Hotkeys tab

I already have 10536. I see nothing in the changelog about pause commandline ...
Does Trout now have pause commandline?

The latest build is 1.0.5.39.  I pushed it this morning.

I have always wondered why Trout was made with the WinAmp ahk_class?
Certainly complicated my AHK scripts ...

Because I wrote in partial support for the WinampAPI into Trout.

It doesn't matter how I send the local or global hotkeys.
WinActivate, Trout ahk_class Winamp v1.x
Send c
does not pause Trout.
Send ^#c
does not pause Trout.
It doesn't matter whether I do ^#x or ^#v or ... Trout never responds.

If I can ask without sounding like a complete arse, why did you expect Trout to respond to a "c" keystroke or ctrl-win-c, ctrl-win-x, ctrl-win-v keystrokes?  I'm going to guess these are default Winamp shortcuts?

I don't know how to suggest easily replicating this fail/overwrite problem but wanted to mention it ...

That's rather strange, thanks for reporting it.  If you come up with a reproducible sequence, please let me know.  As a workaround, you can set a hotkey to the "Rescan selected" action.  I have mine set to F5 (local, not global).  This way, you can make the changes in your preferred tag editor, switch back to Trout, press your hotkey and all highlighted rows should update immediately.

If you could easily add a PAUSE command line option that would be GREAT!

Check the latest build.

Trout, with a GUI written in AHK, does not respond to custom Trout hotkeys when an AHK script sends the hotkeys (at least not for me ...)!

You do know that Trout has its own built-in hotkey system, right?  At any rate, how are you sending your hotkeys?

Does anyone know what the problem/fix was?

The new BASS DLL fixed the issue.

And what is your opinion  about to implement a method based on the shared memory?

Trout has a disabled feature that writes out the currently playing info to an XML file.  I can change it to a different format as well (such as INI).  Would this be good enough for your purposes?

Confirm, latest build does not give this error on W2K anymore. Thanks for the update skwire.

Fantastic.  The change I made means that, under Windows 2000, Trout loses the ability to read certain types ID3v2.4 tags.  So, if you have files that use that format, you may have to convert them ID3v2.3.  This is extremely easy to do with something like mp3Tag.

I played the mp3 sample on my P4 1.8gHz 1gb RAM laptop with XPP (and two internal HDDs ...). When I played the mp3 in Trout with bass.dll 2.4.6.0, I heard the "skip" at 1:40 & 1:55 & 2:10 & 2:28; HOWEVER, when I played the mp3 in Trout with bass.dll 2.4.7.1, I did NOT hear the "skip"! so ... that seems to be GOOD NEWS. I played the mp3 again in Trout with bass.dll 2.4.6.0 and heard the "skip" again at the same times ... in case you are curious to try that ...

Confirmed.  I can hear the skip in BASS 2.4.6.0 and not with BASS 2.4.7.1.  So, issue solved?

Anyway, on my PII JA plays 128/44.1 mp3s at about 50% CPU usage but plays 96/32 or 48/24 or 32/24 mp3s at 100% CPU usage - which causes playback lockup.

I'm not sure why JA does that? I can only guess that JA resamples the 32/24 kHz mp3s to 44.1 which causes the much higher CPU usage?  I would like to "solve" this problem somehow/sometime ...
Any ideas?

I really have no idea, sorry.  I'm far from being some super audio expert or some super professional programmer.  The fact that Trout has such low CPU usage is more a testament to Chris Mallett and Ian Luck than my programming skills.  They're the authors of AutoHotkey and the BASS library, respectively.  I'm glad Trout has found a niche role on your older laptop; I've had several reports from users that they're able to use Trout in that way as well as on machines running Windows 95 and 98.

Thanks for your testing, feedback and patience.

I listened to the whole track but didn't hear anything out of the ordinary.  However, try the latest build (1.0.5.36) and see if that fixes anything.  If you'd like, feel free to contact me via instant messenger since it might be easier to troubleshoot this in realtime.

Hey, I've removed some files from Plugins directory and now do not get this error anymore!

It was the AudioGenie3.dll causing the error.  I've disabled its loading under Window 2000.  You can put all the plugins back now.  =]

I've tried to run this application on my old Win2000 SP4 computer, every time I start this program, I get the error "Trout.exe - Entry point Not Found. The procedure entry point InterlockedPushEntrySList could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll"

Thanks for reporting this.  Try the latest build, please.

Thanks, I have the file now.  Does it skip at the same time each playback?  As much as I like Santana, fifty-one minutes is a long time to listen...  =]

Thanks, worstje.  I found that as well but it's the same link as the one provided in the post.
