Thanks for the link, Cuffy. I note that they do offer the occasional downloadable offer, too  Also, Nero 7 appears to be on offer as well (from earlier this year but seems current) for as little as $0!

Nice tip, Carol. I'm glad I read your post before installing  I also ran Ashampoo's Uninstaller and can confirm that while writes are made to the registry, none of them relate to activation or licensing. I copied the folder Carol mentioned and used a different machine to install Evernote Portable to a second thumbdrive. Worked flawlessly!

Dalchina - I missed the Burnham-on-Sea link the first time - that looks promising too, though I normally need to send forms, etc.! Still, very nice find, thanks!

If this was the IRC channel, tinjaw would end up being kicked for flooding (nah, maybe one of the operators would kick himself out :P). I've got to say that it's the most original form of inflating post count I ever seen ;D

Thanks Darwin!

You're welcome Lashiec! but it was tinjaw...

The real wonder to me is that Stardock resolutely refuses to release a standalone version of ED and it is marginalized in their development cycle  :( I've written to them a number of times urging them to remove it from Object Desktop and make it available on its own. They have "no plans" to do this and that is that...
3537
Ah, thank Tom! "when you need the updated registration code" makes me happy!

Curt - you outed me! I gave this another shot and have been running eBoostr for almost a week now. I am definitely seeing some improvement in my system when I put it under stress and have more or less sorted out the boot problem. As I note in Ron's thread, I'm just dithering about purchasing it. The resource "hit" is negligible...
3539
I just go to the website and navigate to the download page. If the version listed is higher than the one I have installed, I download and install. That's it! BTW, I assumed that when version 4 is released readers of the thread that you reference were to write to the developer to remind him that he had posted there about a free upgrade. Actually, I think the thread I am thinking about was Zaine's mini-review? At any rate, I am hoping to get the upgrade to version 4! I have found SFFS to be REALLY useful - use it all the time - but then I don't use the schedule so haven't had any trouble in that regard.

I love Enhanced Dialogue but have long since removed it. Why? Because its mere presence on my computer (ie even when installed but disabled) renders 16-bit application open/save dialogues from appearing  :(

Otherwise it is my favourite dialogue enhancement tool and my favourite Stardock app. Like Jim, Enhanced Dialogue survived all of my Stardock purges, until the last one. Now I'm Stardock free...

I thought it was G-R-E-A-T

However, I'm biased  :o

The questions mouser raises - about length, content, tone, etc. seek the kind of feedback that we're both interested in. Obviously, with so many readers we can't please all of the people all of the time, but it's nice to have some guidance so that we can walk the tightrope that is the middle ground...

Yup. I have a D-Link from 2003. At the time, D-Link were very highly thought of and I've no complaints with it beyond lack of WPA support and an incredibly poorly organised GUI for the admin console. However, my impression is that as of 18 months ago, anyway, they'd slipped in 'esteem'.

For cost effective solutions, Trendnet and Belkin are worth a look, too - though I've no idea about quality, etc.

Just out of curiosity, which shareware cleaners are you using? Also, why are you using a total of five cleaners? I thought that received wisdom held that you should pick one and stick with it...

I'm going to have to do my "due diligence" on this as well, SKA! I haven't really paid much attention to routers in about 18 months so will need to figure out which way to jump. Linksys and Netgear *used* to be highly rated, so I'll probably start there. However, my sense is telling me that there are a lot more players today...

Good tip about the admin password - not having one set up (default is blank) is asking to have your network broken into!

Dalchina - thank you! Unfortunately, I often need to fax to South Korea, which I don't see on the list. Still, it's nice to know that such services are available so this gives me hope that there is something out there for me! I can also use this for the UK and Europe, so that'll help me right away

Nope. There IS  a firmware update I wasn't aware of (from 2006!) but all it does is correct an issue I'm not having with NTP... I have a DI-614+ Rev.A router WPA is offered on the DI-614+ Rev.B router  :o

It's probably high time to get a new router... I've been thinking this for a couple of years now, because of the WEP vs. WPA issue. Have to see what the Boxing Day sales bring!

Heh, heh - I suspect you're right, Lashiec. I already run the Windows Firewall so *think* I'm safe. Regarding a firmware upgrade to provide WPA... I've given up waiting/checking for one. However, it's been about a year, so what have I got to lose! Router is 5 years old though... (D-Link 614+).

Curt - the question was a bit off the cuff and might be better placed in a separate thread BUT there's already several that deal with this issue.

I was thinking of the first one as I wrote my post above - I'm going to read it and the others now:

General Software Discussion / Re: SQLNotes...what is it exactly?

I hear ya, Armando. I can't imagine Find and Run Robot called anything else and, quite frankly, the same goes for SQLNotes... Just "fits" in my mind. I don't like any of the names in the poll with the possible exception of EchoNotes. I'm going to have to give this some thought before casting a vote over there!

Yes, this point underlay what I wrote above about transparency. Maybe I wasn't very clear (no pun intended  :)). Transparency was a bad word choice, come to think of it, as it's not exactly like developers go out of their way to hide this information from their customers, it just doesn't come up very often.
