good timing of this post -
i actually took a tweezer today and removed the *BLANKET* of dust that was covering my cpu fan.
result: cpu is now running 10 degrees cooler.
removing dust from fans i critical to having cool healthy computer..

i had a $250 graphics card fan stop one day, and it killed the card.
a clogged and stopped cpu fan will kill your cpu.

get yourself some of those compressed air canister and blow out your computer insides and fans occassionally.

hahaha...
ok ok im sure its not to hard to enable them for those are are curious to see them..
and of course it will bring us a bit of revenue if you click them.

ill add an option in members profiles so they can turn visibilty on and off, that should make it easy.

the thumbnail component is buggy - it has been a constant battle to work around its bugs and i have finally decided to get rid of it and replace it (see other threads too).

the new solution will be faster and more stable; i will try to have new version in next week or so.
34982
brotherS reported same problem - it is because of that damn thumbnail browser.
i have decided to replace it right away it is a never ending battle trying to make it work right.
i am going to fix it.  we will lose details mode, but we will gain speed and stability.
34983
ads will be invisible to honorary/charter members, that is as it should be.

DesktopCoral / Re: Help
« Last post by mouser on October 11, 2005, 09:16 PM »
I'm afriad that the options in the dialog labeled "Docking Position" were added by me while i was contemplating changing the way users should control docking, but accidentally left in when i decided not too.

the way you are supposed to dock it is actually to Uncheck the Transparent Mode checkbox and then drag it to the extreme side of the desktop you want to dock to, and then Recheck the Transparent Mode to make it fully transparent if thats what you want.

But it sounds like you are saying that you have the settings at 100% opaque and the transparent mode unchecked and you still can't see it? or you can see it but not drag it?

I will try to make a new build of DesktopCoral in the next couple of days and clean up the options and change the way i turn off transparency and see if that helps solve your problem ok?
34986
does anyone use the view -> details mode of screenshot captor?
i want to replace the thumbnail display code but it will probably eliminate the ability to change modes to details view.
anyone use this and would really miss it?

hi kevin,

you can download a freeware license key that removes that message here: https://www.donation...r.com/Keys/index.php

there are instructions on that page on how to enter the license info.

[i dont think this applies to you but if anyone donates and finds that their forum account still lists them as 'visitor' at the top of the forum page, don't hesitate to email me ([email protected]) to tell me i haven't upgraded your account yet].

Screenshot Captor / Re: new feature coming: zoompanel
« Last post by mouser on October 11, 2005, 02:04 PM »
And the "area of the visible part" in the Navigation panel is also nearly unvisible for me.
This area should be colored, or darker or more bright than the rest.

agree, i will try.

ps you can just slide the zoom/nav panel fully tothe left to hide it if it is distracting.
ps2 if you want it to always stay in nav mode, go to options and turn off auto switch.

i was thinking of testing some algorithms to try to auto select borders of menus and stuff.. i will look into it.

forgot about that request, i will add it.

id guess then that its shutting itself down, due to bad config or inability to reserve port.
definitely check for a log file.
34992
the common way to find out what might be stopping it is
to start shutting down any security apps until the blocking stops.

might want to disconnect from the internet first..

of course it could very well be that apache or whatever from running -
check for a log file to see if there is any reason being given for it exiting.
34993
that's a very sweet gesture

after some careful thought, combined with suggestions on this forum, we are going to *TRY* incorporating googles adsense adwords.

as promised these ads should be 100% completely invisible to all charter/honorary members of the site.  you should not see any ads, ever.  the site should look completely unchanged to you.

only non-member visitors will see ads.

i think this makes some real sense and is definitely worth a try; in a real sense it seems to be a good solution because it means that even those who dont donate and join will be giving us a tiny bit of revenue from the advertisements, it adds an incentive to donate to the site (to remove the ads), and lastly, it has 0 impact on donating members.  so in that sense it seems kind of ideal.

the only real downside is the possibility that it, like the license keys, will end up annoying *potential* members who have not yet joined the site; that would be a terrible shame if so.  however, i think it's worth a try to see how it goes; we can always remove them.

ah just saw it - let me check it out.

yes i see, it thinks its a file extension and then doesnt know how to save it with that file extension..
i will fix.
34997
You mean an option for popping up a tooltip 'bubble' in the tray after the images was saved to notify the user?

no, what i meant was to make it so that if you move your cursor on top of the screenshot captor icon in tray, it will remind you what your current template or quickfield is (ie it would tell you how the next screenshot you take will be named).  just as a quick reminder and easy way to tell if you need to open up program and change it.

i wonder how that compares to other forums..

General Software Discussion / kbang - kids type safely on keyboard with pictures
« Last post by mouser on October 11, 2005, 10:17 AM »
we've talked about such programs before on this forum.
here's a freeware one:

http://www.dimadsoft.com/kids/index.php

KBang shows images of different animals and plays corresponding sounds (like meow for cats and bark for dogs) when kid plays with the keyboard.

Don’t be afraid that kid will damage your computer, well, may be keyboard itself :-). Program locks keyboard so that kid can't do anything to your computer. To exit the program it is necessary to click in top-left and then in top-right corner of the screen.

do you remember what values you were trying to set when it crashed?
i have my doubts that this is significant enough to warrant changing icons..
but i could have it should the quickfield value in the system tray menu or tooltip..

ps here is what it looks like if you keep telling sc to take a screenshot of itself, over and over:
