Well... I'm still going through the several ideas / systems for GTD.
But right now, i've settled on some stuff:

I like the "next actions" and the "instant boss" ideas. They will definitelly help me getting things done ;)
Right now, i am keeping on my desk only my computer, my cell phone, blank paper sheets and a space to put the next actions todo lists.
Although these todo lists in paper have a big problem with the portability that i need, i'm keeping them for now (i hope i'll find a better system in the upcoming weeks).
Tomorrow, i'll be getting myself a calendar to start setting days for doing stuff.

Right now, i'm only sure about the qualitity of one thing in my sistem: Instant Boss. It definitelly makes a big help in the working scheme, and looks like i've adapted to it quite well. Thanks app!!

Ok... Here I am reporting back on this one.
Only now i was able to get this first assignment done, but i'm glad i did it!
For those wondering if they should or shouldn't take some time to organize their workspace, i definitelly recomend: YES, do it asap!

I've removed everything i had on my main desk. Now, only my computer and work papers remain.
I also did something similar with my second desk (where i couldn't put anything anymore because it was cluttered with trash). It's definitelly a good feeling to be able to look around and see some empty space.

While i was on cleaning mood, i also cleaned the wall behind my computer, which was full of marks. I think this was important because now i don't have anything to distract me while i work.

This was definitelly a productive day!

I wonder if there are "layout translations" as well as there are "language translations". I am thinking of localized keyboard shortcuts; so basically the finger movements are the same, so the keys are different. This would be very convenient for us Germans too... I shall try to find out.
Well.. I already changed some of the most important ones, but if you find anything about it, please report back!!

I can't let this go past without mentioning vim :P I am a vim fanboi after all. The new version vim7 has (inline) spell checking support now as well!
I hereby cast my vote for vim too.
Although i never do anything very fancy regarding text editing (i mean making documents or such, i produce mostly code and .txt help files or notes), i've been using vim for about 2 months now and i feel very confortable using it.
It isn't the "average" text editor because of it's user interaction based in "modes". But sure can be way faster to use, with much less effort. On the other hand, to use it's most advanced features, you have some studying to do  ;)
(also, some of the keyboard shortcuts, although customizeable, are made for english-layout keyboards and don't go very well with my portuguese layout :( )

I definitelly think that it's a good piece of software!

heh, heh, heh, brilliant.

i think it's the ultimate improvement.

great work, jgpaiva.
It sure is!
Even i like it, and i don't use dialogmove (things moving by themselves on my screen without me telling them to confuses me :S)
It was definitelly a good idea!

Glad you like it ;)

Ok... Sorry for the delay.
It's here, dialogmove 1.8.9.
Added the "move to active button" option. (if there isn't an active control, it acts as it did before).

DialogMove v1.8.9 updated 09-10-06:
moves windows smaler than a given size to a place closer to the mouse position.

Yeah! Definitelly cool!
It's fantastic to know that people consider something i did as a good program!
It also got some pretty positive comments which is an even better bonus.

Many thanks to DonationCoder for helping me out in developing and getting this program out!
And don't forget the owner of this grand idea... Nudone!

Ok... At last an update!
Here is RescueOrphans v1.0.

RescueOrphans v1.0 updated 09-09-2006:
Retrieves single files lost in deep directories.
[Forum Topic][.ahk Version][.exe Version]

Features a full gui, about box, fixed confirmation dialogs, added a new option (delete folders, which deletes the folder from where the file was moved, if it's an empty folder) and lists the modifications.

Hi all

v0185 Titlelog
-added fiter to logview
That's looking good!

@jgpaiva, would be very interested if you develop a better report/view/etc with Ruby.
I played with it a bit, but hated ruby. Phyton is quite interesting, though, and i'll see if i can make something interesting out of it.

lost old version of v1f so I will re comment the script in the next version.
Notice that the .exe version you posted can be unpacked into a .ahk file again by using Exe2Ahk.

cody has a lot of credits waiting for you, jgpaiva - if you can implement the 'intelligent' position dialog to place highlighted button under mouse cursor.
Oh... Sorry, actually, it's already done and working, but no config yet. I'll try to upload it still today.

i love dialogmove more and more each day - especially when i have to use someone else's retarded machine that doesn't have dialogmove on it.

New version uploaded! (ScriptVersion = 1.19.22)
TucknDar found a giant bug concerning disabling the mbuttondrag method. THANKS!!
Also, fixed 2 typos in the hotkeys options, also found by TucknDar.

I'm now thinking about adding a new method of interation: modifier + leftbutton (working on the whole window, like the mbuttondrag currently does).
Any opinions?

General Software Discussion / Re: keeping/saving cloned files
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 08, 2006, 11:55 AM »
Which one do you mean, the filesystem thingie, or the daemon thingie?
Oh, i mean, the filesystem one. It doesn't copy the file itself, it only creates another reference to it.

General Software Discussion / Re: keeping/saving cloned files

The filesystem NTFS does support this feature (unix guys will know this as hard link as opposed to symlink). But the operating system on top of NTFS doesn't offer easy access to this feature. There are, however, tools which will let you make more use of NTFS.

Sadly, I do not know any such tool by name :( I only know they exist.

If you don't use NTFS but FAT32 you will need something different, some watch-and-clone-changes daemon or so. I am positive there are free tools for this.
This is the best alternative, but NOTICE THAT THIS METHOD DOESN'T CREATE 2 DIFFERENT FILES!
So, it can't be used for backup.
It only creates 2 references for the same file.
Now.. Here's the solution (if your filesystem is ntfs): http://www.topsharew...s-download-41791.htm
It looks like the author's site (the first 2 results on the google search) is down.

I am hesitant about throwing out data, as you can never put it back in.
That is a very good point, i had the same idea. That's why i'm learning Ruby, because it has regex support (and i have some knowledge of regex) and will help me filter the list just as i'd like it.

will post when I return
Cool!

Just another small comment:

You should add the following line:
OnExit,Exit
To the begin of the script, so that if the user forgets to close the script before he shuts down the computer, the script will know what to do when windows tells it to end it's processing.

This is a serious deal!
There were already a few methods of opening a door without a key before (even some that didn't damage the lock),but this one is so damn simple.
Good thing it doesn't work for the kind of locks i have at home ;)
Good point about insurance companies not paying anything.. :S

Actually, tasklog was made by skrommel. (i made hotstringscript, which was the one i corrected you here: https://www.donation...13.msg34968#msg34968) ;)
(Really sorry for confusing you guys..)

fSekrit / Re: Progress towards v1.2
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 06, 2006, 05:20 PM »
What will v1.2 bring?
Somewhat more secure, by using a non-zero IV (techy stuff ;P). (done)
Even more? Cool!!  8)

Import and export of text files, because copy/paste can be a bit tedious. Also, it seems that the win9x clipboard is limited to ~12kb of text?, so this is needed for win9x support. (not started yet, should be easy)
Would it be possible for it to import other notes, so that updating can be easier? (not a big deal, just scratch it if it's hard to implement)

Better win9x support. By creating a ~1meg note on NT and loading on Win98, I found out that large notes are read just fine by - but when saving, only ~60kb makes it to the file. (shouldn't be too hard to fix)
Nah... Let 9x users burn in their own hell..  :Wizard: (just kidding of course! i think they'll definitelly appreciate that update ;) )

Damn, this is a neat idea!
And evolved into a cool program, congratulations doublebogey!
You're definitelly getting some credits for this

Btw... I think it's logging way too much titles, would it be possible for you to add it a way so that we could specify a list of window titles not to log? (if they could include * and ? i'd be most appretiated ;) )
I will definitelly use this as a way to keep track of what i've been doing.
Thanks!

(i have a small doubt: the log is made per-day or per-start of the program? I mean, if i start the program on one day, and keep it open till the next one, will 2 logs be created? Edit:I could just have read the code)

Yet another request: so that the list won't become as big, would it be possible that when the AHK_ID was kept, the program wouldn't make a new entry? I say this because programs as opera or vim change their title frequently and tend to generate an ocean of entries. (maybe this should be kept as an option, as some might like it as it is)

[edit] you forgot the .ahk code for the latest release[/edit]

Ok, now i understand what gtd really is.
I got even more interested :D
Thank you so much for your time in making this, mouser!
It's a fantastic post and gives quite a good idea of what gtd experiment 2006 will be.
Looks like it's time to send you some credits ;)

this is a common problem, which codec pack do you use?

try uninstall it and swithc to K-Lite Codec Pack.
Oh, man... why didn't i post before???
Thanks kimchii. apparently, that was my problem. I changed the codecs, and it's working now!
I wonder why it worked before and just stoped working from one moment to the next.
Well... But it's ok now, thanks to you.
3374
Ok... This is getting way too anyoing, i thought it was about time i posted my problem here.
Well.. Basically, the thing is: both file explorers (explorer and dopus) crash when i open a directory that has many big files. (i think it mostly happens with .avi movies). What most intrigues me is that this happens not only when i access the disk but also if the files are on a dvd. As soon as i open that folder, the file explorer crashes.
Also, i am able to open the files (both by command line, or by the "open file" dialog of my video player).
Further notice that if i use winrar to browse to the directories in matter, it doesn't crash, which means it's a file-explorer related issue.

Any ideas?

fSekrit / Re: Search inside Fsekrit?
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 05, 2006, 04:53 PM »
I definitelly support mouser's opinion.
Even though fsekrit is a powerful app which i use to keep my most important passwords online, you definitelly should think about considering a dedicated password manager. Though if you need fsekrit's portability for all your passwords, maybe that's the best way.
Nevertheless, find on fsekrit would be nice :D
