You'll run into the money problem. It takes a huge amount to get something like that off the ground. Just because you build it doesn't mean that they will come. Given the state of things now, you're looking at needing more money than I think anyone here has.

Recently, I have noticed a whole lot of changes going on on Facebook which 90% of us seem to hate. (Pictures instead of words, countless privacy problems, changes to the theme that they never inform anybody about, and give you no choice other than to use it)...sort of feels like we are being led by a communist government while browsing the site.

My main question is, why do we still insist on using the site?

Is it because there is no other good option for what we do on facebook?

Perhaps its the ease of not having to register on another site?

Maybe its time for a change eh?

Anybody interested in making a new, social networking site, that doesn't make an ass of itself, and offers its users a chance to actually keep its setting how they where before, by adding cool new features, and giving the users the option to activate them, or keep the same, but if they do activate, give them a page to go back to previous versions/themes.

If so, inbox message me, this is something I have had in mind for quite some time.

No applications will be taken from anybody who wishes this site to make a crap load of money, and will be doing it for no other reason.  The only reason I wanna do this, is cause i am SICK TO DEATH of moaning about Facebook, and want to do something about it.

Um... Using the typical 10" screened netbook price of $400 as a (starting) point of reference.

The new Air is on sale now in two versions: a 13.3-inch model costs $1,299 to $1,599, depending on the amount of memory, while the 11.6-inch product starts at $999.

“They priced it really aggressively,” said Shaw Wu, a technology analyst with Kaufman Bros. LP in San Francisco. He also advises buying Apple’s shares.

$1,000 for a device with an 11" screen is considered pricing something "aggressively"...Why?!? (Viciously maybe) ...What (Koolaid Soaked) turnip truck did this clown just fall off of?

Agreed,

With me at least, the desktop will never die.  Ican never get what I need from a laptop, especially with screen real estate.

Laptops are also stupidly hard to modify if you have big hands (I have rather large hands and chunky fingers), this also means I sometimes have to connect an external keyboard in order to type with any actual speed behind me.

Gaming:

I simply CANNOT game on a laptop WITHOUT an external mouse/keyboard.  The touchpad and onboard keyboard are useless to me.

Writing/Programing:

Can be done on laptop, however, with the lack of screen space, I find it difficult to concentrate because i am having to constantly minimize my window to grab something from the background or choose a new sone because my playlist has repeated itself 6 times.  At least on a normal computer with multiple screens, this is solved because I can have what i need for writing on one, and everything else on the others.

OK, I'll admit, this may not be a tiny program, however, while recently trying to make it, I realised its beyond my knowledge of programming.

Firstly, read this example:

You own an online company, developing websites and software, and you hire multiple self-employed, work-from-home coders.  You have never met these people, but you are sure that they are up to the job.  You are paying them for how long is takes them to finish a project (So long as they dont go over a specified deadline).

How can you be sure they do ANY work for the first 3/4 of the deadline, and cram it all in at the last minute, so it boosts thier payment, even though they could have got the job done a lot faster, got paid less, but maybe got offered 3 more projects in the same timeframe?



This is the dilemma.

My idea, is to have a productivity manager, that monitors files, and uploads word-count and such to a graph, that the project supervisor can see, from any computer with an internet connection and a web browser.


The monitor should also have a filter in it to count how many lines have been added, how many files have been modified, how long it took for each section, maybe add in a WPM counter (Words per minute) and also a filter that will detect if random characters have been added to the document just to fill up the space whilst the coder takes a break.  The system will also upload any modified files, directly to the manager, owner, supervisor, or anybody else who has access to the monitoring admin.

Obviously, because of what this is, and whose computers this will be added onto, this should NOT be open source, purely because if we are installing this on a programmers computer, whats to say they dont alter it to thier own advantage?

There should be a peice of software that has FTP access so it can upload files and modify graphs on a website (FTP login info selected by the user) and should also upload (without user consent) a log of exactly what has been uploaded.  This log should be uploaded to a seperate folder on the FTP that only root admin have access to.

The website itself should be password protected via user registration with an admin back-end to choose how to let registration happen (no authorisation, e-mail activation, admin activation only) etc...

There could be a lot more features for this software, but for the moment, im going to leave it as this, and see what you guys think of it.

I believe it was Ryan Air (or other 'price-fighter') who wants to get rid of the co-pilot, because the auto-landing systems on passenger airplanes are so reliable and quite sophisticated.

Granted, a car requires a lot more sophistication because of the nature of traffic it is used in. But I would not mind having one of those auto-piloted cars...especially in the congested traffic hours!

wouldnt shock me if its Ryan Air...the same airline also wants to abolish seating on flights...so passengers would have to stand, so they could reduce the weight from removing seats, and cram in more people (Sounds dodgy to me) - Also defies the safety instructions..."Make sure your seat is in the upright position and your seatbelts are fastned"...I HAVE NO SEAT BELT...I HAVE NO SEAT

I was mearly suggesting that, if you want something to do, exactly what you want it to do, and nothing actually can, then perhaps creating the software yourself to suit your purposes might be a better option for you.

Im all for free speach and personal opinions, if I wasn't, I would have had this review locked, stopping any of these comments...

I don't know if this is a solution to what you are speaking of, but here goes:

If you are looking to restore files after they have been mofidied, then this is not possible.  However, if you cannot be sure that the modification is suitable, then why not test it in a folder that is not going to overwrite another file.

Perhaps having 2 backups running might be an idea, one for testing, and one for actual, fully working and fully tested files.

I speculate:
- The auto-robot will try to activate the wipers
- If the problem persist, it will log the fault condition, negotiate the side of the road, turn the hazard light on, send SOS and turn off! 

In the near future, the optics will be outboard, with a dedicated simple cleaning system like the one on sport cars camera-car.
At the present time, it will probably simply warn of the fault condition, the pilot take control, stop, clean, restart.

Since this is working at the level of a VPN connection, I assume that it's usable to establish a Remote Desktop connection to the machine at the other end?

How does it affect TCP/IP routing? Specifically, I'm wondering what happens if I try to use this to connect from work to home. If I have a connection open to my home computer, will my network stack still know that work-internal traffic should not travel through the Hamachi VPN, but stay within work?

No RDC options in the version I reviewed, but you _can_ connect to public shared folders on the target machine.  That is the only real connection you have to the other machines, if the setting on said machine(s) is enabled.
