I guess I could create a new page, and link to this page for reference if that works.

That's probably the best thing.

Justice could even add a note and a link in the OP??

I agree - which is where the 'completion' type operation should kick in... it's coming along! And your feedback (all of you) is really helping

There is nothing like getting it out there to get people excited and develop the ideas :D

BTW can you define spaces in mnemonic? I was trying to add an address I'm always typing "2 Civic..." but I got errors....

Not at the moment... but soon!

Neat... for me I think that'd work much better where I don't have to remember a whole lot of codes. I think, for me, the more the code is what I'd normally type the better :)

Perry, I'll be uploading a new build in  the next day or two with further stability enhancements... I  agree it's also not clear why Auspex fills the mnemonic field automatically sometimes. I'll be cleaning that sort of thing up when I get to the end of cranioscopical's bug list. So, around May... 2037

Sounds good  ;)

Will you use this page or start fresh??

If you're starting fresh (code and pledge) then this maybe should be withdrawn, but if you wanted to pick this pledge up then maybe you can just take it over? There must be some way to give you edit rights to the OP??

Auspex seems to be filling regardless  :-\

I must be doing something wrong as I keep getting errors trying to add these manually  :(

Yes I have thought about profiles - now you've mentioned it  :D - such a good idea. Thanks Perry!

The other profile like thing I wondered about is having programmes that you want the entry to be active in: bit like your exceptions but the other way around.

One other little quirky thing... I was trying to set up an auto-complete email address -- I'm pretty sure that Auspex doesn't like the punctuation.

Would it work to have an ignore punctuation for single entries?

I'll look into the IE thing. I must confess I don't use it and it's all too easy to forget that it's still by far the majority browser.

I use FF illegally at work  ;)  There are other issues with DC on IE too (like the TextArea scrolling).

Have you thought about profiles? I was thinking the ability to switch between different settings could be quite handy if you have lots of entries in each and would mean I wouldn't need work.perry and private.perry to define the same type of data but different for different purposes.

One other little thing...

When changing the Name I got this error:
Auspex change Name.png

Then (not sure if it was always like this??) but the "Remove this Entry" tick box does not change per entry:
Auspex change Name 2.png

And note the entry: It says "Auspex" but it's "Perry Mowbray" in the tree...

Perry - does this one work for you now?

.49

Except... it stops me entering text into Internet Explorer (8). I had to quit Auspex to type this.

What happens (it seems only to happen in IE) is that the Alt Menu gets triggered before the key strokes. So when I was trying to delete some of the above the window menu would display and no key strokes would be sent to the text area  :o

I've restarted Auspex now and it all works OK until the first trigger, then the input gets stollen...

BTW: when trying to insert "important" into this text area this is where the tooltip appeared:
Auspex important.jpg

After that the input was stollen and I had to quit Auspex to continue typing...

It does not seem to do that in other applications   :-\

In FireFox it's all OK I just typed this important bit in FireFox:
Auspex important FF.jpg

... and the menus are not stolen  (IE... who'd use it  >:( ... but lots of people do...)

Found this: The Spirit Level Delusion: Fact-checking the Left's new theory of everything

It would be nice to get both and compare.

OT: I loathe buying books here. The prices are simply through the roof. I went into a book store the other day and just about choked. $50 book going for $120. (Ok, $49.99 going for $117.99.) I hate feeling like I'm getting fleeced.

Yes, that's an interesting find: but the readers' comments were somewhat disconcerting... concerning the unbiased nature of the book. If you do read it I'd be interested in what you thought.

Certainly the Spirit Level comes with an outstanding pedigree  :)

Only the super rich can afford to play games like this with the legal system.

100% agreed. It's very much a shame.

Combined with a general decline of philanthropy, I think it can only point a general increase in selfishness amongst the haves (be they individuals or companies)  :(

Our economics are so rooted in training our haves to be greedy and buy more (than they need)... was it Carter (when he was President) who said that America would defend their right to maintan the lifestyle they'd become accustomed to with military force (this was during one of the oil crisis I think)? Australia is currently stealing East Timor's Oil and Gas reserves...

Read Karl Marx. :)

He's got a few good points to make. :D

The Spirit Level: Why More Equal Societies Almost Always Do Better has a lot of good things to say based on a lot of data over many years...

I don't know if you followed Australia's implementation of a GST a couple of years ago? It was marketed as a GoodSimpleTax, but it turned into a huge fiasco.

The issues that Australia bumped into were about trying to balance the Good and the Simple with the Equitable.

A flat 10% is not equitable as the people with more money have greater responsability and should be contributing more, and what the poor have often doesn't cover their needs.

The cries for Tax Reform often come from the nouveau riche and the people who have some money and want more. There was a very interesting book published in England recently that analysed various contries statistics and determined that the greater disparity between the rich and the poor, or the haves and the have-nots, leads to an unhealthy society.

A groundbreaking work on the root cause of our ills, which is changing the way politicians think. Why do we mistrust people more in the UK than in Japan? Why do Americans have higher rates of teenage pregnancy than the French? What makes the Swedish thinner than the Greeks? The answer: inequality. This groundbreaking book, based on years of research, provides hard evidence to show how almost everything—-from life expectancy to depression levels, violence to illiteracy-—is affected not by how wealthy a society is, but how equal it is. Urgent, provocative and genuinely uplifting, The Spirit Level has been heralded as providing a new way of thinking about ourselves and our communities, and could change the way you see the world
The Spirit Level: Why More Equal Societies Almost Always Do Better

Company Tax is something a bit different, as they give back to society in different ways and although it's not a "tax" providing employment, necessary services and other benefits, and it would be difficult to account for all of those things. Which is why that book is interesting as it looks at the end result to measure the inputs rather than trying to measure the inputs themselves...

As 4wd says, in Australia you only get to claim Tax Deductions when an activity is used to generate income; ie generally a business... and even then, it'd be an appropriate percentage for shared items. Mobile Phone usage is a classic...

We can claim the Accountant's fee for preparing our tax returns. We can claim debit interest and accont keeping fees for personal accounts that generate income.

I don't think we'd be able to claim computers / printing costs / etc for printing out forms for personal activity.

I  can upload a logging version tomorrow by all means. What happens with 43? Simply nothing appears when you type your trigger phrases?

Yes... just sits there looking back at me  :( That's been the case since 32 (something changed, because 32 still works)

Did we get anywhere with a logging version? 43 still is not working for me... but what's somewhat annoying is that when I run the version that still works (32) it quits saying that it's out of date  >:(

Interesting thread: thanks!

I work in Local Government and we are seriously under funded, in fact, the whole funding model has moved (slowly and inexorably) from a tax based system to a user pays system. I'm certainly not happy about that or the inequalities it creates, but it's the flavour of the moment in Australia.

We are certainly moving toward online acceptance of forms / applications, but it is very slow. We provide all our forms both on line and at our various offices. Thankfully you can call our Call Centre, talk to a person without navigating any audio promps and request a form to be mailed out for free.

I think codeTrucker's point is entirely valid. If was my office, I would have expected the person "helping" to access the form (on line if necessary) and print it out for them (all free of charge).

In my ecconomy, if a form is available on line, the costs of accessing and printing it out should be compensated by the time required to visit the office to obtain the forms personally. Saving time saves money: it's your choice (well, hopefully you have a choice).

Actually...

When my father was doing his leaving exams from school he insisted on writing them with quills that he'd made. That was until his fellow classmates complained about the squeaking that the quills made on the paper and the head insisted that he use a fountain pen like the rest of the cohort.

Being a (slightly) rebellious chap (always wondered where I got it from) he went out and purchased some Biro's, which had not been used in that institution previously, and proceeded to become the first Biro writing leaving student!

I tried Bvkup because of the delta feature, which is the only that my
favorite backup program is lacking, SyncBackPro.

I must be totally stupid, but i did not find the restore feature.
What's the point of backing up without the possibility to
restore? I'm used of backing up ntfs attributes, so i can
not simply copy back files to their original location.

If someone can point me out the solution.

Can you not simply copy from the back up location to the original location?

There is no "Restore" option as it simply mirrors the directory(s) you're watching... just do it manually with something like windows explorer  ;)
