Anyone happy with the new ATH?

Um... ATH?? What is this ATH of which you speak? ...I'm waiting to see how the SEC/ETF thing plays out. Is it anything to do with (/like) that?

That was my problem - the fact that my partner put other WP sites on the server that I didn't know about.

Yikes!!! I would have come completely unwound on that one. I'm not much of an authoritarian - I basically hate rules - But breaking the 'everything must be documented' rule around here is all 5 of the top 3 absolute no-nos.

I'll vote for the last two above..

I had a similar problem ages ago - the simplest solution is to have multiple IP addresses on your server and when a problem arises and you are sure nothing bad is going on simply ask the data centre to swap to an alternative IP and presto you are clear again.

I use a slightly different variation on the same theme. All of the traffic going out of our network (including various secondary web sites) is forced to one IP in our CIDR block except the primary mail server (we have 3) which stays segregated on it's own IP so it's allowed to rise (or fall...) based solely on its own reputation. The other two mail servers are a private authenticated relay server (for customers), and a hidden "Human Firewall" Phishing server (for IT access only) that we torture the staff with (both are on separate IPs).

However a few years back after running with a flawless reputation for almost a decade, an ISP swap landed us with an address that was blacklisted by one of the listers. But after a - bad Stoic moment - low grade ballistic phone call to the ISP it got sorted out in a matter of hours.

Most of the blacklist sites have an interface that - can be a bitch to find... - allows you to submit yourself or a "retest" to get delisted. First offence removals aren't usually difficult ... But second offences are intentionally treated quite harshly..

Although the price leaves something to be desired, I have to say I have been impressed with the smoothness of the process of using InstantSSL (comodo).

Same... I ended up going with Comodo for a wildcard cert. Price was a bit of an ouch, but the process was super smooth.

They might as well just turn on your web cam and get a look at you to see if you are "their kind of person" before they allow you to log on.

Dude, don't say shit like that ... Somebody'll want to try it... (eek!) :D

I believe I've mentioned this before, but it sounds like they might be softened up enough - post breach - to pitch the Human Firewall idea to them.

It really does work.

Thanks guys, good to hear it was entertaining...as that was kinda the point of the site.

@Stephen - IIRC you're a BMW guy aren't you... :D

Wait...wat...ew no!

LOL Okay... Just checking :D

Years ago I worked on the big 4 from Japan at a motorcycle salvage/repair shop. They also did the Britts...and pretty much everything else except Harleys. I found back then that I really liked how both Honda and Kawasaki build their machines. Yamaha and Suzuki however both drove me nuts with some of their design choices that frequently left me wondering WTF were they thinking when they cobbled this thing together??

The Britts were always fun to work on/ride because of the delightful - stick-to-the-basics - simplicity of their designs ... This also is/was/remains a big part of my attraction to Harley.

So at least we share some common ground in the Honda/Triumph arena. ;)

But I have to stick with the Sport Touring class of bike, as - even being over 50 - the full on Sport bikes are just too much of a temptation for me to keep a Driver's License with.

So for the past year I've been working on an antique Harley custom/restoration project. So while I was on Christmas vacation I decided to slap together a website for the project that chronicles some of the (hopefully) more interesting parts of the project.

Granted I still haven't done anything with my main site ... But this has been way more fun.

Project Alice

In the garage I get to use a hammer!

Same here. ...I think it shows more drive to make it that way than being led by the hand and told what to learn.

I have a recent Pro edition of Visual Studio but I cannot feature xaml.

I'm not a fan of XAML either. But you can do a forms based project in VS that will give you the drag and drop components option. The last few project I've done were all in C# using a forms project (using the free VS Community Edition), and it's surprisingly easy to work with.

At some point, if I use drag and drop components, the ordering and such gets really messed up- which is the reason I stopped using it other than as a reference to how the form looks.  And when you're dealing with it from a programmatic standpoint, figuring out focus and such becomes a nightmare!

True, but I usually just edit the file that says 'never edit this file' to get the tab order to cooperate. Risky...but I'm used to doing it that way from the old .rc files.

Can you point me (link) at where you got that (untrusted) impression.

a search gives a bunch of results.. here's one:
https://www.lowendta...ertificate-authority

Shit ... Well that's reasonably damning.

So... does anyone offer certs for a longer than 1 year period? I really hate playing with SSL so it would - possibly... - be worth the money to not have to futz with it quite so often.

Don't take my word on the StartSSL untrusted stuff.. The whole ssl cert scene is confusing to me and I'm just operating on the bare scraps of info that i pick up, and i have a very tenuous grasp on the whole process, much like my interactions with the fair sex.

Can you point me (link) at where you got that (untrusted) impression...so I can - try to - make an informed decision to panic?

SSL gives me fits too, I suspect mainly because the entire scheme is intentionally designed to be horribly overcomplicated. And any time you try todo anything with it, it's always long strings of cryptic options that invariably lead to 30+ pages of documentation that vaguely elude to explaining it (but don't). It really is pointlessly agonizing to deal with.

Their prices were wonderful, though I found their process painful and confusing.  And worse, I understand that the certificates from StartSSL will start to be marked as untrusted soon for reasons that are slightly beyond my ken.

Oh crap!
For now I am trying Comodo's InstantSSL and the process seems to be pretty painless and fast thus far. They will generate 90 day ssl certificates for free so its a great way to test things.

Will they do wildcard certs during the 90 day preview? If StartSSL goes untrusted I'm screwed on several fronts.

Thanks for the heads up.

Ctrl+A then Ctrl+B to make all text bold.

Hold Ctrl+Shift and then tap the > key to increase the font size. If you go to far hit the < key to decrease the font size.

What impact this will have on table size - perhaps none - I've not a clue.
