Coding Snacks / Re: The Best Way to handle finding and removiong Duplicate Files
« Last post by tomos on November 16, 2014, 08:47 AM »
Good to get a couple of recommendations for duplicate file finders

@questerflora, any chance you could change the title of the thread to something more topic-related?
That would be helpful :) (I think it needs to be changed in first post to stick)

Living Room / Re: Where do you buy your printer ink?
« Last post by tomos on November 15, 2014, 04:27 AM »
Unfortunately I cant help with supplier - the one I use only ships in the EU & .ch
The ink I can recommend though, if you can find a good supplier over there:
Peach, consistently tests good and I've been very happy with the quality for years now (w. Canon printers).

hi lugosi, oups, you posted in between...

How you've done it is probably fine - normally the info & file are added to the first post, and the file is updated there.

There is also a Nany 'template' that is often used - see e.g.
https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=39172.0

When editing, you can access that template thus:

but I'd say the app itself is the most important part of it all :)

This is is stunning! A scifi short for the ESA sponsored Rosetta Mission. It shows a far future, with a post-human apprentice planet builder and her mentor...

Unlike NASA, the ESA understands the importance of spreading the dream...

Interesting watching that after the fact

I'm not sure what others think, but I would *much* prefer one post per topic.
Find it gets annoying when I dont know where one topic ends and the next begins.

Thanks either way :-)

I notice that the plus symbol "+" disappears when I move from focus from one note to another.
This doesnt bother me much but thought I'd report in case

And a request:
would it be possible to make full filepaths into links in the same manner as weblinks?
e.g.
D:\Downloads\wxyz.exe

General Software Discussion / Re: eBay AddOn via FF Update?
« Last post by tomos on November 12, 2014, 03:53 AM »
I've been avoiding FF auto updates so perhaps everyone else is already aware of it, but I was dismayed when I tried updating to 33.1 via the help menu and got an eBay Button on the Toolbar.  Yuck.  :)

I notice I've a few new buttons placed on the toolbar - but for extensions that I already have - no ebay one added.

So IMAP can download all the mail from the server, and then remove it from the server, but keep it locally? The way POP accounts (used to) work?

IMAP can download all the mail from the server - but it cannot remove mail from the server *and* keep it locally.
Think of it more as a sync: gone there, gone here ...

I had a look at the demo. It reminds me of gmail - it also appears to have the limitations of gmail:

  • I can only look at twenty mails at a time - this may be expandable to 50 or more? (I would still find this a limitation)
  • sorting does not appear to be possible (?)

I tend to use sort and scroll a lot when working with emails (using Thunderbird). Why I never used gmail much in the browser - although I like their new way of sorting the inbox a lot (different tabs for 'Social' 'Promotions' etc.), and often use of late it when first checking new mail.

General Software Discussion / Re: Font managers reviews and opinions
« Last post by tomos on November 06, 2014, 01:51 PM »
There's still some good info in this thread so I'll post here:

Gizmo's Best Free Font Manager is still there, last updated this year, still showing NexusFont on top (but note NexusFont was last updated mid 2012).

I'm prompted to post because MainType has just released version 6.
Now has Pro & Standard versions - tbh I dont fully understand the differences (yet):

Screenshot - 2014-11-06 , 20_44_13.png
http://www.high-logi...type/comparison.html

Cost is $39/79. Upgrade from v.3 upwards is $29/39

As per email, the improvements in v.6 are:

Font Tags
Over the years numerous customers have asked us to provide better support for searching and categorizing their font library. Previous versions of MainType already came with several ways to group and categorize font collections, but the new font tagging functionality adds another dimension to managing your font library. It allows you to provide meaningful tags to your fonts, so you can easily find and use the right fonts for every occasion.

Synchronization
With font folder synchronization it is a breeze to use shared fonts on a network drive, so a team can work with exactly the same group of fonts as part of their font collection. Of course it's also possible to synchronize local font folders.

Other Improvements
Several existing features have been improved. The backup and restore features are accessible through the Tools menu. Numerous new toolbar icons have been added, and several dialogs have been redesigned.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but since Windows 7 there have been shortcut keys to fit a window to the right or left of the screen: Windows Key + Left Arrow and Windows Key + Right Arrow.

There's also an app from MilesAhead here on dc, let's see, here's a review I wrote:
MoveIt - windows management app - Mini-Review

I use it in conjunction with GridMove (and Windows' default Winkey + Arrow keys) in Windows 7.
(I dont know if Moveit works in Windows 8.)

thanks hulkbuster
it's very much a greyzone - and I know if I found the key for myself I'd use it. Was just wary of the sharing part.

If they dont share the serial number, I think that we shouldn't either.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Can't Capture FTL Screenshot When Full Screen is On
« Last post by tomos on November 04, 2014, 05:15 PM »
hi,
this would be worth a try:

Try this:
Go to the options tab labeled "Window Capturing 1" and uncheck the box marked "Try to capture Aero Glass transparency effects".

See if that solves it.
Thank you for your answer. I found that one earlier but checked anyway.
Here are the results:
"Aero Gloss..." unchecked: black interior
Window capturing 2, first check box "Try to detect..." unchecked: black interior
Window capturing 2, below, "Do not try ..." checked: Well, folks, I can't believe it: regular screenshot of the whole window!!!!!!
Double checked with both items checked in window capturing 2: Also okay screenshot.
It looks very much like that option "Do not try to use PrtWindow() API ..." is the key, at least for my current problem.

You think it would help anybody else, maybe?
