The software itself is pretty decent...I just didnt like the installer ignoring my choices.

I had the same experience lately with PDFcreator (sourceforge) ignoring my deselection of the Yahoo toolbar (& it changed default search, the Yahoos). I suppose I should report it in case it isnt intentional....

previously there had been an instance where the installer for Unlocker did something similar. it's hard to determine whether it was intentional or just poor coding.

Im sure we have all been there...its 3 in the morning, your half asleep, , your finishing the final peices of your code, you put a 1 instead of 0, or a true instead of a false, and you spend the next 5 nights wondering why the damn thing wont load, or do something correctly.

Now repeat after me: ImgBurn, ImgBurn, ImgBurn.........

Extract with UniExtract and delete everything except:
ImgBurn.exe
ImgBurnPreview.exe
ReadMe.txt

I generally do, but neither Nero or ImgBurn was installed and I was in a hurry lol

... So I downloaded the first hit on google for "Free DVD Burner". ...

the days of trusting Google's 1st hit on search results are long gone.. ;)

Didnt "trust it" just clicked in a hurry

P.S. Ran into the same thing recently with a charitable group that was out selling raffle tickets. If you wouldn't take a ticket, they wouldn't take your money.

Did you know that in the UK, even if your working for a charity, you can carry those collection tins...but if you rattle them, you can get arrested as its then classed as "begging"

I recently needed a quick tool to burn a DVD - So I downloaded the first hit on google for "Free DVD Burner".  Usually I use Nero, but I didnt have time to find the CD to install it, so I figured this would be a quick option.

On the installer, it asks you to choose between Default (Software + A Ton of Junk) and Custom (Software + Opt-Out of all the junk)

Now obviously, I removed the checkboxes for the "Install X toolbar and X crap"

Installed the software

It works nicely (no qualms with the software itself...just the dodgy install)

Later on my mrs opened Firefox (her prefered browser), logged in to facebook, and noticed a LOT of extra options, like smileys and such, which, at first glance, seemed like an official feature.  The feature wasnt showing on my profile (Loaded in Opera) but it didnt strike me as odd as they dont always roll out new features to all users at once.

After a moment of confusion, I noticed a tool bar at the top, which contained the logo for the new DVD Burner I had just told NOT to install CRAP onto my computer.

It was easy to uninstall, but it shouldnt have been there in the first place.

Now, its hard to say if this is a botched insaller, or they did it on purpose...either way...it needs to be said that I wasnt happy and figured I'd come rant about it here.

http://www.burn4free.com/

Im not against free software developers supporting thier projects by adding crap into thier installs per se - A toolbar here and there never killed anybody, and if it helps keep the money flowing, then good on them...but if I say I dont want it...I DONT WANT IT...it doesnt mean "I say I dont want it now, but install it anyway without telling me so I can check it out later and have to go through a whole process of removing all the little peices of junk you added"

Im gonna scan to see what other adware crap its installed on my system, but up until now...im miffed that it even installed the toolbar...I HATE TOOLBARS...I DONT USE TOOLBARS...I HAVE NEVER USED TOOLBARS.

Another great application that just works!

nabarl over 1 year ago

nabarl over 1 year ago

Its interface looks professional, this means not easy to use. but its really powerful.
The most inportant point is, it is free, and maybe even better than many ones not free!

Ryan Rampersad over 1 year ago

An amazingly great screenshot program that offers many tools and methods to take and edit screenshots. A bit slow sometimes and the interface seems a bit dated but otherwise incredible. Oh, yes, it is free too.

Leech almost 3 years ago

Awesome software to take screenshots professionally.

Heres an idea for you guys:

How about if we had the fundraiser items (Reviews, Coding Snacks etc) all posted into a special area, that only those who have pledged (and submitted one pledge to mouser, or a Fundraiser admin for sumittion into the area) and those who have donated in the month of March; can access.

This area will be something like the area that is currently only available for anybody with the "Supporting Member" title, and will act as sort of a "Pre-Release Room".  Once the fundraiser has finished, one whole month will pass before the posts go public (May 1st).

This will act as an incentive for people to both Donate, AND Pledge!
2934
So rather than 1 new coding snack AND 1 new minireview per day, what about just 1 new (CodingSnack/Software release, or minireview, or essay) per day throughout march?  That seems a little easier to pull off.

One new forum post in Living Room good enough?   8)
2935
Well, yes. Otherwise what does happen? If everything goes ahead anyway, where's the incentive for anyone to a) step up to pledge and b) put up some dough?
As an alternative to adapting the donation credit system, the pledgees could withhold the 'final delivery' of their goodies, until they receive a certain amount of donations, they then turn over to the site, and release the stuff?

I assume this means like some sort of "escrow" service? - Where-as the software and other doco fundraiser stuff was not released until DC hit thier target?

What if we miss the target by $1? what happens then?
2936
Ill do some mini-reviews reviews of the coding snacks released during the month of march.

Not promicing an amount as March is hell month for me (as with Feb, there are countless birthdays and other such hinderences) so my number shall be X.

Hi guys--just registered as a result of a discussion about somebody who, from what I hear, is infamous on this site (as he is elsewhere in cyberspace including my own board): Gri. I'm certainly interested in browsing mods to SMF, since I run two boards using that code. I don't know more than entry-level coding and so code tweaking is the maximum of my talents; can't really author any of it as such.

Pleased to meet y'all!  Gri, I'm already familiar with :D

Does this have anything to do with the horrendous number of "Moved topic" notifications I received today?

On that note, MouserBot really needs to omit anything that has MOVED in the start of the title...spammed the IRC like craaaazy.

This would be perfect for everybody who has released software on DC.  That EXACT layout, in its OWN forum section - Perhaps even catagorised to the softwares type in a different section.

To sum that up, there would be a special forum section that each member who has posted software, here on DC, would create a topic with thier own title.

Then in a sub-section of that area there would be, as example;

Windows
 - Gaming
 - Tray Apps
 - AntiVirus
 - Webcam
 - Etc

Linux
 - blah

MAC
 - blah

Forum moderator would look through each persons list of software and see the category the author has set thier software to, then add it to the required list.

All the above posts should be locked at all times, except for edits by the original author, and comments can go in thier own sections like they already do, instead of clutering up the nice lists :)

"Linux" has this problem -- info is scattered all over. So now two sites seek to delimit some of the news throughout the week:

The Linux User & Developer Daily [LUD] (I like this easy-to-follow design)
http://paper.li/LinuxUserMag

Linux for You Magazine (this one is busier, noisier)
http://paper.li/LinuxUserMag

Neither is by no means complete. Most highlights and news makers.

Umm...both of those links are the same

Actually that's where the "mini" reviews are.
The larger reviews are here: (see attachment in previous post)

Again, due to the theme, its hard to even see that bar at the top, all it takes is for you to scroll down a tiny bit, and that bars gone...the text colour doesnt exactly make it prominent either.

Correct me if i'm wrong lol

How about a badge for donating X amount;

$1-10 gets you Badge (A)
$11-20 Badge (B)
$21-30 Badge (C) and so on.

--------

The Zazzle store sounds like a good idea, especially with thier shipping times being 1/2 that of CafePress (Been waiting 2 week for my NANY Mug, which apprently shipped 15 days ago...)

------------------------

Also, how about creating a special user rank for people who donate certain amounts (Like atm we have "Supporting Member" and such) you could have something to show the level they have donated.

------------------------

I think the visual representation bar is a must...especially if you can link it so its totally live and we can see it going up every moment!

------------------------

Also...I think there should be something like "If We Raise $10000 During the fundraiser, Mouser will strip to his underwear and run through the streets screming 'I LOVE CODY, CODY IS THE BIRD GOD'" (This has to be recorded and uploaded to the website for all to see as proof!)
