Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Stardock's Object Desktop On Sale - 60% Off

I'm interested in the start menu replacement and the app that lets you run modern ui apps as regular apps, so any info on that would help me decide whether this is worth it.

Before you shell out for Stardock's start menu replacement you should research a comparison between it and Classic Start Menu. I use neither, but comparison reviews usually show Classic Start Menu coming out on top in regards to features and it's freeware.

I've already taken a look at that one.  And don't currently have it running.

So I'd guess that you want to be careful who you play with.  I mean, I've played big box games with people that I've regretted it, because you end up getting things all set up, and they get bored with it.  That would be catastrophic with a game like this.

Just a quick update -- finally got to finish Pandemic Legacy (see above).  Took about 20 games, all played with one of my oldest and dearest friends.
My opinion of it remains -- this is the best board game experience I have ever had.  Every game felt like it was full of weighty, important, agonizing decisions.
I cannot say good enough things about this game.  Can't wait for season two.

So, I see that you have to keep track of stuff- permanently.  Is that the case?  Or did you find a way around that?

It has been a real pig to deal with and isn't stable.

Are we talking about just the monitors?  Or the device in general?

Fences and Multiplicity are the only two Stardock offerings I have running.  I found that the others were nice to look at, but not worth keeping continuously running.  I bought them years ago, and am still using the versions that I bought.  Tiles was Ok, but it wasn't ready for primetime when I tried it.  I'm interested in the start menu replacement and the app that lets you run modern ui apps as regular apps, so any info on that would help me decide whether this is worth it.

I'm not interested enough to decode it.

Really? It took only a quick Google to find this binary to text converter. You must like to do things the hard way.

Binary to Ascii Text Converter

You didn't quote the emoticons, that show it as a joke.

Thank you both of you for your replies.

iSilo does not create ebooks for Kindle, which is my goal, and the other software that I tried either didn't succeed at the conversion (Calibre) or only converts one page at a time, not a website.
-HankFriedman (June 28, 2016, 04:25 PM)

There were several on the search for the title of your post, which is why I asked, and knowing why they fall down might point to another solution.

https://dotepub.com/
http://lifehacker.co...s-websites-to-ebooks

- this creates epub, but you can use calibre to convert to .mobi

http://ebookconverte...ed-issue-how-to.html
http://readlists.com/

- its a bit more manual, in that it doesn't crawl the site for you.  But the end results seem ok.

http://ebooks.stacke...l-site-into-an-ebook

- I've used send to kindle before, and it works well.  But I haven't tried this manner.

Of course I searched and searched for those terms but to no avail, which is why I have asked all of you for help.

Apologies.  After what I saw from the google search, I figured I'd ask.  Did you try those entries?  What didn't they do?

I don't know specifically... but have you tried googling your title?  There are several links that look like they might be good starts for investigation unless someone else has a solution offhand.  Just a suggestion.

Yeah, that was bad. So, I take it that no one wants to try improving it?

Improving... what?

It was ugly, and it turned DCers into something I hadn't seen on DC. So that's the reason we're being a bit pedantic about it.  I personally don't want to see that happen here again.

Left click and right click on the windows desktop are two totally different things.  Right click is made to be contextual.  Left click isn't.  The drawing of the box is made to interact with desktop objects at the OS level.  Right click is similar... but links to the menu that comes up.  There is not an easy, non programmatic way AFAIK to capture the left click, as it would override the OS functionality.  It is possible.  Just not easy.

Perhaps someone knows something that I don't know in that regard... I can try to post some code if you're interested in doing it in a programmatic way.  AHK might be able to do it also.

So then why offer the source code for modification?

Setting a license is not the same as offering source code- especially something like GPLv3.  That particular license, for better or worse, is a virus.

You can't choose to set that on someone else's source. It says something specific about what you're trying to do, and you can't decide that for someone else.

It's not originally your code.  It's not originally your project.  You can contact the developer to clarify their position.  But not being able to find that developer, and/or not getting a response does not leave it open for you to decide that.  See Circle Dock for the example of what bad things can happen when you try to do so.  This is a big deal for a lot of people.  And when things are a big deal, making unilateral decisions for others isn't a good thing to do, no matter what you might think.  Their reactions might surprise you.

It's a 40% keyboard.  I've gotten into them for writing, as it focuses me.  I've actually considered making one of them my daily driver... you access the other keys in layers.

So the standard layout (which I tweaked a bit in the firmware)

Then the first function layer

And the second function layer

So, they're still accessible, and I get a keyboard that I can carry, and just like distraction free editors for writing, I consider this a distraction free keyboard for the same.

Looks like a solid piece of work, but where did the numeric keys go :o

I was wondering for a moment there how it was soo small lol

Looks great wraith --
how much soldering was involved?

I have a build log:

http://imgur.com/a/KQCt4

The only problem I had was in building the firmware.  I ended up using an online configurator to get the hex file to flash it.  I installed the toolchain, and mingw, and the programmer... but I was having problems with the references.  Still want to figure that out... but the soldering, it was just two contacts for 40+ switches.  The board already had the other components on it from the factory.

I just built one from parts!

It's  a good-looking item.  Are you about to enter space?

I have attached the benchmarks as a PDF.

More than the benchmarks, the problem is the licensing.  As f0dder said:

You can't just take other people's work and stick an arbitrary license on it.

It's not even whoever sources that page, as shown in the disclaimer: http://hp.vector.co....363/tech/eramv68.htm

Text below:
Views on ERAM modified version of 2ch

68 Mr. at 2ch (?) Set aside also serves as a survival prove views on ERAM for WindowsNT / 2000 / XP / 2003 source difference is published.
Seems to be there was one that is copyright Donokono of problems seen but, (as long as does not contain copyrighted material of others) you can safely source publication of all or a difference with respect to ERAM.
On for people should be readily available execution module, it can be safely be published the source bundled with or separately from binary difference. At your own risk If you are using the binary difference.
It seems people are stay that is published a binary module, but it is a little. I think, but it is not intended to force the deletion.
If possible (68 Mr. version to the body) might also be where I am allowed to ask the source coalesce, but there is no spare capacity (in 2008.7.13 time). Operation check environment of over4GB is no at hand.

Since that first post, I've spent way too much on this new hobby.  I now have my plank, and jd45 besides.

But I just got back into soldering, and what I'm most proud of is the fact that I just built one from parts!

A psychologist finished his work day devastated, and dragged himself into the office building’s elevator to slink down to his car and try to drive home.  In the elevator was another psychologist, an older man, who looked crisp and happy and was whistling instead of looking like he wanted to crawl into a hole and die.   Unable to contain himself, the younger man cried out:  “how do you do it?  How do you listen every day to all these stories of disappointment and death and shattered dreams and failed marriages and cheating and losing and dysfunctional families and lost hope?  How do you listen to that all day and still stay fresh?”

The old guy looked at him, smiled, and said: “who listens?”
