I guess, once it is completed, there will be a separate post/download link or so?

Yes, I'll post and replace the original attachment.

Done.  Thank you for your work on this.  =]

Thanks skwire - I was thinking more of the request area but wth :)

Looks like I'm going to end up with two slightly different programs, one for Explorer and one for filemanagers, (DOpus, possibly TC, etc), since the proper way to do this with one program would be to make it a COM object - which is currently beyond my knowledge.

Is it here yet?

General Software Discussion / Re: Showing CPU core temperature(s) in system tray

I've got Core Temp running on a 24/7 machine.

_2013-08-29_21-51-18.png

The three readings are: Load, Frequency, Temperature

They also have an Android app so you can monitor it from anywhere.

In the works, now got Explorer multi-select working, (which was easier than I thought), so it only runs a single instance now, (no multiple open windows).

Still to do:
1) Get it to work out whether it's run from Explorer or something else, (mostly worked out)
2) Recurse
3) Execute All

This thread probably should be in Coding Snacks, one of the mods like to move it there?

This looks REALLY cool!  Can it do subfolders too?

No, it doesn't recurse.

ATM, I'm just working on getting it to work with multiple selected folders, (which will be if it's called from DOpus only - or possibly other filemanagers, depends if they can pass the same args).

I am thinking of a recurse option, maybe I'll start from scratch.

EDIT: I just realised that I can get the selected items from Windows Explorer - I did it in another script - back to the drawing board.

Just started reading a new book, (fiction), in which a method was stated to avoid having your email read, without having to encrypt it, (they used simple word code in the book).

Both parties use the same email account and only write drafts, ie.

Person A writes a draft and saves it.
Person B reads, deletes, and writes a new one.
Person A reads, deletes, etc, etc.

No email is actually sent between servers.

Interesting idea, don't know how feasible it would be, (barring unauthorised remote access to the email server).

Reminded me of this:

Well Hello!

So you're interested in SHADO. Well I don't blame you, where else can you wear fabulous new synthetic materials, kill aliens and spend the night partying like its the 1970s?

You said that the swinging youth of the 1960s wouldn't be seen dead in the army. There was no way that you would be so square as to cut your hair, replace the tie-die flares with fatigues and cut back on the medallions.

And we listened.

Yes we've created a whole new paramilitary organisation just for the swinging generation. Why not sit back as I introduce SHADO - the coolest bunch of cats outside of the Stones. If you'll excuse me while I change into my beige jumpsuit and matching sideburn accessories... ...now let's hit the road in my SHADOmobile - notice its swooping lines, fins and gull-wing doors that make it a complete pain to park when doing the shopping at Sainsburys'. SHADOmobiles come in all sorts of fabulous colours not found in nature, including metallic brown, surgical appliance pink, ozone-eating green and a shade of yellow that just screams 'fashion'.

Neat!

Welcome to the way-out SHADO headquarters. I have privileged access thanks to my identity chest medallion. A movie studio? So you noticed our cunning disguise! Believe it or not the whole SHADO operation is run out of the basement next to the props cabinet. That room over there? Well that belongs to Commander Straker - a man well accustomed to the peroxide bottle and not too masculine to refuse a little eye shadow.

If you join us I'm sure he'll have you over for a chat, a drink or two and perhaps something else entirely. A medical? Of course there's a medical, SHADO operatives have to be at the peak of physical perfection, you just never know when you'll have to dance 'til dawn.

Let me just make one point clear. SHADO is an equal opportunities employer. We're always looking for top totty to slip into something suitably clinging.

Yes girls, SHADO needs you!

As a new recruit you will start off delivering coffee to our male leads, after you have mastered that task in regulation 9 inch heels you'll be ready to move on to moving pieces of paper from one side of the room to the other all the time looking absolutely fabulous.

At SHADO the sky is quite literally the limit for liberated women! If you master coffee delivery and paper sorting you could be shortlisted for our Moonbase which keeps a look out for intergalactic UFOs intent on spoiling the party.

Don't frown, you won't look nearly as pretty. You're probably thinking that lunar gravity will play havoc with your totally groovy haircut and you'll have to put the miniskirt in the closet. But you're forgetting - this is SHADO, where fashion comes first.

Not only will you be safe from solar flares, laser guns and alien abduction in our super-slinky silver jumpsuits, knee-high boots and metallic purple wigs but you'll be irresistible to those walking adverts for Blue Stratos - the SHADO interceptor pilots. When you're ready to cut a rug the whole ensemble converts to a silver miniskirt in moments! And remember, we don't care if you want to burn your bra - in fact it'll be an advantage.

Still not convinced about Moonbase? Well here are two words to make up your mind.

Inflatable furniture.

Seriously. It's shot like a porn movie, the stories are sometimes dreadful, acting is robotic and even the effects aren't always great. But for a slice of nostalgia back to a period when someone cut the brakecables on good taste and when restraint and decency went through the rails, down the cliffside and exploded at the bottom - UFO is completely unmissable. And Gabrielle Drake is quite stunningly beautiful, why she never became a bigger star is beyond me.

Go on, its Austin Powers versus the Martians.

One of my favourite shows and that review from IMDB was absolutely spot-on  ;D

NOTE: I don't use Excel, I have Softmaker Office which has PlanMaker but I don't see this being that different.

Further to the import into Excel, all fields are Text with the exception of size which is Number:

This is the data output by SMF with a little formatting:

2013-08-28 12_37_00-PlanMaker - [Clipboard_20130828.pmd].png

To get it after import:

For the date:
2013-08-28 12_41_12-Cell.png

For the size:
2013-08-28 12_41_30-Cell.png

Another note, I use a spreadsheet program on average, once every 5 years - so there's probably a lot easier way to do this. eg. Make a worksheet template and import the data so it appears already formatted.
2864
Regretfully, it converts sizes and dates a bit differently, e.g.
2012.11.07-15:47:48 results in 20121107154748

A logical format in a constantly increasing number - makes it really easy to sort data :)

However, since this is going into Excel I would have thought that a simple data format conversion on the column would fix that - something Excel should be more than capable of doing.

At least with SMF you can do all folders across all drives at once.

Just tried it again, epub is OK because it's basically a zip file, txt just gets displayed, and as Wraith has said, docx and rtf are converted to PDF and then sent to you automatically.

I have to cancel the download and choose Direct Download for the original ... that's just retarded.

Oh well, lots easier in GDocs anyway.  ;)
2866
Or yes, there's DOpus  :-[  :-\
2867
SMF can do it:

Select the folder, and set it so it does folders only:
2013-08-27 23_39_42-SMF - Search my Files - v2.0 (2012-Feb-11).png

Click File-Information to collect, select DirGetSize & Count, then click Search
2013-08-27 23_40_16-SMF - Search my Files - v2.0 (2012-Feb-11).png

After it's done, select the result columns you want, first two are compulsary but that's OK atm, then press Show Report:
2013-08-27 23_40_34-Select Report Data Columns - SMF - Search my Files - v2.0 (2012-Feb-11).png

Select everything and right-click to bring up the menu:
2013-08-27 23_43_32-Search Report - SMF - Search my Files - v2.0 (2012-Feb-11).png

Select the info you want and click Export Data:
2013-08-27 23_44_15-SMF - Export to Clipboard.png

It's output to the clipboard as CSV data.
2868
OK, this is interesting, it looks like Windows takes care of long paths by itself, (Win 7 x64), eg.

Here's a path I made that has in excess of 280 characters:

2013-08-27 14_10_45-U__test.png

Here's the argument passed to SetFolDate:

2013-08-27 14_07_24-.png

Windows has used 8.3 naming (xxxxxx~1) to pass the argument, the number at the end (|143) says it's only 143 characters long.

This leads me to suspect the problem lies in the command I use to set the date.  I'll be able to get around that easily enough by changing directory before issuing the command.

Back to the drawing board  :)

BTW, both the docx and rtf downloaded were identified as a pdf when they were downloaded here. ie. Contents are PDF not Word or RTF.

Perry set up the Google Docs thing - I'm just having a play with Google Docs now but it seems straight forward.

Log into Google Drive, click Create->Document, paste in your text then you can click the Share button up the top left right, (your other left I meant to say), to enter in gmail addresses in the Sharing settings screen, selecting Can Comment next to them.

They'll then get a link to the document.

Plus you can export in the most common formats which might save on the uploading to DropBox.

Just a question, how would you like corrections/suggestions/etc made?

I hate to say it, but Google Docs where it can be commented against is probably great for something of this length, (the constant refreshes with resultant loss of focus where a PITA with the length of K's book).

Or just a PM with anything?

Or the whole thing with bits highlighted?

UPDATE (0.3.0.5):
  • Fixed: No longer freezes due to getting latest file created. Statusbar is updated in real time from filesystem notifications. If files are being generated very rapidly, (eg. >50/s), it may start skipping them ... however this is probably faster than you can read individual names.

Archive up there.
2872
I think you've come up against the "path too long" problem, should be able to get around it hopefully - I'll see what I can come up with.

Bit busy today, so don't expect anything from me yet.

That depends, I'm crap at review stuff, (even simple ones), but if you don't mind me limiting myself to typo/grammar/structure/logic I'll give it a go.

Obligatory Contract: I reserve the right to shoot myself in the head if the going gets too tough.  Failing either eyesight, hand coordination, nerve, or caffeine to accomplish such, I offer to bow out gracefully.  All provided electrons will be returned to their rightful owner.

When the installer is used, can I then tell where it should be installed?

No need to tell it where the executable is, just put it in F:\SetFolDate then run it and click install.

Based on the earlier version (I was not yet aware of this new release, as I am reading it just now) it would be:

F:\SetFolDate

and with below registry-patch

//
Code: Text [Select]
  1. REGEDIT4
  2.
  3. [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Adjust Timestamp Newest]
  4. [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Adjust Timestamp Newest\command]
  5. @="\"F:\\SetFolDate\\SetFolDate.exe\" \"%1\" /n"
  6. [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Adjust Timestamp Oldest]
  7. [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Adjust Timestamp Oldest\command]
  8. @="\"F:\\F:\SetFolDate\\SetFolDate.exe\" \"%1\" /o"

//

That would be correct but that reg file is no longer compatible with v0.2.0.0 since the latest version only takes one argument.  (It'll work with the later version but the Newest/Oldest argument will be ignored and it'll open the date option window instead.)

So briefly:

v0.1.0.0 requires the reg file
v0.2.0.0 just run it to install

GData and Bitdefender reported: Gen:Trojan.Heur.AutoIT.1

As mouser said, it's just those programs being lazy.  Rather than judge a program by its actions they've judged it by the language it was written in.

Anyway, source code is included, one of the guys/gals here will yell at me if it does something it shouldn't.  It's only 125 lines and most of that is the two windows, (install and date options).

Minor thing: if one selects multiple folders but decide not to do anything, the small adjust time panels remain open.
One has to click cancel one by one.

It is no problem for me!!
Don't get me wrong.

Maybe in case of multiple folders, there cud be something like ; For All ?

Unfortunately, that's the way Windows works with the context menu - it passes multiple selections one at a time.

eg. If you select folder AAA, BBB, and CCC then use the context menu, the following commands are executed:

SetFolDate.exe "AAA"
SetFolDate.exe "BBB"
SetFolDate.exe "CCC"

Three separate commands sent all at once, so you end up with three separate instances of the program running.

The only way to end them all would be to have a button that killed any occurance of the process.

Unless I can find a way to get all selected folders all at once so you get this:

SetFolDate.exe "AAA" "BBB" "CCC"

You're kind of stuck with how it works at the moment.

The only other option is take make it use command line arguments so it doesn't open a window at all.  But then you need context menus to cover either every combination or the most common ones.

EDIT: I just noticed you use DOpus ... I've got an idea ;D
