There are some Surge Protection extention cables you can buy from PC World and Argos that come with a massive insurance policy to say if they fail (even for direct lightning strikes) theyw ill cover the cost of ANY damage to ANYTHING plugged into that device at the time of surge.  They dont cost all that much, especially when in the UK we seem to be going from mega sunny to crazy ass storm in the matter of minutes (seems to be happening quite a lot these days).

We have _never_ had ground strikes anywhere close to us over the past decade, and I can count around 5 that have hit within a ~30 Mile Radius within the last 12 months.

Im not sure how far north/south you are from us nudone but from what I can gather, the Lake District and soem places down near Devon and Cornwall are the worst affected at the moment.  I'm in East Lancashire (Blackburn).

Even so, if there's a bad thunderstorm, I tend to turn off the computer and pull out the plug connecting the APC to the electricity.  I do this as well if I'm about to go out for a while and there's a prediction of thunderstorms.   Nudone's unfortunate experience makes me feel better about being a worrywart.

Theres the problem...Here in the UK, we don't have any real knowledge when a storm is going to manifest, purely because they hit without any warning at all.

The last storm we had here was a week or so ago, and all the weather report told us was "Slightly Overcast with light chance of precipitation" (What we got was "Black Skies with rain that hurts when it hits you"

After getting SSC to remember my region size ("Preferences>Saving and Loading Files> On Image File Load>Reselect Active Region")

Actually that's something different -- I think what you probably did was perform first a "Grab selection region" capture and then after that perform the "Grab repeat last size+pos" capture, both of which can have custom hotkeys assigned or be triggered from menu.

Also note that the new Screenshot Captor has a menu for reselected the last selected region from within the main interface, which is different but similar and may be useful to people when you have already captured a bunch of larger images (wheras the "Grab repeat last size+pos" option is more useful for repeatedly capturing a small area of the screen).

Yeah your right...sorry lol, I went back to look at the menu and thats what looked right haha

Gotta say though, SC's newer features really make what im doing sooo much easier.

Hey guys,

Recently I found myself in a bit of a dilema.  I was creating animations by modifying static images one layer at a time...now, to do this, I was using the only software I had to hand, which was Photoshop CS3.

Now, if you have ever used Photoshop, you will know that every single time you save an image, it trys to save as .psd, which isn't helpful if you want to create a load of PNG files.  Now...I know changing a file type and selecting if you want the image interlaced or not isn't that hard...but imagine having to do that a minimum of 600 times to create 1 short animated gif file.

Frustration and headache caused me to bang my head on my desk a whole bunch of times until it came to me..."omg, I could use SSC for this"

So, at that moment, I downloaded SSC, installed it and set to work.

My first 2 attempts at using SSC for this where complete failures, even after setting '#' as my quick snapshop key.  That was because I needed SSC to remember the region i had selected in the photoshop window.

After getting SSC to remember my region size ("Preferences>Saving and Loading Files> On Image File Load>Reselect Actie Region"), and setting up my hotkey, and setting it to stay minimized after capture, I thought I was away...so I had a quick look at the settings to try and get SSC to save my files in number order (If you have ever created a LOT of images to peice together as a gif file, you will know that having them numbered 1,2,3,4,5 etc... if much easier than long file names)...DAMN...no default option available in SSC to do such a thing...plenty of other options, but not that one...so I proceeded to bang my head on the desk again.  Then I made contact with mouser via IRC, he informed me that SSC could not do this by default, but there WAS something that it did, that could make this option possible!

To do that, all i needed to do was go to Preferences>File Naming Template and type '%num%' into the Default New File Name area!

So now...instead of spending 30 seconds saving each file and naming them, and making you get RSI a whole lot faster because your having to do more work than required, SSC will do all that for you with ONE button...My button of choice was '#', PURELY because I was moving items within photoshop 1 pixel per time using the Arrow Keys, and # is close enough to them to make life very very easy!

Now I save around 45 minutes, 4 pain relief tablets, and a sore head per project if im doing 750-1000 statics!

No...im not talking about Christmas...but something ultimately better!

Im of course, talking about NANY!

Time is quickly ticking down to the next event, and this year is disapearing very fast.

I was wondering if anybody could give me some ideas on what I should make for this years entry.

My last ones where not very good, but one got a pretty good write-up and review on a spanish software website (No idea why lol).

So...Any ideas? - I want to get started as soon as possible as I will be focusing a hell of a lot on the GUI this year!

Living Room / Stop Forum Spam!
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on June 03, 2011, 11:50 AM »
http://www.stopforumspam.com/

Welcome

We provide lists of spammers that persist in abusing forums and blogs with their scams, ripoffs, exploits and other annoyances*. We provide these lists so that you don't have to endure the never ending job of having to moderate, filter and delete their rubbish.

We provide a "free for use" site where you can check registrations and posts against our database. We list known forum and blog spammers, including IP and email addresses, usernames, how busy they are and, in some cases, evidence of their spam.

There are two ways that you can access this information, either by searching or by using the API provided to automate the searches. The API will allow your site (via a "mod" or plugin) to then make decisions about how you wish to handle the activities of spammers.

Most Recent Submissions

Below are the most recent 200 submissions to our database. Its a small percentage of the 3975817 records that we have.

FAQ

Here you will find a brief overview of what StopForumSpam is about and how we can help you. If you cannot find the information you require, please check out our forums.
What do we do?

We provide free access to our database of known forum and blog spammers. The database provides their email addresses, IP addresses, usernames, spamming frequency, and, in some cases, evidence of their spam.
How can I see this information?

We provide this information throughout the site, including the home page and the daily pages, If you want to find something specific, then you can use the search page. Here you can search by email / IP addresses and usernames. The search page will show you how often someone is listed and over what period of time, plus a lot more. It's a good gauge to determine whether someone is a spammer.

In addition, we provide an API that enables the automated searching of our database. The API allows for forum and blog software (along with countless other systems) to check the database in a way that is easy for them to process.
Im listed on your site but Im not a spammer

Firstly, its not an accusation of anything. A lot of the information that is listed is gathered from "honeypots" setup to trap spammers. Being listed on the site doesnt mean you have been sending spam. The IP address that you have, mightve been inherited from someone that spammed, someone may have just used your email address or even that you have downloaded a virus or trojan. If you use the contact page and be polite, then we can figure out whats going on and get it fixed.
How can I tell if someone is a spammer?

You can search for someone by username, email address or IP. Some telltale signs are ridiculous, gibberish and unreadable usernames, or broken language posts, or links to other sites, either in messages or in user profiles. Some spammers will copy/paste random messages in a thread and post a link there as well. Some will even quote posts, reply with another post and insert a tiny link into the quoted text. Others may not even post, but may just use your site to link to other sites. It is really difficult to offer a 100% "sure-fire" method of identifying all spammers. That's why we provide a search page and a forum in which people discuss their experiences and how to spot spammers.
I run a network. Can you notify me if we get listed?

Sure, send us an email through the contact page, and we can discuss this.
Can I help?

Yes, you can. In fact, this site would not be as popular and accurate as it is if it weren't for the assistance of its members and users.
How can I help?

You can submit any users that have spammed your forum or blog through the Submit a Spammer page. You will need a key in order to do this -- that's how we keep track of what's going on. In order to obtain your own key, please join our forums and check out this page to start.
How much does it cost?

Nothing at all -- that is a promise. However, if you find our services helpful, feel that it saves your sanity, or you would just like to see us stay open, we won't turn you away if you would like to donate toward our costs. If you have a small VPS on offer, we can set up a mirror as well. We do this for the love of it, unpaid, but we have costs to cover, the biggy being the costs of the servers that the website is hosted on. Please consider helping out, as we can't afford to run the site without financial support.
How can you support me?

We will try to support people as much as possible, but we are few and have limited spare time outside our real lives and day jobs, but please feel free to ask about this in the forums. Remember the golden rule: Be nice and you might be surprised at the response you get.
Im going to sue you for listing me!

Firstly, we didn't list you and we aren't liable for any details listed. We are one of the good guys. Secondly, you cant libel an email address, an alias, a domain name or an IP address, they aren't actual beings. Further more, what accusations have been made in the general wider public? Any lawyer that says otherwise is after your money. For more information, see our legal section in the footer of our site.
Who has helped you?

We extend a big thank-you to dZone, who now host the server. We welcome their generous offer, support and technical expertise that they provide.
