And their financial viability isn't really your problem since you only commit for a month at a time.

That depends on what you use it for and how volatile that use case is. I know if AWS went down, I'd lose quite a bit of time (I have the data backed up locally, but still). So it can be a concern. But I'd agree, with responsible use, their viability is there problem.

We should probably move it too. I figured it was spam, but let it go. But the Screenshot captor forum isn't the place for this thread, I think.

I've been looking at getting a Shadow for a while.

not sure I understand the model - seems like you need a computer in order to end with...well...a computer...

Never been a fan of outsourcing, and this seems like its taking it to an extreme...

You're not really outsourcing, you're getting additional power for a purpose. Not for everyone, I suppose, but I already have a couple of EC2 instances that I use for various reasons that I could have used my home computer for, so I guess I'm more primed than others to use it.

You should check the viability of their business plan. I heard Linus form video channel Linus Tech Tips mention that Shadow isn't a financially sound organization. I believe that was in his weekly talking head-piece...in the week that he did a review of similar services. More of a place that over-promises and under-delivers. The videos he creates are usually sponsored and likely Shadow didn't fulfill their contractual financial obligations.

Not sure how recent this is, or even if it's about the same company, but Shadow has been in business for over 6 years at this point; I've been following them for that long, looking to see if it was even something I wanted to get into.

Microsoft unveils Windows 365, a Windows 10 PC in the cloud

Yeah, about that...

But this has been a reality for a while. It's just that microsoft is getting into that space. I've been looking at getting a Shadow for a while.

I was they'd waited until the official release dropped to release this. I get the feeling MS might close these holes :(

I don't think people will realize how much of a burden it is to have to use a headset connected by a wire to your pc.

It hasn't been a burden to me using it with the Playstation. Consoles are already the centerpiece of many an entertainment setup, so it's not that big a deal for most.

My only experience has been my Playstation VR, and I love it- however the motion cap on first person shooter type of games makes my head hurt after a while like the first Doom did back in the day. Of course, just like then, I fight my way through because it's just so fun. One game to look into is Star Wars Squadrons. I love the way they integrated the 3D with the controls. It's a pretty awesome experience.

I've just started to play with Unity myself

Must be something going around- I've just delved in myself.

Why Windows 11 won't run on your new $5,000 Surface PC, but a Mac from 2013 can run the next-gen macOS from zdnet

What that article says (or insinuates) is that Microsoft announced that Windows 10 would be the last version of Windows when they thought there would be higher adoption of UWP and the Microsoft Store, so they could rake in ~30% of all sales taking place on their store and not have to concern themselves with earning money from selling new versions of Windows. Now that they've seen relatively little adoption of their storefront, they've decided to re-theme Windows 10 and force people to pay them for it by requiring them to buy a new computer (and therefore require a new Windows license for the new hardware since Windows 10 licenses are tied to the hardware) to run it.

Thanks... I was in a hurry this morning when I posted it so didn't get a chance to post my usual synopsis.

They both equal 1 password multiple access

Depends on how that password is secured. I secure mine with my phone, so even if my password is leaked, it does no good.

Yeah, I know … The industry loves fawning over the (a little to magical) 2fa crap. But as long as session token reuse remains a cake walk...I just ain't warm-and-fuzzy about trusting it.

I'd rather keep separate things, separate...so the twain can't meet in a dark alley.

Call me old fashion...  :D

I prefer SSO with extremely stupidly secure password and 2FA.

There may be a fix before EOL in 2023,

EOL is 2025.

Oh, I think it will, in the same vein as others that are huge, i.e. Amazon and Google. I think they've learned how to ride the line. Did you see the mention that you can bring your own payment processor to the store and garner 100% of the profits? This isn't the same Microsoft.

And speaking of that, several will have no choice. It seems I'll be able to keep using Windows 10 until next year when I'd planned to upgrade my computer anyway, but even if that wasn't the case it's my livelihood. And even if I don't agree with what Microsoft is doing, I don't agree with everything that any other platform is doing either- even open source. They all have their problems, and you just choose what problems to accept. In all honesty, having already been looking into it, I'm not out much other that the time and effort to do it in upgrading my computers- the biggest loss is my Surface Pro 4, but it's long in the teeth anyway and I'm not using it for anything much other than another display.

I just checked elsewhere, and it seems that EOL for Windows 10 is 2025, so I don't think there will be as much blowback as people predict.

Oh well... my Intel Core i5-4670K isn't on the list. I think they're going to find that a lot of people aren't willing to throw away a computer that isn't struggling with Windows 10. And now we see the reason for Windows 11- they knew there was a lack of backwards compatibility.

As far as Windows 11, it's strange that the reversed course after what they said before, but just a marketing glitch IMO. It's just the version- they could have called it something else- Windows Mojave for instance- it just would have made it harder on the consumer as far as the versions. And as long as you're able to disconnect from the cloud and able to work if your connection goes down, I've found SaaS not that big of a deal personally..

It was really fun to be involved in the feedback loop but my feedback to ayryq must have been very frustrating for him as my comments were like "make it sadder and also happier" or "Can you make the drums sound more like shh shshshts sksksksk".. :)
But somehow it kept getting better.
The only difficult thing for me was each new version had something new i liked and something from the previous one that i missed losing.. Too bad it wasn't a 10 minute song..

Ayryq might agree that the hardest part was getting it all to fit in EXACTLY 22 seconds with a suitably paced start and end...

So... what version won?

So is stuff like this
 just a hoax?

I was referring to the datamining in an article on bleeping computer: https://www.bleeping...d-in-microsoft-docs/

This would also jive to the fact that Microsoft has said before that Windows 10 is the last version of Windows - they're instead moving to a naming of milestones similar to MacOS.
