May be I'm missing something obvious...is it available for testing?  I have not succeeded in locating a link to download the plugin.

Thanks for your continued efforts!

I had some fun pasting RGB triples  ;)

Hope to have something more substantial to add before too long.

Thanks for this week's edition :)

Number 13 is amazing.

Any luck with this issue?
2731
I'm willing to start taking a look.  To be frank though, I'm not clear currently on how all of the points you mention might be carried out.  Perhaps some of the details can be discussed here?

Below is an attempt at following up on some of the points mentioned so far.

  • The per-script icon, description, help, and .dcupdate seem straightforward as you have already described.
  • Do you think script management would be a matter of tracking an enabled/disabled value per script?  Is there an issue with asynchronous processing?  How might enabling/disabling a script be affected by this?
  • As far as UI is concerned, a simple starting point might be a dialog box appearing via Scripter's "Configure Advanced Plugin Options" button.  However, does it seem doable to achieve per-script configuration via the Plugin Manager dialog box (at least eventually)?
  • I'm in the dark about regex pattern matching for each script.  Storing and referencing a regular expression string per-script seems straightforward, but how the resulting regex is used by Scripter to work with FARR is not clear to me.  If someone already has a clear idea of what to do, I'd be happy to hear it :)
  • I didn't understand what you meant by "custom trigger handling" -- does this refer to onProcessTrigger(), onReceiveKey(), and the like?
2732
I'd heard of this approach but I guess it's not likely to work so well if trolls are aware of the existence of the technique -- one can check whether one is in a phantom zone via another account, no?

Nice images, btw :)

What about forums?

I guess with a message-composing client that could interface w/ forums this may already be possible...

Hmm, I guess I should really look into whether there are usable forum-interfacing clients...I know there used to be a mail client that could do this sort of thing, but I haven't used non-web-based mail clients in years :)

(How telling that it would have been nice for me to use this functionality for this particular message...)

The "10-minute delay before posts make it through" idea was interesting to me.

On a side note, I've often wondered whether I couldn't configure accounts I post from to have "scheduled" sending -- so I can compose a message (usually a response) and if I don't do anything about it, have it sent after some default amount of time.  The key thing here being that I don't have to do anything for it to get sent at some point, but I get some time to consider editing my message.

I don't suppose this is already possible...

Find And Run Robot / Re: how to access FARR on VNC server?
« Last post by ewemoa on November 12, 2008, 09:20 PM »
In addition to multiple different hotkeys, I recommend using different skins -- and possibly specifying different locations on the screen for where the FARR window appears.

On a tangential note, I think this sort of FARR-customization is potentially useful for virtual machine set ups too (e.g. VirtualBox, VMWare, etc.).  Hurray for skins and customizations :)

Actually, I appreciate this thread, because if I start using VNC again and have problems, I can remember to come here to check as a starting point.

Thanks for sharing your experience :)

I would expect that what you want to do is even simpler than what OpenWith currently does. I would think you'd just have to implement onProcessTrigger, check the file extension of the file being triggered and select the appropriate application to launch the file (if I understood correctly what you want to do).

Yes, that's pretty much it -- I believe some "harder" parts of this are: building a UI to manage the extensions and coming with an icon :)

I'll zip up the FarrOpenWith source code and upload it for you sometime today.

Thanks!

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: KlipKeeper (A FARR2 Plugin by hamradio)
« Last post by ewemoa on November 12, 2008, 05:45 AM »
For my "backup" FARR I removed all of the plugins I use except KlipKeeper and FARR is already relatively light so at least so far, it seems ok.  Not sharing the ini file at the moment -- perhaps I should consider that and/or sharing other bits -- a casual reflection gives me the feeling that I might run into some difficulties...if I could "include" bits of ini files and such within ini files, may be it'd be more practical.

I'm using TapTap Hotkey Extender to bind my left control key double-tapped to invoke one of the FARRs to appear on the left side of the screen and I have my right control key double-tapping bound to invoke the other FARR so that it appears on the right side of the screen.  Hoping to reduce confusion here -- we'll see how it goes I guess.  Oh yeah, also changed the tray icon -- I think I've finally found a non-aesthetic reason for skins and such.

Ah, neat, I just discovered that I can drag things from one FARR window to another :)

(On a tangential note as far as reducing resource use is concerend, I'm also trying to move off of PSPad and switch to GVim -- seems a lot lighter.  It's a bit of a learning curve, but trying to figure out how to do things actually feels like a game.  Weird form of entertainment?)
2740
No problem :)

(As far I could make out, it's not possible yet to build Chrome/Chromium/Iron with free tools -- hoping that this will not remain the case for too long..but I'm not holding my breath.)

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: KlipKeeper (A FARR2 Plugin by hamradio)

What does everyone else do when they want to use KlipKeeper while interacting w/ dialog boxen that come up via FARR's Options window?  Does it work for you?  I'm finding that I'm not successfully accessing the FARR main window...

As a work-around, I've set up a second FARR installation (tweaked some thing like hotkeys, executable names, location where the FARR main window appears, skin, etc.) -- this seems to be somewhat useful when developing/testing plugins anway.

Why do I need to go to sleep now!

FWIW, loads and works here

Oh, I completely forgot ... thank you so much!

It's almost spooky how lately I'm getting popups right after I have performed some other unrelated clicking...
2745
FarrOpenWith sounds interesting :)

May I see the implementation?

Check out UnChrome linked at http://www.gchromewi...itle=Main_Page#Tools.

The other things on that page are interesting too.  Thanks for posting this!

FWIW, Portable Iron seems to work ok for me so far -- will try to see how well it works out.  Transferring settings from Portable Chrome seemed fairly straight-forward (fingers crossed that nothing broke).

(When is better cookie management coming...)

Living Room / Re: Has your phone replaced your camera?
« Last post by ewemoa on November 10, 2008, 03:25 AM »
Sometimes I use substandard image-capturing ability to take pictures of things to remind me to record transactions -- e.g. when I buy fruit of some sort at the local store sometimes I don't get a receipt (upside being the store-folk don't make me wait in line).  It is especially helpful when it's rather cold and I don't want to get out pen and paper.

I've also made use of this kind of thing for taking pictures of bus and train schedules -- the quality was often good enough so that I could make out numbers and words later.  When visiting countries that use Chinese characters, taking pictures can help in identifying the characters later -- there are a lot of them, and I don't think there's anyone who knows how to read them all.

I've also taken pictures of things I don't know the names of in order to ask other people if they know the names of the things in question.  (On a side note, I've been looking for an on-line service which I can send an image to and get back some kind of naming information for the objects depicted [real-time seems like it'd be awfully hard, but perhaps that's really not necessary most of the time] -- how do you find out more about something when you don't have a name for it?)

So for some uses, camera phones are good enough for me (not to mention being in the category of things I don't really have to consider whether I'm going to carry around) -- but if I'm going to take pictures for someone's birthday or something, the phone doesn't tend to work out.
2748
May be it can be more easily done as a non-FScript plugin...hmm, who can we convince? taichimaster?

Bonus points for reading and working with the file associations maintained by apps like XYplorer :)
2749
What I'm experimenting with is the idea of having file associations which are specific to FARR -- I've been trying out a "portable" set up -- so many of my applications don't establish file associations (writing to the registry is a no-no).  However, it's a pain not being able to double-click on files and have them launch w/ reasonable applications -- but I thought may be I could encourage myself to open files using FARR almost all of the time if I could make a plugin which could manage "pseudo" file associations and take over opening the files by applying those associations appropriately.

Am I making sense?
2750
Well, I thought so too, but AFAICT, onProcessTrigger() doesn't appear to get called for a test plugin of mine -- I placed statements to produce debugging output (as well as invoke the debugger) in onProcessTrigger(), but neither seemed to have any effect.  So I started wondering if it was being called at all...I looked at the GooglePlus plugin as it seems to make use of onProcessTrigger(), but I didn't manage to figure out whether it's doing something that my plugin isn't.

I looked in the FScript source and found something [1] that looked to me like FScript decides that if your plugin hasn't created an item, it doesn't get to handle it -- the quoted code in my previous post was what I came across.  I don't know if I'm interpreting what I'm seeing correctly though :)

[1] The code is from FScript's JrPlugin_MyPlugin.cpp
