when there are 0 results, it will work *exactly* like the standard run box dialog
not a bad idea -- let me just think about if there would be any problems doing this; having it as an option would be a reasonable solution and i can't see any harm in that.

its also a good idea to remember run commands (and other alias launches) and autocomplete them, let me see if i can figure out a way to add that.. would be a nice feature..

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Configuring user tools

when you pass %infile% and %outfile% make sure you put them in double quotes;
i could try setting them as short filenames if you think that will help.

you can type:
run sysdm.cpl

"run .*" is an alias that will run something as if you ran it from run box.

also, you can type:
"cpanel .*" where .* is some keywords, and it will show/filter control panel items to run.

i think this is a great idea.. i wonder if it can be done..  any ahk peeps want to try?

ps it would be nice to find a handwriting font for the quotes.

A novel advantage to caching is everybody sees the same random quote--if someone likes a quote and exclaims as much, a shared view would make sense of that exclamation

I agree with this very much..  Although it may at first seem counterintuitive, i think the cacheing effect is actually quite nice, in that the same quote will be used for all viewers for some period of time (say 1 hour).  i find this more pleasing mentally than everyone seeing a new quote every time.  it makes it more enjoyable to space them out, and as allen says, it makes it nicer that everyone is seeing the same quote at the same time.

I find the way you handled remote quote files particularly fascinating.  While it's a bit more complicated for the end user to set up, it certainly decreases the amount of data that has to be exchanged between the renderer and the remotely hosted quote file.

agreed -- wordzilla is a clever little dinosaur!

do i understand that your running the script off mrcody, and each time a quote needs to be shown, your mycody.com hosted script re-downloads the quote file from users pc, and picks one and displays it.. each time? if so, you have reached new levels of figuring out how to slow down and kill a server, which i know personally you have been studying for the best ways to do it  :D :D :P :P

in all seriousness, if this is what you are doing you have to figure out a better way to do it, through caching, having people run php script locally, etc.  a good compromise might simply be to hash the parameter string and cache images and quote files, so that:
1) it regenerates a new image if the old one is over X minutes old.
2) it redownloads the quotes files if the old one is over Y days old.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Does Image Link Page work for SMF 1.1.2?
« Last post by mouser on May 14, 2007, 10:59 PM »
it absolutely does work on 1.1.2, but i guess you might have to apply the modification manually rather than through package manager (see readme texts inside the download).

For a limited time only DC is running a special promotion!
If you are the user of a formerly free program that has now gone shareware, you are entitled to 50% off our normal donation amount of any amount you want.

To redeem this special offer:
  • Go to our donation page.
  • Close your eyes and imagine how much you would normally donate.
  • Now bring up an imaginary calculator.exe program and divide that number in half.
  • Now type that number into the donate box.
  • Now say in your mind (I am taking advantage of the 50% DonationCoder freeware-to-shareware migration offer).
  • Now procede with the donation.
  • Now get out a pen and paper and write a letter to santa claus or buddah explaining that you took advantage of the special discount offer and asking for a certificate of authentification (without certificate your license is invalid in france and ukraine).

Another note:
Screenshot Captor takes a back seat to no program, but FastStone Capture is quite good, and so is SnagIt -- both worth checking out.  But this is a good lesson about why it can be in your our own interest to support freeware authors who ask for donations.. if not, sometimes the need to pay rent makes authors go from freeware to payware..  :(

Just a note to say that Screenshot Captor (link) continues to be updated and developed, and remains free, due in large part because you guys+gals have been generous enough to donate to support the project.

You've made it possible to keep spending the time time working on it and improving it, and the beta testing reports and feature ideas have helped enormously.

I think if you look at the features in snag it and faststone, i think you'll find ideas borrowed screenshot captor, and i'm committed to continuing to develop screenshot captor to make it one of the best screenshot taking tools out there, free or commercial.

With your support we can keep all the software on this site free/donationware.

this is a great idea.

i know that aignes.com Local Website Archive does something like this, but i think it's only on manual request.  the idea of cacheing old versions of pages automatically as you surf is i think a great idea.  maybe a firefox addon in the making?

A new process, visual-syntactic text formatting (VSTF), transforms block-shaped text into cascading patterns that help readers identify grammatical structure. The new method integrates converging evidence from educational, visual, and cognitive research, and is made feasible through computer-executed algorithms and electronic displays. Among college readers, the VSTF method instantly increased reading comprehension and efficiency of reading online text, while reducing eyestrain. Among high school students, who read with the format over an entire academic year, the VSTF method increased both academic achievement and long-term reading proficiency by more than a full standard deviation over randomized controls.

After I log in my system slows to a crawl. Looking at task manager I see that my computer is experiencing high CPU usage. Looking more closely I see it's something called "svchost" is taking 100% of my CPU time. If I kill the process suddenly other things stop working. Is svchost a virus? How do I fix this svchost problem?

you need to actually turn off auto detection option, in addition to selecting it manually (i really should make it turn off autodetection as soon as user selects one).
