Living Room / Re: Something on computer is fubar
« Last post by cranioscopical on January 09, 2010, 03:54 PM »
Well, after error checking the the two WDs using their own tool they both reported as being OK, (a few hours later).
So, even after a few formats, error checking, etc, etc which all reported OK, the drive has some bad blocks somewhere, possibly the firmware has gone buggy or it just may be a firmware incompatibility with the new motherboard.
Glad to see that you found the source of your problem.
Tools from WD have passed as A-OK a couple of WD's of mine that proceeded to fail (what seemed like just) moments later.

I don't think I'd have had the patience to track down your problem. Out of sheer frustration I'd probably have kicked the entire machine into touch some time back.
On more than one of my boxes, if I have >3 HDs then drive problems seem to occur. Since I run only Windows XP I don't know if that's OS related.

Great Britain is frozen!
I'm laughing-- I left the U.K. >30 years ago and moved to Canada.
(Wait a minute... something's wrong with that plan!)

I triple dog dare you to do the same trick next year!
Hmm... isn't there a thread around here somewhere about returning to the past?

Well it would certainly save you from getting any more rotten turkey sandwich badges. :P
Then I'd have to swap to the hot triple dog!

That would be peachy keen! :)

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Sothink SWF Quicker 4.7 on GAOTD January 6
« Last post by cranioscopical on January 06, 2010, 05:56 PM »
I've used their SWF Decompiler and something else whose name I can't now recall (both also from GAOTD). Both did what I wanted well enough that they stayed on my machine. I'm too inexpert to give any serious critique of either beyond the simple fact that it works and doesn't screw up anything else. I'm using a 32-bit XP. At least one comment on GAOTD implies that there could be problems on a 64-bit system.

how important is the invoice-style printing

FWIW what you have is fine for my purposes, which are quite informal.

« Last post by cranioscopical on January 06, 2010, 01:16 PM »
well, I've finally gone widescreen (& flatscreen lol) - just yesterday so still adjusting
Congratulations on the change!
I know that uneasy feeling when switching from 4:3. One does grow accustomed to the change, however, and the extra real-estate is useful. For me it was important not to cede vertical resolution but to add horizontal resolution  -- I didn't want just a change of format.
When one of a pair of 4:3's failed here, and there was no replacement to be found (model no longer available), I changed to a pair of wide screens. Now I'd be reluctant to go back.

Let us know how you get on

I'd love to hear about it if anyone uses this or plans on using it.
I'm using it in reverse, in order to track various amounts that I owe to someone else.
-cranioscopical (January 06, 2010, 07:27 AM)

Unless I phrased it confusingly, I believe that's the intended use?  Either way, great, glad you're using it!  Make sure to check back soon for some important updates!!
Description
Keep track of the money others owe you!

As you say, either way  :)

Hi Skwire

I'd like to use this to track a few recurring tasks.
My principal measurement unit is hours.
The items I'd like to monitor can run from a couple of hours to a few days.
At the low end of that range, 10, 15, or 37 minutes can be significant.
I can't enter a decimal into the fields for predicted/actual values.
Rather than a quick mental conversion to minutes (requires thinking :o) would you consider allowing decimal entries?

(I hope this hasn't been discussed and rejected elsewhere.)
