Any comments/suggestions?
I think i'd go for the first option, as apparently a "del filexxx" entry in the 'run once' doesn't appear to work.

Errr, I don't have the slightest about what I'm studying ;D
Given your age, you must be in university. Given the new Bologna Treaty to which most universities have accepted, you should be doing a Masters or a Bachellor degree. Typically, the Bachellor is the first 3 years at university and the Masters is the last 2. Some universities don't offer the Bachellor and only offer a 5 year Masters Course.  At least... That's how it works in Portugal :)

Your vote has also put the Masters students ahead of the PhDs!
Go Masters!!

To avoid creating a new image everytime someone sees a page which contains the signature (which i think is what is happening now), you probably should cache the image and only reload it every few minutes... This is what allen does with his imagiine, which powers my signature :)

General Software Discussion / Re: 15 Coolest Firefox Tricks Ever
« Last post by jgpaiva on May 15, 2007, 05:31 AM »
Looks like a nice guide! I do have to ask why anyone would use Space and Shift+Space to page up and page down when there's already dedicated PgUp and PgDn keys... usually even on laptops...
Actually, i know quite a few laptops in which the page up/down keys are accessed through fn+up/down.
Also, even on my laptop, i use the j/k keys to go uo/down, because those are the ones used by Vim and are closer to the middle of the keyboard :)

I sure hope MS will lose.
The problem is the money the FOSS community will spend in the meantime :(

Why are you using the '*.*' after the '/' ?
I'd say that this would work:

regedit /v ProxyOn.reg
xcopy ProxyOff.reg %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\
regedit /s DelProxy.reg

General Software Discussion / Re: .Net Framework
« Last post by jgpaiva on May 13, 2007, 05:45 PM »
Thought about using Firefox but haven't switched to date.
My oldest son keeps encouraging me to switch though.
If you were running ie6, i would also. It was a pretty damn bad browser compared with the alternatives.
IE7 is pretty good, though. It's also more anoying than the alternatives (with security stuff, like wrong certificates and such), thus, i think it's more apropriate for less knowledgeable users.

General Software Discussion / Re: .Net Framework
« Last post by jgpaiva on May 13, 2007, 07:00 AM »
Here's my explanation (i'm sure other people will find better ones :P)
The technical part: .net is a runtime library, that allows programs written in a .net language (C#, visual basic.net, j#, asp, etc..). Thus, if you have a program that is written using that language, you'll need to have .net installed and running.

As for ie7 needing .net running, that's a lie. I already ran it without having .net installed.
But... There might be some add-ons for ie7 that need it.

Well... I recomend using something like chs.
When you're typing the email, just press ctrl-a and ctrl-c and the whole email will be copied to the clipboard and will be kept in chs. It's very fast and very handy ;)

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Winamp interface for touchscreens
« Last post by jgpaiva on May 11, 2007, 02:36 PM »
Well... Some of the stuff is really easy, like the buttons for play/stop/next/prov, and the random.
Others are quite hard to do, like open folder, and playlist.

I wonder if this isn't a task for a winamp skin, or better yet, a media center application.

here's a thread on the winamp forums with a similar request.

Here's part of the code i used in one of my scripts, to solve that problem with '%' ',' '&' and ":

  stringreplace,replaced_,replaced,`%,```%,replaceall
  stringreplace,replaced,replaced_,`,,```,,replaceall
  stringreplace,replaced_,replaced,`&,```&,replaceall
  stringreplace,replaced,replaced_,`",```",replaceall
I hope it helps! ;)

Wouldn't it be better if it would remove these empty folders as well?
Well.. I hadn't thought of that. But there's a utility at Skrommel's page which already does that, and probably does a better job than Rescue Orphans would do. Its name is 'DelEmpty' ;)

Somehow, if I were running Windows 95 and XP Activation came up, I don't think I would believe it.  ;D

It doesn't take a "stupid" person to fall for that kind of stuff. It only takes a distracted person.
People that don't really depend on computers, and only use theirs for work.
Some of these scams are quite complex, and very similar to the real pages.
The first time i looked at www.phishtank.com, i was very impressed with the amount of this kind of material that is out there, and how damn real some of them look.

Let you know tomorrow morning (local time GMT+1) or maybe this evening.
Ok, great :)

If you're running windows XP pro, i think that probably there is such a setting in gpedit.msc.

Just do this: go to start -> run -> gpedit.msc -> User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Control Panel -> Display -> 'Hide Screen Saver Tab'
That way, they won't be able to change the screensaver, though.

Ok.. Let's try this:
I have attached to this post a file with the .txt extension. It's the .ini for gridmove.exe.
Just save it in the same directory as GridMove, and rename it to:
GridMove.exe.ini
And let's see if it works.
(notice that you need to have the "show extensions of known filetypes" in explorer)

I can't understand. All the files you mentioned are there in the Zip i attached.
Fo you mean that after you decompress the .zip file to a folder, those files aren't there?

What do you mean by "disable exe scripts for username"?

Would it be that somehow your computer doesn't allow you to have .ini files?
Just try to create one. Create a .txt file, and then change it's extension to .ini
(I've never seen such things, but how well..)

Well... There's a good chance it's something related to gridmove, since i imagine you've never had such a problem, and it's not the first time someone complains about something like this.
2647
Didn't you choose the 'upgrade' option when you installed the new version?
I always do that, and never had a problem with the wand. (although i don't have a master password on my wand)
When i recently formated my computer, i kept all the configs, then overwrote the /documents and settings/user/application data/opera/ folder on the new instalation, and everything was working again as in the previous instalation.

 ;D ;D ;D

Glad to see you happy like that, Ampa ;)

Well... Then let's try this:
I've attached to this post my whole directory of GridMove, compressed.
Just decompress it somewhere and run GridMove.exe or GridMoveP1.ahk, if you have autohotkey installed.
If it is a problem while creating the .ini file, it'll work that way, because the .ini file is already created ;)

(an added bonus is that you'll get the most recent version of GridMove, and a whole bunch of grids and plugins i made for myself and others :P)

Also disabled security protection
Are you using Windows Vista?
I've never tested GridMove under Vista, as my laptop doesn't have enough memory to run the OS.
