Heh, heh... I didn't mention Bono, did I? But now that you have brought him up... I don't like his sanctimonious stance, but at least as far as what I can see of what he stands for, he is trying to use his fame and influence for some good!

Love the family gems comment - pretty much mirrors what I was thinking as I wrote about those two clowns  ;D

EDIT: added a few missing words to improve clarity  :o

electronixtar - boycotting the Olympics is as easy as changing the tv channel!

Sorry folks - to clarifiy:

1. My wife is watching the Olympics (though she has no problem watching Tom Cruise or Mel Gibson, either!).

2. The two aforementioned "actors" are on my personal blacklist as part of a "think globally, act locally" approach. I despise what each stands for in their personal lives and won't support them in their continued accumulation of vast wealth and status, which they use to push their idiocy on the rest of us.

Tom Cruise's excoriating of Brooke Shields over Post-Partum Depression and her use of prescribed pharmaceuticals and his evangelizing about Scientology pushed me over the edge with him. I'll still watch a John Travolta movie, yet he, too, is a Scientolisgist. He doesn't speak outside of his area of expertise whereas Tom Cruise, seems to think that the heady combination of hyper-success and weatlh, personal religious (more of a cult) convictions, and an asinine public willing to listen to the drivel that flies from his mouth, makes him an expert on everything. What an asshole. Mel Gibson's anti-semitic ravings have had the same effect on me. I don't like these men as people, why should I contribute to their continued success? They're not doing anything for me!

OK rant over  :-[

Heh, heh - Curt, we can add "free-itis" to the list of complexes shared by many DC'ers! Another that is mentioned here often is "upgrade-itis". This one is particularly bad (for me at least). Why, if I had a dollar for every app that I've upgraded despite there being nothing wrong with the current version... Hang on, I'd STILL be going broke  :o

EDIT: added a missing verb  :-[ Doh!

And do my eyes deceive me? Are you actually praising Vista's eye candy bloat? There was a time you hated bloat.

Can't say my eyes see anything to suggest this in Zaine's post. I took his:

Innovation shouldn't merely be driven by maximum "cosmetic" UI consistency.

as a dig, basically saying that all MS has done is make an attempt to make Windows prettier and to make that "prettiness" more uniform across the OS' various features. The comment doesn't even say whether he likes the UI! Call it more of a backhanded compliment as I'd argue that what Zaine is suggesting is that MS has been resting on its laurels...

I'm boycotting 'em. I've lost interest in the Olympics in general (my God! What happened to the idea of amateur sport?) and then there are the questions around ethics, human rights, etc. in China. Double whammy = double the reason to stay away. The Olympics have joined Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson on my personal blacklist. Of course, my wife is watching them

techidave - did you try WAssociate? There's also Associate This, which might be worth a try.

nice screenshots lanux, what incredible screenshot program did you use to make those?

Heh, heh, that got up my nose as well, TheQwerty  ;D

I'm reading through the Synplicity website now. I have my computers networked, so am not sure if this is going to work for me. I think what I am going to do is just open the PST from one computer in the other and manually move sent items over. Anything else is just going to be overkill... Still kind of bummed about this - can't believe MS hasn't released a Powertoy to let users sync Outlook between computers. Lunacy.
2588
Thanks Carol! Truth be told, I have both Outlook installations set to leave the e-mail on the server permanently (I remove messages from the server manually when my mailboxes begin to reach their limits). The main thing I want to sync is my sent mail and your Google idea sounds like it may be just the ticket. Right, off to investigate...

Cool and crazy! Crazy may be the wrong word, but I've never heard of ANY of the apps mentioned  :o
2590
Thanks cmpm, and welcome to the discussion! FWIW, I was the architect of my own misfortune with EzOutlookSync Portable. I should have paid more attention to the trial's limitations (only backs up and syncs e-mail in the default location and I've moved mine...). Anyway, ALL my received and sent e-mail was moved to the deleted folder. Unfortunately, the program moved the folders as well and there is no way to get them out again and recreating them doesn't work.

All in all, I'm repeating a mantra to myself. It served brave Sir Robin well: "Run away, run away!".

I'll check out Yadis though, thanks for the pointer!

Sorry - late reply. I can't find anything about dtSearch and Smart Folders (I have only a dim idea of what they are, so may be overlooking their support. However, a search of the dtSearch help file turns up exactly nothing...).

OK google "smart folders" and came across this page: http://www.pandia.co...ources/desktop2.html which clarifies that dtSearch does not support this...

2592
Oops! Thanks for pointing that out (and providing the correct link)  :-[ I've corrected the link in my post above... FWIW, I just tried a USB thumbdrive application and completely screwed one of my two OUtlook psts (no one surprised?). Fortunately, I had it backed up... Even so, I'm losing all enthusiasm for this venture.

I'm not the first here to state that such conversations are always volatile, always inconclusive and will one day spoken in the same breath as religion and politics as subjects to avoid in conversation at all costs

I think we're already there... Your overall point is spot on, as well: this is a futile and pointless argument.
2594
Heh, heh - as you say "exactly"! You've clarified my point: I don't dare experiment with these various solutions (ie download and run two or thre trials) without some solid reviews... BTW another candidate on my radar is Systweak's Advanced Email Utilities.
2595
Thanks, yksysks! I've been to that page before. I'm beginning to think that this is an issue without a good/cheap resolution. The most effusively praised app costs 50 pounds sterling, and it's subscription based to boot (albeit I'm sure that the last version you paid for will continue to work)! Anyway, as a category, these solutions are expensive and there's a lot of potential for pst corruption. In the absence of any reliable reviews (or at least in the absence of any that I've been able to turn up), I'm really hesitant to try any of them.

Anyone else have any experience in this area?

EDIT: clarity... and grammar
2596
I've found a number of third party solutions that will synchronize Outlook 2007 e-mail, contacts, notes, calender items, etc. between two computers, but no proper reviews of any of the them - which are expensive! Anybody using a solution that they are happy with? Better yet, anyone have a free way to do this? My main concern is the potential for data corruption...

The two front runners are Easy2Sync for Outlook and SynchPST

Thank you for any comments, advice, or suggestions  :)
2597
Exciting! Thank you Codebyte, I'm downloading it now. Perhaps this will finally push me to learn regular expressions...

Hmm... Lookdisk 4 doesn't support Vista, either (along with SearchGT)  :o

Oh my. . . it took them a year and a half, but they're finally providing the Internet service I've been paying for.  Connecting between 1.4 and 2.0 Mbps. . . all this bandwidth, I don't know what to do with it--I've forgotten how to use a non-mobile-version Internet.

There's always that late-night pornography fetish to indulge...  :P
