I like this idea.. it might be useful for authors who don't have their own full forums, they can point people to dc discussion of their program if they want to.

I'm wary of assigning scores to programs based on user votes -- i think it's too inviting of companies to game the system.

Well we do have some older award image we give out for our big reviews: https://www.donation....com/Reviews/Awards/

But i like the idea of a little cody image that authors can put on their website that would connect to a mini-review on the forum.. It wouldn't be a rating, but it would be a nice link.

We've posted about neat tricks before, but they definitely deserve another mention

Nice looking tool -- they make a commercial version for larger buisnesses as well.

OpenProj is a free, open source project management solution. OpenProj is a complete replacement of Microsoft Project and other commercial project solutions. A free download of OpenProj is available here. OpenProj is ideal for desktop project management and is available on Linux, Unix, Mac or Windows.

I have a fix for vista rounded-skin type capturing (like the screenshots above suggest). i'm just going to test it for a day or two and then upload.  it also fixes that weird capture bug you showed in your last screenshot where the window image looks messed up.

We've got quite a few coders on DC creating small http://autohotkey-based desktop utilities, but we really don't seem to have much activity from the web-based coders.  There are so many fun little ideas that would be nice to see turned into small web-based applications/services..

Any of you web-based coders interested in setting up a kind of space somewhere on dc and trying to create some fun small web services?

PopUp Wisdom / Re: PopUp Wisdom and Email Tag Lines
« Last post by mouser on August 30, 2007, 07:05 PM »
actually spooz, i have a kind of plan for that..
i think i am going to make a plugin for FARR2 that will use the same "books" as popup wisdom, which will basically let you quickly insert a quote into any program (email), with support for searching to find quotes with specific keywords.
25735
yes i agree with this 100%, i need to add ability to right-click on items and then be able to select from various operations.  this is very high on my todo list.
25736
You can attach it to your post, or if you think it's a project you might like to make a web page for i can make some space for you.

I think it would be really nice to see a few people from the dc forum here get together and produce a kind of "kit" of the form i described above, basically just a zipped up directory structure with subfolders for different kinds of information, and a nice little guide (or a bunch of readme's or pdfs in each of the different folders) for what should get put where.

However it's done remember to be respectful of copyright stuff -- if you include something someone else wrote, make sure it's ok to do so, and cite then and their website properly.
25737
Yes please do share it.

DcUpdater / Re: Installed programs not recognized
« Last post by mouser on August 30, 2007, 02:33 AM »
no.  but only with the very latest versions has update support been added to these programs so you need the latest versions in order for them to be recognized.

i'll look into this a bit more, but what should happen is that the first time you run the program it should overwrite that redirect file to point to the real location.  but thanks for the tip katkilla, that may be a clue to some bug causing this.

ProcessTamer / Re: new version install
« Last post by mouser on August 29, 2007, 09:21 PM »
you do not have to uninstall previous version.
you do have to exit it from the tray through before you run the new installer
(after this new version you will not even have to do that on updates).

fair enough.

i think this point is valid:
Every time there was a little incremental update, I had to decide whether or not to download a ridiculously large package that was mostly the same old stuff. And I never wanted the blasted clip art! That at least should be optional and separate. Not everyone has a fast connection and drive space to waste.

now that update support is complete, i could move all the clipart stuff to a separate bonus download.

« Last post by mouser on August 29, 2007, 07:22 PM »
the feature is not bad, but the provided frames and masks are horrible.
i really do want to extend this feature in sc, both in providing higher quality frames and masks (which are just normal files anyone can create), but in adding more kinds of frames and masks.  it's one of the areas that i think would be very useful to improve.
25745
Yep, in fact we've talked in the past on the forum about local intranet/lan type web service that can help co-ordinate family information, contact info, activities.  It's a great subject.
25746
Another fantastic idea.. Love to hear what people come up with here..
I think one thing to realize is that such a "program" or just folder structure, could be useful not just in organizing such material, but in reminding users what information they should make accessible.

In other words, i wonder if what would be best is simply a directory tree with some readme's in it, that a person could download and attempt to fill with info (files, images, etc)., and just tell your loved ones about it's existence.

A torn edge effect
one of the things i really regret with sc is that i implemented quite a powerful masking/frame system but no one has created any nice frames/masks for it.  And the masks+frames i provide just suck.
Screenshot - 8_29_2007 , 7_01_32 PM.png

What i really need is to either:
1) find someone who can make some nice ones for us
2) add a different way of supporting frame/mask effects (i looked into using paintshop pro format frames but never tried to code it)
3) spend a little time myself making some reasonable torn edge type masks just to at least get people started on seeing how nice these can be.
