Living Room / Re: Movies or films you've seen lately

I was still in college when I saw (and got excited) for the first LOTR trailer.  Damn.  It actually bookends my entire career so far.
-superboyac

It seemed to take forever to get a decent version.  When I finally watched the trilogy it was like some burden had been removed(like maybe throwing a ring into Mount Doom?)  Now I feel like I can ignore LOTR stuff for the duration.  :)

The analogous situation was the Atlas Shrugged movie part I.  Except in this case I have no desire to see the remaining installments.  Talk about a lackluster rendition of the story!  It was like someone traversed a checklist of everything that had to be there, with no feeling about any one item in particular.  What a waste.  I watched the entire flick waiting for something to happen.  Nothing did.  :(

I observ i can't find the link.

Perhaps you don't facilitate the transit or visits tk requires.

I'm not sure but App will likely find out what's up with it.  There's another site of the same name, different domain, which is also not loading.  Could be coincidence or maybe they think my site is related, which it isn't.  Time will tell.

One thing though, I can see the downside of putting links in programs.  It makes a lot of work for not much utility when things change.

On the plus side web is really cheap now.  If I need to do my own again it should only cost a few bucks a month.   :Thmbsup:

I say this because I'm sure we've both been in situations where someone was throwing their weight around to get something really stupid (like a 3 character password) put in place.

Um, don't tell me.  They wanted to put "God" like in the movie Hackers?

How about Sony keeping a list of important passwords in a file protected with the word "password" if the reports I saw were correct?

When you think of it that may be bulletproof.  The prompt usually says "Enter password here" and we know nobody every follows directions.  ;)

For reasons not yet known milesaheadsoftware.tk seems to be deactivated.

For the time being, most of my freeware may be downloaded using this Softpedia Page

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Edit:  Also any not on Softpedia may be found in this index:
MilesAhead download index

Edit2:  I think there are still a couple on Softpedia that are not listed anywhere else, like Tray for opening and closing the optical drive tray.  So the Softpedia link is still worth a look.  Plus the files are hosted there.  If given the option use Download from Softpedia Secure Site US or something to that effect.  Softpedia has been very generous afa hosting my files and removing dead external links etc..

for more complex I think I would try CronW

For the actual reminder text it could be done simply by running
EditPad Lite 7

and setting it to show the icon in the task tray.  Just minimize rather than close.

Edit:  I would try Karen's software first.  It is simple to set up.  For CronW you would need Perl installed.  Although it runs as a service and it is probably better for simple launch than the Windows Task Scheduler.  ActivePerl
 is free.  There are hundreds if not thousands of small tasks written in Perl, so it would allow you to do quite a bit once you got past the setup.  ActiePerl installer is pretty straightforward at least the last time I tried it.

Non-Windows Software / Eye Candy

It's a struggle.  But I'm slowly getting there.  Oxygen DSX Theme with a wallpaper I found on the Linux Eye Candy site that I call HiTechChic.png.  It was there with no info posted about it yet.

I would take a look at both RichCopy  and using BITS the Background Intelligent Transfer Service.  I haven't used it programmatically myself.  But according to the page it can be manipulated with PowerShell.

Sometimes the best entertainment was provided by the audience rather than the movie being shown.

I envied the guys who had the vans with the window curtains and other appropriate furnishings.  The closest I got to that was a Toyota with bucket seats.  One pull on the lever and the passenger seat reclined.  That feature was a bit unusual then.  The surprise factor usually got a good laugh.  A great ice breaker.  ;)

^ After that flick wikipedia should have Ewa Aulin's picture for the definition of ingenue.

One thing I got a kick out of, though very simple, was the sight gag where Brando appears to be levitating in the Lotus position. He jumps up and we see the plastic seat extending from the wall.  Great stuff. And Burton was wonderful as the Pompous Poet(tm).  :)

I think I saw it at the drive-in myself.  A good way to get in the proper mental frame of reference without being hassled in those days.  ;)

^ I watched True Blood for a few seasons.  It was funny for a while.  The eye candy that seems almost impossible to find is a good copy of Candy.  It was funny at the time it came out.  Not to mention Ringo Starr had a unique technique for masse shots.  :)

Marlon Brando was thin back then.  :)

I guess that's one big reason people try Linux and give up.   :mad:

Or at least give up on KDE for their primary desktop? ;)

:)  I guess it is quirky.  But at least for now I'm in quest of eye candy.  I've got to get back to the desktop so I can install on the metal.  One day.  :)

Non-Windows Software / Solved: Mint 17.1 KDE rc delete trash icon desktop?
« Last post by MilesAhead on December 24, 2014, 12:58 PM »
OK.  I finally found the answers on the web.  It turns out that hovering the mouse gives a little menu thing with icons.  When I clicked the 'x' to remove the Trash icon, it seemed like it didn't work.  But watching it more closely it was taking off a layer.  Double clicking must have put a couple dozen icons overlapped.  So I hovered and clicked the 'x' a whole bunch of times.

The trick to moving the icon I read on the web, and I can't believe it, is hover the mouse, that stupid tool menu shadow appears, drag the empty space on that menu to move the icon.  I can't believe I wasted 4 hours on this.  I guess that's one big reason people try Linux and give up.   :mad:

Non-Windows Software / Mint 17.1 KDE rc delete trash icon desktop?
« Last post by MilesAhead on December 24, 2014, 09:48 AM »
I seems if one adds a Widget to the desktop by dragging it onto the desktop with the mouse, clicking the 'x' on the overlay square deletes/removes it.  However, it appears that if you add the widget by double clicking, you are stuck with it forever.  I haven't found any solutions on the web.

Has anyone run into this?  I've been banging my head against the wall for several hours just to delete this thing.  What makes it even more sticky, if I add a file to the desktop it goes right to the upper left corner where the trash icon is.  I cannot move or delete either.  All I can do is use the dolphin file manager to put the file in the trash.

A real time waster.  :(

I have Mint 17.1 KDE x64 installed as VM now.  Installation was straightforward.  In fact I shrank the window and sufred using k-meleon while waiting.  I also managed to get the vmware tools installed.

I still don't see anything to match Vista or W7 composition yet.  But it does look nice

I saw instructions on Kubuntu's website to install Kubuntu Plasma 4 and then use apt-get (or something similar) to update to Plasma 5. Is that an option for you?

I added a VM using Mint 17 KDE x64.  It installed OK except for one glitch at the end.  It hung on the reboot.  But I just rebooted it using the VMWare Power control.  The install seems OK.  Now I just have to figure out how to update everything or maybe just wait for Mint 17.1 KDE release.

It adjusted to my Laptop's 1360 x 768 res without a problem.  I like it.  I have to struggle with routine tasks like making shortcuts to programs that show the program's icon.  I spent 2 hours installing Firefox 34 since it had 28.0 on.  (Most of the time spent messing with shortcuts and folder copy crap.)  But all that will come in time.  It seems to be quite stable so far.   :Thmbsup:

I downloaded some themes with Glass in the name but so far I haven't seen any real transparency.  But I think I could use this OS when it gets a stable Plasma and I install it on the metal.  There's no shortage of free programming tools.  That's for sure.  :)

Note that if you would like to launch selected text as url arg to BrowserBunch you don't really need all that EditorGroup stuff.  This should work fine from any active window that allows you to select text.  The hotkey is Control Shift F4.

; Launch BrowserBunch with Selection as arg
^+F4::
  ClipSave := Clipboard
  Clipboard := ""
  Send, ^c
  ClipWait,2
  ; set BrowserBunch path for your system
  Run C:\Utils\BrowserBunch\BrowserBunch.exe %Clipboard%
  Clipboard := ClipSave
return

Good to hear something worked out :)

I had a Mint 17 Mate VM.  I followed directions to install and build Plasma 5.1.  It seemed to do all the steps.  But I can find no way to switch the Window Manager.  The logon screen has no button to choose the WM.  I notice in the settings it has a check box to allow software composition themes.  That's the only hint of anything resembling Aero.  It's very frustrating.

I guess the next attempt would be to download Mint 17 KDE edition and try to update it if it installs OK.

Angelina-J Total Body Workout Machine

Speaking of AJ, the first 45 minutes of the film Foxfire was excellent.  Unfortunately it devolved into cliche after that.  But fortunately it has a topless sequence of AJ before the augmentation.  I thought she looked cuter and sexier before the boob job.  Kawaii as the Japanese say.  But to bang her I'd first need excised from my memory the knowledge that Jon Voight  is her dad.  It would creep me out. Although she could probably convince me otherwise if she made an effort.  ;)

My inclination would be that in a hi tech society unless you had to physically do stuff, like weld structures together or whatever, your workstation would be at home.  The boss would stop by your office to chastise or congratulate you, via VR hologram.  To get your desired dinner you would click on a menu or speak into a microphone.

Autopay for bills etc. can already be set up with your online checking.
A bigger boon than a driverless car is one that vacuumed washed and waxed itself. I usually enjoy driving but rarely enjoy the other chores.  :)

Now we just need a program that does your physical workout for you.  I don't think I'd like the muscle twitching type unless it can also make you unaware of the twitches.

But what I'd really like to see is a smart pool cue where you push a button and it performs a perfect masse shot.
