I have always liked ContextEdit.  It was a free giveaway from PC Magazine a long time ago, but now it's $7.97: http://www.pcmag.com...2/0,2817,3229,00.asp

It requires a bit of knowledge about how context menus are supposed to work, file associations and things like that.  You can do much the same thing in Windows' "Folder Options" under the "Filetypes" tab.

I don't know if it works on Windows 7.  Maybe give it a try?

I know my friend. He is thinking in automation. A script able to collect the rar and zip files and extracto to the same folder.

That's the point.

In his own words translated : Programa que recorra un árbol de carpetas descomprimiendo los "zip" y "rar" que se encuentre y deje los archivos descomprimidos en la misma carpeta.....

Program to scan a folder tree decompressing the zip and rar file that are found and decompressed this files in the same folder where they are found.


Note : jiiiiiiii . He is learning english and perhaps in a time he will post directly. I hope so.

I was going to suggest any file manager that will give you a "flat" view - i.e. in one pane it will show you all files in a folder *and* all it's sub-folders.
Then sort by filetype.
In Directory Opus you can then filter the files - probably in other managers too.

But why dont you simply use some quality search programme? e.g. XYplorer does both - possible that the last free version will do flat view as well but I dont know (I think in XY it's called something else)

I have remember now : Directory Opus.
I remember have a trial.
The program I ask is not for me. Is for a linux lover that only uses folders for organizing and need decompressed. I have many programs in compressed modes and don't need decompress.

Finally windows explorer under or in windows 7-64.  With Filebox eXtender and some other utilities as Ewemoa, Miguel, Miles, and a large list from Donation coder .
Sometimes I use FreeCommander.

Many pdf software is able to search inside a pdf or a group (folder) of PDF
like

but I would like an additional thing. Use collections in virtual folders. I have try to select a folder with shortkeys (direct access..) but pdf-xchange don't go to read the real file in the original place.
adobe reader nevertheless....

How can I create collections for special searches not only in the ways of physical folders as also as virtual folders.

There are a lot more.
My personal opinion is that type of programs will be "devorated" by the operative systems. In fact windows 7 have a quick search option.....

Not sure whether this might be of use:

MS Word 2013 seems to be able to convert PDFs to a Word doc, and then lets you get on and edit it as such...
I haven't used it other than to see if it works. Seems to be pretty good - and fast. Tried it on a PDF with several images in. The Word doc file size seems to be a good deal bigger than its source PDF file size though.

I am using Everything to search my disks under 7
I was using locate32 under xp
and are very goods program

I know some programs able to search inside binary files, but not in a pre-search or configuring a database for more fast and powerful searches.

I would like, if possible, something similar for PDF files. Pre Scanning often to control any search. Like Everything. (background indexing)

Is it possible ?(is posssssibleeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!  )

I use Beyond Compare http://www.scootersoftware.com/, for last few years and am satisfied.
Similar in price, and you can check the 30 days demo, if it works.

I've also been very happy with Beyond Compare.  I didn't suggest it for this thread because I've never used it to compare a word document with one in pdf.
