Official Announcements / Re: I want to try an experiment on the site for March 2012
« Last post by Curt on February 29, 2012, 04:54 PM »
In general I hate adverts, because I cannot trust them, and too often they are perverted.

But here at DonationCoder I really don't think ads have to be a problem.

First of all, in my opinion of course, they must never be mis-taken for anything else than what they are - meaning that people without blockers must not be led to think that this "recommended download" is a part of DonationCoder's text, or similar.

Secondly, they can only be placed where I quite often anyway am missing some part of something: in a column in the right margin.

Lastly, they should be moderated; "free download" means free. Etcetera.

With these three easy to handle rules, I will welcome the income to "our" site.

Project Wonderful sounds okay, even wonderful, but I don't trust it to make money.
Do 'we' have any facts about it?

Even though it was well-liked, well LOVED, in 2005, BRU was extensively updated in the following 3 years, and is now considered bug-free.

first read terms, as you said,
then tell the company that you misunderstood, and
politely ask for 1 machine, 3 years, or
ask for a refund.

Yearly for 3 PCs

Did you #check# if your plan really is
3 years for 1 machine,  and not
3 machines for 1 year?

if it really has fixed your problem, then I am very pleased for you, and happy with my initial post. But I am surprised that you started with a 3-year plan. Wow! I would certainly have gone for the cheapest version - because you were right: It is #too# pricey! But of course, I am cheap ...

Please report back how your repaired machine is doing.

Maybe RecentX: http://www.conceptwo...com/RecentX/Features (page 4 and 5)

------
I used this program occasionally on XP, but it gave me too many answers. Maybe it has improved - I still have a license key for their various programs - but I cannot allow myself to test it on this borrowed laptop.
------

Using this IE9, their site is launching terrible slow.

It is easy to see the value of Linkman, but a little more difficult when it comes to Cacheman. Are any of you using it? Will f0dder call it snakeoil, or is it the real thing?

-we have had such discount. I think it actually was 75% off!!

Edited:
Seems it was 50%, but with a lifetime key.

Steven,

An 'alternate DonationCoder reality' sounds fine to me!

We'll extend the lifetime service deal through the end of July 2009, but to DonationCoders only.  After purchasing a license, send an email to vuesoftsite.com, referencing this thread.  We'll then send you the information required to convert your 1 year service contract into a lifetime service contract, which will allow you to receive free product updates forever, for no additional charge.

rules must be different in different countries; my bank has told me quite clearly that such experience is my fault only and that there is nothing they can do about it, except pay. I gave the credit card informations, and didn't stop my subscription in time: Pay and smile, and maybe learn.

Edited:
I have now checked my VideoBlocks account: I have downloaded files AFTER the seven days were gone. I would say that is enough to prove my "guilt".

I took this offer, but apparently didn't read the small letters. February the 14´th the company charged my account $79, probably because I didn't cancelled my subscription in time? They did so without notifying me in advance, and I have not later received any kind of receipt. I only know about it because I borrowed this laptop in order to check my bank account's balance.

I should explain that this laptop has a kind of NumPad in the keyboard. M=0, J=1, K=2, L=3, U=4, I=5, O=6, 7=7, 8=8, 9=9, and more, all activated via [Fn]

hey dhj. Forgive me for speaking freely without first asking ;-) However, I think you may want to re-think what feature you are requesting. Drag & drop is not the 8'th wonder of the world. It is really good, when it works, but there are so many situations when it doesn't. Mouse-mat dirty or even missing, mouse-button broken, mouse unstable, laptop newbie, etcetera. And many programs don't support Drag & drop. For these reasons I urge you to test the >"simple yet powerful solution : clipcache pro"< ( http://www.xrayz.co.uk/clipcache/ ) mentioned byMerleOne. Your mouse may be quicker when things are going your way, but in so many other situations your clipboard is just so much more stable and trustworthy than your mouse!

Thanks again, Carol. Neatmouse is really... ehh, well, neat! And NEW! Their forum's admin has made merely four posts! I have already made a feature request, of course, asking for the special laptop button "Fn" to be added as a "alt. modifier". The good thing about so brand new programs is that suggestions are still likely to be taken seriously! haha.

I better keep the link here, so I can find it when my own PC has been fixed.

SORRY for my wrong accusations!

I am actually pleased to hear  I was wrong  and Genie still is developed
- otherwise their new cloud service wouldn't give any meaning ;-)

And of course Paragon must have well working installations as well. I original purchased my various Paragon license keys because the company was spoken well of.

What is "NAS" ?  :tellme:
I mean "Network-attached storage (NAS) is file-level computer data storage connected to a computer network providing data access to heterogeneous clients" tells me very little. They might as well say it in Russian or Chinese (which I don't speak).

This laptop has Windows Internet Explorer 9 only. When I click "quote" on tomos' post, IE will say "Loading" for ever, and nothing else will happen. Would  such an error come from our forum or from IE or from the laptop? Never mind; it is just annoying.

Thank you for the empathy, Tom.

------------------------------------
What would be absurd is if, given your track record with Paragon, you would let any of their programs touch your computer ever again.

haha! You are of course right, Innuendo. On the other hand I find it absurd that I had both a hundred dollar- and a fifty dollar- program, that could have saved my computer. But I was angry with Paragon because of the first crash some time ago, so I was in a dilemma: Trust them, or waste that much money? My anger made me trow the money down the drain, in more than one way...

Some of you will know me well enough to realize that I also have several other backup / recovery programs that could have saved my as eh... PC, if I had cared to use them in time.

Well, at least I have back ups of all the important data.
Now I just want those links and program names as well.

I tried it, but on this laptop it works only in parts, not fully as it did 10 years ago.

Hmm... and right out of nowhere I am testing on her computer all the same!  :-[

General Software Discussion / any Numpad mouse / Mousekeys for Vista?
« Last post by Curt on February 27, 2012, 10:20 AM »
I am borrowing a laptop, so I cannot test or risk anything, like I normally would do. However, this weird "mousing" on a laptop is simply not me!, so I need to know if there is any up to date version of Numpad mouse / Mousekeys or similar that certainly will work on a 32-bits Vista Home Premium?

 :tellme:

Numpad mouse / Mousekeys allowed the XP user to operate the cursor with the help of keyboard only,
but both programs are now quite old, and I have not found anything similar on this laptop Vista.

Edited:
I can see it may still be possible:

Open the Use the computer without a mouse or keyboard page by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Ease of Access, clicking Ease of Access Center, and then clicking Use the computer without a mouse or keyboard.

2.
Select the options that you want to use:

Use On-Screen Keyboard. This option sets On-Screen Keyboard to run when you log on to Windows. On-Screen Keyboard displays a visual keyboard with all the standard keys. You can select keys using the mouse or another pointing device, or you can use keys on the standard keyboard.

-Microsoft Vista

However, this feature is burried deep down in the hidden. If she would like to use her computer "now", I would first have to search here and there, to undo these settings. I need a simple program to start or exit.

Reading the quoted text again, I am not even sure I can use my own keyboard for anything other than selecting keys on the on-screen keyboard. It surely is the wrong way to do it, for me. I am of course hoping to navigate the cursor via the laptop's physical keyboard.
 :tellme:

Edit#2: this laptop has no NumPad.
2546
I just came by to say that DragLock is a fine application! :-)
I have used it almost every day, with the Windows' key.

But that was on XP and on Vista, both 32-bits...
I am exited to see how it will do on my coming 64-bits W7.

One more thing: On my USB stick I have just found license keys for Paragon Rescue Kit 11 Professional, and for Paragon Backup & Recovery 10.0 Suite, still valid. The programs were never installed. Ironic, almost absurd.

I tested it back then when it was new, and didn't like it. Also, our Barney and Darwin almost hated it. The Home version of 2.1 was on giveawayoftheday July 21, 2010, and they are still promoting version 2.1 ! I expect it has been abandoned - and "$10" may give the same impression.

haha.

but of course USD is $10
as it should be
if any one really wants this program.
Didn't we all agree to love to hate this program?

Anyway, it has been at version 2.1 for a year and a half by now.
