well we want to have this ready for jan 1 i guess.
lanux are you volunteering  :-*

i don't think it's all that hard, but could take some time.. the more you are already familiar with the threads already (i.e. the more you read the board regularly) the faster you'll be able to choose the best.  multiple people can work on this at the same time btw.

I was thinking yesterday that we should start a new replacement holiday based around our mascot Cody.  Since cody has migrated and is on vacation currently perhaps, it should somehow tie into the idea of cody going away for vacation..

And we need a name and some traditions for it.  Ideas?

Hmm that's strange.. i'm trying to think of what could cause that.. maybe some trouble displaying .ico files could explain it..

what operating system do you use?
if you go to the directory with the core aliases using windows explorer, you will see some .ico files, can you see those images in your windows explorer if you switch to thumbnail mode?

Eraser is very good.

Major enhancements since the last version that make this much more usable, including a full featured Item editor which will help you create and edit your own Item Definition files without having to manually edit xml.

Hope you like it!

But more importantly I hope you guys will help by creating some Item Definition files and posting them.

I'd love to have some to include with the release.. Right now i just included a sample file which is useless.

General Software Discussion / Re: GemX - missing in action
« Last post by mouser on December 22, 2007, 04:58 PM »
It's the new year and maybe it's time for some second chances and for giving people the benefit of the doubt.
I think it's clear that people have had problems with GemX, and they have expressed their unhappiness.
But maybe it's time to cut them some slack and see how they do in the coming year.

As some one who has been a very early cheerleader for Agnitum Outpost, and a registered owner for the last several years (and paying a yearly update each time), I feel an obligation to say I have removed Outpost from all of my machines.

The last update was the straw that broken the camel's back for me -- it slowed down my network traffic and pc *significantly*.

It's clear they are doing some ambitious things with their firewall, and i don't rule out going back some day, but i've had enough of the instabilities and slowdowns.

Up until recently i've been using the free Comodo Firewall, which is *very* powerful, but just today i installed Eset's new Smart Security suite which includes a firewall, and i have to say i'm LOVING it.  It gets the alerts "right" (it allows you to quickly approve/block/customize a rule) in a way that comodo doesn't.

Comodo is a bit complicated, Eset's is a bit over-simplified and lacking options, but then again i'd have to say that Eset may have one of the most promising first firewall releases i've seen.  If they keep tweaking it the way they have their antivirus, this will be THE firewall.  It's already good enough that i'm buying it and using it for now as my firewall of choice.

Living Room / The Canonical LCD Thread at AnandTech.com

Ed Bott says if you are planning on buying an LCD monitor, you need to check out this thread at the AnandTech forum, and i can see why.  Looks like a ton of up-to-date details, information about what to look for, and a nice concise recommendation section for people who don't have 300 hours to analyze charts.  Good stuff.

On the key page it stated that I should email [email protected] if I am sure I "do not wish to donate and support this site".  Do I still hold the right to donate in the future with the same account? (I'm still a student in at the moment)

hehehe, of course :)

I will let you in on the giant secret financial plan behind DonationCoder.com..

Check out this chart: https://www.donation...te/HowMuchChart.html

As you can see, the goal of DonationCoder is to simply wait for one of the users of our software to become a Trillioinaire.. Then they are trapped!! And according to that chart they will feel compelled to make a giant donation to the site which will fund us into the 23rd century!!!

General Software Discussion / 11 Top New Web Apps of 2007 - from lifehack.org
« Last post by mouser on December 21, 2007, 07:43 PM »
Over at lifehack.org, they've posted their 11 favorite *new* web apps of 2007:

What excites me is that these represent only the first, or in some cases the second, step for web-based applications.  Any of these apps will help you be more productive, but imagine them integrated and refined 5 years from now — using Jott to call Sandy to schedule a payment in Mint and placing a todo in Todoist telling you to call in three days to make sure the payment is received. Maybe it won’t be these apps or these companies, but if not, the ones that follow will have the creators of the apps above to thank for blazing the trail.
