General Software Discussion / bladedthoth.com 15 minute software reviews
« Last post by mouser on December 31, 2007, 06:41 PM »
Very nice site with good small mini reviews of software.  Seems like most of the programs are ones the author finds on giveawayoftheday site, but his critiques seem straightforward and he doesn't always recommend the programs.

15-Minute Reviews are quick reviews of applications, games, hardware and other items... As most people know, first impressions can make or break much in the world of success; Whether or not it is a great product or not, if it is irritating in the first 15-minutes of usage, likely it is going to be overall a less-than-stellar experience over the long term.

this is a clue for me i think -- so does this mean that you specifically set this unusual date format on your pc?
if so then it confirms that my program is setting internal dates using user customized OS date format, which is not proper.  if that's the problem it will be easy for me to fix.  awaiting your reply.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Bug?
« Last post by mouser on December 31, 2007, 12:54 PM »
thanks for the bug report, ill fix it, i know exactly what you mean.

as for moving items up down, you can drag and drop, just drag node to the far right hand side of the item to make sure it drops above or below (youll see a visual indicator).

i should add a keyboard shortcut to move it up or down.

as for sorting alphabetically.. not a bad idea, ill put that on my todo list.

it has 2 ways.
if a custom browser is set in options, it launches that directly and passes url as commandline argument.
if not, my memory is it just calls shellexec "open" on the url.

fun :)
I wonder if this might be something fun to interface with FARR.
If someone made a really simple plugin for FARR that was able to shell a commandline command and capture it's output, FARR could use programs like this very easily.

agreed, this button really does not belong here, and if it is, it should come with a GIANT warning instead of one that i read and still assumed it would just clear the file list.

be careful with the lack of remove files from free version, there is a delete files button and when i couldnt find a button for clearing the list i pushed it.. at which point it started DELETING files.. not cool.

fantastic discovery!!!
even if it doesnt work on win64 now out of the box, it's C++ code.. which means we can probably create an x64 version without much trouble.. GREAT GREAT find.

yeah but i do not want to have to use the programs shutdown command, i want this to trigger whenever the system restarts or shutdsdown no matter how.

Too bad if any of them have open (for write) files, though...
you would only use this on programs that are known to be safe to do this for.
(if you wanted you could let it wait a few seconds for it to shutdown nicely and only then send harsh terminate signal).
24566
it's certainly possible to do this.. whether there are other complications with stopping a shutdown to do this i don't know.
24567
there are a lot of shutdown tools that will trigger a shutdown in dif ways, at specific times, etc.

but i'm more interested in a program that kicks in whenever windows is shutdown or restarted the normal way, and then does its work.  programs actually get a signal when shutdown is occuring, so it wouldn't be hard to catch this signal and then kill the programs in the list.

24568
I have a wifi tray tool for my computer which does not shutdown gracefully at windows shutdown..
You know the type, windows display the "waiting for shutdown.. end now" progress bar that goes on forever.
I know this isn't the first time i've had a program like this.

So i'm thinking about a little utility where the user can specify the names of processes that should be KILLED when the shutdown signal is received.

I'll write this if it doesn't already exist and no one else wants to write it, but i thought i'd post it here first and see if anyone else wants to do it (ps 1+ day left before NANY 2008 deadline).

ecaradec,
you might want to make an update file so that farr can check when there are updates and grab them automatically.  if you look at the other plugins youll see how, just create a .dcupdate file.
24570
just noticed this double launch is happening for me too.

ecaradec, is it possible that FARR is opening the url AND your plugin is opening it as well?
if so, you might want to let FARR open it, since FARR can be configured to use a user-specified browser rather than the default.

if you prefer to open the url, you just need to tell FARR that you've handled it and it shouldnt.

Whichever program you choose -- this is a very useful kind of tool to have in your toolchest when you need to queue up a lot of moving+copying.

I just used terracopy (for the first time) to copy multiple big directories.  This was free version, latest beta.

Really nice experience -- I love how it integrates into the shell and QUEUES up copy operations.  This was the main reason i wanted to use it, so i could queue up copies.  The shell integration makes it really easy to use.

Thumbs up from me.

note: supercopier looks good too.. the lack of shell integration makes it a bit more cumbersome to use, but then again the lack of shell integration might be a plus if you only use it once per year and dont want extra stuff in your context menu.
