Living Room / Re: could two numeric keypads work at the same time
« Last post by cranioscopical on May 12, 2010, 04:49 PM »
the question is now what to do with the junk eBay sidewinder x6 keyboard.
You could see what happens if you hook its keypad to the opposite side of the new keyboard. Will both work?

As we all move forward in technology, so to do we all learn and expand....even those that still use XP. They watch, grow, and learn in what is happening today....in this; we are all birds a a feather
So, you think that we're entering a plum age? I'll write that down.

Thanks for the links kfitting!

One of the enjoyable aspects of DonationCoder is the discovery of material, as in this topic, in which one is not particularly interested at first, that develops into worthwhile areas to explore. I don't use Word (except to view material sent to me by others) but it never hurts to learn a bit more about it, since it's so prevalent.

@rjbull

You might want to look at Pimlical (www.pimlicosoftware.com)
I'm using that to sync both an old IIIx and a relatively new Pal Pre to Palm desktop 6.2.2.

it will take me a while to realise what is the best way (for me) to use all of these features. so after that i'll aim to do a write-up.
Thanks, I look forward to it.
I live way out in a rural area and haven't seen a physical example of this anywhere within striking distance.
There's no way I can buy a keyboard without first trying the feel of its keys.
I'll probably be in NY within a few weeks, so I'll look around there if I get the time.

the feel of the keys is nice enough (how the eBay guy managed to ruin them i can't imagine). and they are illuminated - better than they are on the logitech g11 keyboard.

but most of all, it provides a good area for the mouse to move around and there are plenty of programmable keys (at least, 90 of them).

the bonus feature is that the programmable functions can be tied to specific programs, i.e. so a key will perform different actions depending on which program has focus - or you can have global keys.
Interesting. I'd be glad to hear how you get on with it over the next week or so.

it partially has to do with unrelated things that are going on in my life at the moment that have reduced my patience and my threshold for annoyances on the computer.

Well, that might put you at an advantage here, then - being a a little dense being less worse than being very dense...
Thanks for clearing that up!
I'm an avid reader of your posts.
I notice that you like to use paragraph in dense.

as far as Windows 7 is concerned we cannot be birds of a feather. I am still hooked on XP.

:) A lot of us still run XP.
My guess is that the title alludes to the fact that mouser updated a group of his own programs at the same time.

While it is true that Windows users paid the least on average, over half of the $614,230 "donated" has been from Windows users.

I sit corrected, I should have been more explicit.

This is getting some press.

It's reported in the Globe & Mail newspaper in Canada.
Apparently, in three days:
  • over 50,000 responses
  • nearly $US 500,000 received
  • Linux users paid the most
  • Windows users paid the least
  • Mac in the middle

don't know how I survived without a setup like this before!

It makes a lot of things easier. Plus, it's always more fun, while playing a game on one screen, to see and ignore clients' frantic attempts to attract attention on the other .

There's an interesting dichotomy: many users have ever-larger arrays of big screens while others work from screens about the size of a credit card.
2468
having no one even make an attempt at writing some code to see if this can be done has me doubting the value of being a member of DonationCoder.com.
-mbrazil
What a shame you feel that way. People are so very helpful here, and I see that some suggestions have been made for you to try.

Apparently, it's not all that difficult to write some code that would solve my issue
Perhaps the fact that this code hasn't been written, or doesn't work the way you'd like in other software, implies that it's a little more difficult than you suppose.

Do remember that you're asking for someone to volunteer time to your project. It may well happen, but this is not an 'on demand' type of community. Personally, I look on my own membership here as a privilege. I certainly don't feel that my occasional donations give me any particular entitlement.

Even if your specific request isn't resolved, you may very well find plenty else to like about DonationCoder.

My wife likes to point out to me that asking nicely is usually preferable to being grumpy.
I think she has a point.  :)

Meantime, I hope you do find a solution that suits you. If I come across any software that looks as if it might help you, I'll remember to post about it here in the hope that you will see it.
