I bought Jumbo Handlebar Mustaches for stocking stuffers for my 3 kids.  They have this thing about "Glorious mustaches and beards, and have been making me grow mine out.  Its driving me mad.  I also bought an "I Love You" toast stamper and I love You Egg Shaper for my wife's stocking, it will tickle her to no end.  Almost bought the V for Vendetta mask, I have been wanting one of those.  I will chip in to whomever wants a Jumbo Mystery Box, or you guys can Paypal me $50 and I will buy it and write a detailed review of everything in it.  There is also the Jumbo Colossal Mystery Box, but it is $120 + Shipping.  Enough people donate and I will write a review on it, then part it out to the donors on a first come first served basis.

Wow.  You can spend hours at this site and still not see everything.  Weird stuff, unique stuff, comedy stuff, amazing stuff.  Did I mention there is stuff?  No I am not affiliated with the site, no I don't own the shop, and no I am not getting any kind of kickback, I just fell in love with this hilarious and unique shop.  Check it out and see what you think.

Not to mention the fact that Dell uses some non-standard wiring for audio coming form the motherboard so I had to remove the front panel from the Dell, cut the front of my current case, and attach it there.  I would like to just use the existing front panel on a case.  I do want some timing options with memory and would like a few more of even the standard BIOS settings.  There is literally nothing to set in the BIOS of this Inspiron.

Maybe there are hidden? i have heard certain bios have an advanced menu that you can reach if you press certain keys while in the bios. No idea if that's your case i am just throwing it out there.
Usually the key to expose advanced functions is a combination of Shift+F1, but I have tried every combination I found and researched the Dell bios options, can't find anything.
Is this a case of not liking a dumbed-down BIOS, or actually needing additional options? :)
A bit of both actually.  I don't like it because I want more options. ;)
I don't know if it is an option or if you are adventurous enough to try, but have you looked for or considered a 3-party bios?  I frequently find where arbitrary restrictions are in place, that someone has figured out a way around them.  I never looked for a motherboard, but I know 3-party firmware is common among video cards and some sound cards.

From what I have seen this is hit and miss.  I am not exactly rich, so it makes better sense to buy an entire motherboard and transfer my hardware over, to me at least.  I really like my hardware, it is everything I need and rock solid, so I just want to move over.  (Originally my reply was going to be "EEEEK")I have a USB port PCI card, and PCI slot fan, so I don't need a lot of PCI slots, 2 or 3 is sufficient.  Other than that nothing out of the ordinary except an AverMedia USB DVD EZ Maker Gold and an internal card reader.  I have one side fan, one HUGE rear fan, a HUGE turbo fan in the front(sounds like a jet), and a blowhole fan in the top.  I added that one by using a Dremel to to cut the opening and fitting it there.  I was actually able to lower the case temp by 9-13 degrees.

I want to change it since there are not enough options in the Dell BIOS.  It seems they have disabled or dumbed down just about everything.

MMM dual bios chips.  That is a GREAT idea.  I like to keep my BIOS updated and luckily have only bricked one motherboard since 1992.  gexecuter's board looks pretty good, I am worried that my HUGE video card will fit in the slot there with that heat sink so close.  Is there any more information I can give you folks to make sure the board is compatible with my hardware?  Did I mention Windows 7?

Living Room / Motherboard Advice Needed
« Last post by y0himba on December 10, 2009, 08:25 AM »
Hello all.  I am looking for a new motherboard.  Here is the story.

I have(had?) a Dell Inspiron 530.  I removed the guts from it and put everything in a shiny new case.  I have upgraded and modified it by adding a 9800 GTX+, 4 GB DDR2 800, 2 1TB HDDs, 1000w power supply, and 3 fans.
I am still running the stock motherboard that came with it however.
I would like to upgrade that board.

The board needs to support the Intel Q6600 Quad Core, DDR 2 or 3(backwards compatible to 2) 800 and above, SATA, PCIe, Realtek HD (like ALC888 or so) audio on board, On board LAN, decent amount of USB ports, lots of places to plug in fans, 2 or more available PCI slots, 1066 FSB.

I know what I want but am having a hard time searching for it.

Any help is appreciated.

I won a copy of Need for Speed: Shift on Twitter, for the Xbox 360.  problem is, I don't have an Xbox.  I have a PS3.  The contest did not specify which system and I wanted PC.  I emailed a few folks, and they sent me the PC version and let me keep the Xbox version.

Anyone want it?  $25+shipping Paypal.  I am verified and all that and will gladly give my address and so forth and mail it as soon as payment is received. I am not sure about export laws for shipping to other countries so I can't ship anywhere except the US.

An even better idea is to power off the cable modem, router, and PC.  Then:

1.  Power on the Cable Modem and wait 30 seconds or until all the lights are back to normal (Synced up).  (If your cable modem doesn't have a power off, unplug it, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in)
2.  Power on the router and wait until it is also back to normal, about 30 seconds.
3.  Power on the PC.

Reasoning:  The cable modem is trying to assign you a dynamic IP address.  So, we power on the cable modem and allow it to obtain an IP from you provider.  The we power on the router and allow it to set the pipe up between your cable modem and router.  The we start the PC up and let it establish it's pipe.  This way you still have the added security of a separate MAC address.

I purchased none.  I created sub-folders under My Music, Albums, Soundtracks, Singles.  Then lettered folders under each of those A, B, C....then a sub folder with Artist-Album (Yeah Yeah Yeahs-Show Your Bones) and the tracks are in the folders.  I use MP3Tag to tag and get album art, then name each song Artist-Album-Track #-Title.mp3

"D:\Documents\Music\Albums\Y\Yeah Yeah Yeahs-Show Your Bones\Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones - 01 - Gold Lion.mp3"

It makes music easy to browse and find from remote on my PDA or on the PS3, or even on my Netbook.

Here is an idea.  Install Winamp, with Winamp remote. Winamp Remote is just a scaled down version of Orb, without all the other stuff.  You can browse and play music, videos, and pictures, and it also works with my PS3.  I removed Orb and went with it.

Check your connection, sniff some packets when using Mediacoder.  His custom Firefox session loaded adverts a while back and he was almost removed from Sourceforge.  I have no idea why he would use a Firefox server setup to encode media.  Look in the Mediacoder directory and open the files with an editor, and monitor outgoing connections when you use it.

They must not have gone with it, even if it was in fact implemented.  I never saw it and I have used it since 2006.  The only time it connects to anything is when I stream music to my device or when it checks for updates.  I have never seen it upload without me expressly connecting to it and starting to play music or videos.

I have had an incredible experience with Orb, which allows me to stream to my PDA, my laptop, and just about any device with an Internet connection and media player of some sort.  I was even able to stream music/video to my daughter's LG Xenon before we switched phones. You can access almost anything you want on your computer, and stream all video formats, and even access online video services such as Youtube, Google video, and more.  You can access your documents and more. Honestly, I could go on and on, there are so many features.  It even has a file browser.

The screen shots below are from Orb running on my computer, streaming to my PDA.  1 and 2 are from Pocket IE, the mobile interface.  3 and 4 are from Opera running on my PDA, and are the full interface.  There are more interfaces available, including a media center interface.

No need to upload, and it is pretty much just run and forget.

Give it a try, it is absolutely free.
