I still can't get the non-contiguous searching to work. I must be doing something stupid. But what?

i know what it is, you've got the "Check full path for search words even when not using \ characters" option checked.. i'm going to try to make it work with that, please hold for an update to follow.

Big day for FARR releases..

You can now specify that certain search folders should only match against certain file extensions (you can use this along with modifier keywords to help you narrow search to certain folders and file types easily with the +keyword approach).

You can also now specify a prefix that will turn on or off matching against aliases - J-Mac this is for your problem.  Using this you can for example set a prefix of ! and now it will never match against aliases+plugins unless you start by typing ! and when you do that it will ONLY match against aliases+plugins.  Useful if you like to be in control of when it matches against aliases+plugins or not.

I've also attempted to improve dialog autosizing with skins.. i HOPE i haven't broken anything here but i may have -- let me know if FARR is autosizing wrong for you now and was working before.

Living Room / Zip File Bombs
« Last post by mouser on July 27, 2008, 11:27 AM »
This is a cool and clever and nasty idea, especially with antivirus tools trying to automatically unpack zip files to analyze them.. I hope they know to watch out for this.

In 2001 reports about Zip Bombs or Zip of Death attacks made the round on the Internet and I thought it would be nice to write about one shiny harmless example of that technique. On first glance the file 42.zip is a normal compressed file with the size of 42 Kilobytes. Many users who run a virus scanner will probably run into troubles downloading that file to their computer.

It still looks like a normal 42 Kilobyte archive after the download but the surprise begins when the user tries to unpack that file. What they did was basically pack a 4.3 Gigabyte file consisting only of zeros. That packed file was replicated 16 times and packed again, and again, and again, and again. Or, to use their own words:

The file contains 16 zipped files, which again contains 16 zipped files, which again contains 16 zipped files, which again contains 16 zipped, which again contains 16 zipped files, which contain 1 file, with the size of 4.3GB.

You have the option to stop search on exact alias match.. can we get an option to do the same for exact program match?

is it ever the case where an exact program name match isnt the top result? if not, why does it matter?

Following up on kartal's question, it might be nice to be able to choose to sort into A-Z instead of by date.

PS: one thing i like about this is it is smart enough to detect already moved folders so you can run it in same directory over and over and it will just clean up new files

New version uploaded.

This adds a long requested feature, non-contiguous matching.
So searching for "ffox" will match "fire fox".

The scoring favors letters that start words and are in sequence.

This is enabled by default (see option on Search Behaviors tab), and can slow down searching a little bit if enabled; but it is very useful.

Hope you like it!

Can i point out that skrommel made a very cool utility that makes it easy to add such indicators to any screencasting tool.
His utility is called ShowOff:

There's also a new book available on D, which seems very short and isn't getting great reviews, but is cheap:

The interview has a link to some video presentations you can watch which are nice too.

Also relevant to this post are these intervew with Stroustrup on c++ and c++0x:
https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=9559.0 and https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=6418.0

D has a lot of nice things going for it and if you read my comments on the stroustrup threads you'll see i'm not enthusiastic about c++0x.  But i still don't "love" D, so i'm still waiting for another evolution from C++ to capture my heart..

Great.. very helpful.
As Armano says you've got some empty folders in your zip file.. not sure what zip program you are using to create the archive but this screenshot shows contents of zip file:

It would be nice to include a readme with brief instructions and pointing people to the original location of the dll and do.exe files.

great.
somehow the regular expression parsing library stopped working right -- i think i must have compiled with an older version when i moved the files, and it just didn't work right.

next step will be to parse the bookmarks in a separate thread so that there is no delay while the bookmarks are loading and refreshing.

update is now online.  update checker should find it.

well i think the services should be as strange as possible, and as hard to map to monetary value as possible, so i think your $25 insult is a good one.

more examples:

$500 - i will name the first squirrel i see outside of my window in your honor
$10,000 - i will mail you a picture of the squirrel
$50,000 -  i will capture the squirrel and put a name collar on it
$100,000 - i will build a house for the squirrel and put your name on its tiny mailbox
