This issue has plagued me on and off for years. IIRC, there is a registry hack that covers this... I'll have to look it up and get back to you - hang on a tick!

You reminded me of how fond I am of standing in our frontyard and saying to passers-by, "If you lived here, you'd be home by now—but you don't, so ha." I've managed to reduce our property values 20%. You can imagine the tax savings.

I'll have to remember that one, good tip

Thanks, Paul. I just looked into it a bit and everyone seems happy with it in Google-land. There's a thread on DC about it from about a year ago as well...

Tinjaw - have you looked at M$' own plug-in page for IE7? Admittedly it links to a lot of 3rd party stuff, but might be worth a look: http://www.ieaddons....?cid=home&scid=0

I'm quite leery of IE Pro... or have they cleaned up their act? IIRC, they were accused about a year ago of shipping with mal and/or spyware?

ALivingSpirit is right, though. What sort of functions are you looking for, tinjaw?

No apologies necessary, tinjaw  ;D

Check out this recent thread for a discussion of two alternatives (USBDLM is freeware):

Unfortunately, Sleipnir, like Maxthon (which I was going to suggest), is installed via an exe installer. Dunno if the portable (USB) version would work for Tinajw, though?

SFFS is actually pretty foolproof. It DOES take some time to set up, but you can set up a huge number of different profiles and run them automatically, without user intervention required. You have options when setting these sync profiles up to add new files without deleting old ones, etc. So I guess my point is: don't be lazy! Get off your duff and set SFFS up! It's worth it  ;D

What the H-E-Double-hockey sticks is a politico doing with a Yahoo account?! Scratch that. Politicians are people, too. I'm just amazed that someone who has been in public office since 1992 would have a webmail account that was unavailable until the late 90's. By the time it was available, surely she would have had a private ISP supplied e-mail address... I'm probably just naive... Webmail is, I suppose, more private when you're sharing a household computer.

Don't forget, Foxit PDF Reader *used* to allow you to annotate pdfs as well... might be worth a look too!

I'll look into whether this works with Word 2007 as well... my gut tells me that it will on Vista but I'm not sure about on XP. Vista'll have to wait for the morning, though... OK XP doesn't support it using native drivers and the Wacom driver. I do know that Vista recognised the tablet and installed handwriting recognition software when I installed the Bamboo. I recently disabled the handwriting application from autostarting with Vista and I can't find it  :o I suspect that firing this up will allow handwriting in Word 2007 Comments and possibly in PDF Converter Professional 5 as well. I'll check it out in the morning.

I've run the latest WDS under both XP Pro and Vista. I quite like it but haven't used it *that* much because I have a licence for X1 and prefer it because of its superior previewing capabilities. From my limited experience, though, I'd say you're safe giving it a try. FWIW I *hated* the previous version of WDS and vowed never to use it again... Don't know if that qualifies as an endorsement or not, but you can take it at minimum as an indication that the latest version is MUCH better than the previous one (at least on my systems)  ;D

Edvard - I wonder if we can get a bulk discount?

Seriously, though - isn't it amazing that 4 terabytes of storage seems downright pedestrian, and yet 5 years ago it was still a dream...

In the immortal words of The Clash: "Sod Art! Let's dance."

You're right, of course. This system has served me in various incarnations for years - it really became workable when I started using SFFS - and there's no compelling reason for me to switch to anything else.

Hmmm... 5GB - nice and I've already got the Live! ID to sign in and start using it. What's the cost going to be when this goes live (pun intended!)?

Thank you Josh! Thank you Superboyac (for linking to this discussion)! I'd given up on PSTray Factory and Vista (version 2.5 installs fine but does nothing) and will give this a whirl

Nice find, George

Type comments on top of PDF content, paste in images, use a stylus or drawing tablet if you have them.

My emphasis...

The price may not even be that steep if one were to use it a lot...

Thanks for taking the time to reply to that, 40hz  The solution I use now is to open the pst from one computer in the other installation of Outlook and simply "copy to folder" the sent items that I want synced. It's not that cumbersome and doesn't even take that long, but it's the principle of the thing that bothers me  ;)

The italicized phrase above used to have me seeing red when I was in Korea... ESL teachers are apparently a principled lot! That and professional - I was constantly  being tut-tutted for the lack of professionalism in the way in which things were done by the company we worked for. These are the same people in whom a sense of professionalism extended to effing and blinding at the manager if they didn't get the schedule they requested for the month  ;D

Thanks, The_Doomer! I've been looking for one that works in Vista x86 and this should do the trick... except that I am not a big fan of XDeskSoftware's licensing policy... Hmm...

I agree with anders about the congratulations upon receiving notification that there is no update to Mobysaurus (or other programs - DOpus springs to mind) and join everyone else in "congratulating" him on his first post  ;D

Great topic - I'm just wandering into this morass myself...

For now, I'm using a USB backup drive and Super Flexible File Synchronizer (fortunately for me, I'm synching two notebooks), but I'm keen to read about other ways in which this is tackled. As discussed elsewhere, the biggie for me is e-mail, particularly sent messages. Why is it so freaking difficult/risky to sync two pst files?

OK - here goes: Adobe Acrobat Reader 9 DOES support comments, but only when document rights are enabled. Otherwise, the toolbar is hidden. I tried this with the tablet and the pen and no dice. I may not have tried hard enough, mind you...

Interesting sidenote - AAR 9 supports comments on my Vista machine but not on my XP Pro machine?! I suspect it's because I have Nuance's PDF Converter Professional 5 installed under Vista but not under XP...

Speaking of PDF Converter Professional 5, I had no trouble inserting comments BUT I coudn't insert them with the Pen, it was strictly a keyboard only operation...

I'd be interested in any other perspectives on this.

Shouldn't that be a picture of Serena Kozakura's legs (her pins)?

EDIT: managed to write the above with pins and legs reversed  :o
