If there is an old post that still needs a reply, then yes -- but don't take my whining about lonely posts to mean that every year old post needs a reply.

A post is only lonely if it was a question that went unanswered or something that deserves a follow up.

I think these are really good ideas -- it's time someone really thought about next generation forums and your ideas are quite nice.

I'd turn this suggestion into a more general one:
The ability for me to mark a thread as always read.
What we are really talking about here is the ability to have powerful and easy filtering that puts posts/sections that you aren't interested in out of your way.

I actually don't think there is much of a problem with payment companies taking money from tiny donations.

I talked about this in the summary of my article, and i think it is a really important point for me to make clearly:

Much of the current and recent thinking on how to make "micro" donations work has been based on the idea of trying to figure out a way to make it possible to accumulate 5 or 10 cent donations and make that an economically viable mechanism.

I think the experience on DonationCoder has shown that this focus may be misplaced.

The problem is not figuring out a way to collect 5 or 10 cent donations.  I think its unlikely to think twice, care, or want to donate for something whose perceived value if 5 or 10 cents.

The real problem i think is that when someone is worth contributing 5, 10, 25, 50 dollars to support - they do not follow through with the donation, for reasons OTHER than financial reasons.

My conclusion is that it's security concerns and the effort involved that keeps people from supporting sites like DC, rather than a financial resistance.  So I think the best thing that would help sites like ours is to establish a trusted mechanism that would let people donate to a site like ours in a trivially easy way without any effort or concern about their privacy and security.

The coolest things about the bloons tower defense (and #3 in particular) is how fun it is to try out all the different "tower" monkeys and all their different upgrades.  clearly one of the most amusing set of upgrade options seen in any tower defense game  :up:

Where do you advise me to register my own domain?

doesnt seem to matter too much.  godaddy seems to be an ok place to buy domain names (dont know about hosting).
you could also always use the free mail services (gmail, yahoo, hotmail) which many people do.

To gain complete control over my -email, should I consider running my own mail server?

most hosting company packages, even the really cheap $5 a month type ones will give you email addresses based on your domain with nothing for you to set up.

don't really know what company to recommend for small hosting but surely others will.
