If you only want to use Windows native VPN to allow access from remote places, an SSTP based VPN is possibly the way to go for maximum availability since it uses port 443, (HTTPS), which almost all internet access points are going to allow.

Third party: OpenVPN you can set for port 80 or 443 to also bypass overly restrictive internet access.  I'm currently using SoftEther VPN on all my VPSs since it is simple to setup, multi-protocol (PPTP, L2TP, SSTP, OpenVPN, SoftEther), can remote manage the VPNs, provide configs for the clients, even bypass some Captive Portal setups via VPN over DNS/Ping requests.

BTW, what about your router hardware - a lot of them these days usually have some form of VPN server - it would save screwing around with the Windows server.

Ooooo! This looks pretty good. Looking through, the ownCloud software looks like what I'd want to run. I'll need to check it out when I get home.

If you want to try it in Windows without installing anything, see my post here.  (Recommend it's extracted to a fast HDD/SSD rather than a flash drive.)

Shame I don't have any black ones left. Both printers did take the same #45 Black.

AU$13 for a pair of #45s from China, (including postage), isn't going to break the bank.

A store has just advertised new HP MFPs for $18.  I could buy one to use and another dozen for spare cartridges, the whole printer is cheaper than a single compatible cartridge :)

Happy to help you out with this (reducing clutter is clearly one of your new years revolutions)

More like, maximising space available for the acquiring of more worthy "junque".

BTW, don't expect a reply to a PM before Tuesday - I'm going bush.  ;D

In the interest of getting the thread back on Target :D

@Target:

Yours if you want it:

IMG_1850.JPG

Brand new in box, (for the last 2 years), got it cheap as a spare for 'justin' but it's highly unlikely I'd ever go back to a 100Mb switch.

Let me know what the ethernet MAC of the printer is and what IP you'd like it to have and I'll set up the static DHCP as well as WLAN+WPA2.

It'll give you a WiFI AP with a printer hanging off that phones/laptops/PCs/PVR/dogs*/etc should be able to access.

I know you are not in the US but I would consider shipping it to you if you can use it, rather than throwing it in the trash.

Thanks for the offer but mine uses a #78 tri-colour.  :)

It's running fine here; installed in portable mode, did not select SecureDNS, and then ran it, (typing in it now) - Win8.1Pro x86

Just copied the entire folder to WHS2011 (x64) and it ran fine also.

This I have located in the PHP.ini but cannot find a  corresponding in MY.ini and the program looks to me as though it is looking to MySql for these timestamps, not to the php software.

Apache/website would be using PHP to access MySQL for both reading/writing information would it not?

That's from 2011 but since you're using an old version of MySQL it may still be relevant.

Then HP (of necessity) got into home/consumer-grade products...and the results are what we live with today.

Still got a Deskjet 932C that churns out mono prints, (colour cartridges too expensive to replace, otherwise it would be printing in colour), after ~12 years.

Occasionally eats a sheet of paper but apart from that it doesn't seem to want to die ... which is annoying as it's getting a bit harder to find black cartridges now, (thank the stars for China and ebay ;D ).

Import into a spreadsheet with \ as the delimiter, sort on the requisite column, then export as text with \ as the separator.

So goes the theory, (which works here).

You'll probably get a few lines with trailing multiple \ which can be easily removed by loading into an editor, (eg. Notepad2-mod), and doing a RegEx Search/Replace:

Search: ^(.*?)(\\+)$
Replace: \1

If Chrome works for you, by all means be happy with it. It isn't a bad browser at all.

I don't use it because of all the "We're watching you" stuff it comes with, just pointing out anything associated with Google, (Picasa, Google Earth, etc), is going to install that updater service.

Sure you can disable or delete it with 'autoruns' (outstanding systinternals tool), but after Windows reboots you have a second google update entry that is active. Rinse and repeat...

Perhaps try:

Code: Text [Select]
  1. sc stop gupdate
  2. sc stop gupdatem
  3. sc delete gupdate
  4. sc delete gupdatem

Seemed to do the trick here, (was installed by Google Earth plugin).

There's also Comodo Chromium Secure and Dragon, both based on Chrome - and IceDragon based on Firefox.

Dragon and IceDragon don't require third-party packaging for a portable installation, just select the option using the normal installer.  With (Ice)Dragon you also have the option to use Comodo's SecureDNS servers, (either for the application, the whole computer, or not at all).

General Software Discussion / Re: flashplayer fix - is this safe?
« Last post by 4wd on January 18, 2015, 11:07 PM »
Wow, actually, the flashplayer for all my other browsers works okay, but not on this one browser, which is a separate, special use copy of Seamonkey Portable.
I'm really hesitant to uninstall flashplayer for the entire OS when it might just be a gliche in the one browser.

It'd really help if you put this sort of information in your first post.

Does the Flash plugin show up if you go to the about:plugins page in the browser?

If it doesn't, then try reinstalling the browser.

2015-01-19 16_08_41.png

BTW, are we talking about an x86 system or x64?

If reinstalling the browser doesn't work, then try the following:

Search for NPSWF32*.dll on your system - it will either be in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash (x86 OS), or C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash (x64 OS).

Copy the NPSWF32*.dll and FlashPlayerPlugin*.exe to <path to>\SeaMonkeyPortable\Data\plugins.

Restart the browser.

Registry errors are often a leading cause of Flash Player problems. It is highly recommended that you scan your PC using PC Cleaner. It will fix problematic registry entries that can cause Flash Player to malfunction and will prevent new errors from occurring.

Automatically tells me it isn't.

Why don't you just uninstall and then reinstall Flash Player ?

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Convert sequence of images to video (with ffmpeg?)
« Last post by 4wd on January 16, 2015, 04:14 PM »
Also, I'm still not convinced there's a difference between input rate and output fps. It looks like you transposed the numbers (60/1 = 60) but the output still looks as it should with a different image each frame, running at 60 frames per second.

Since you've only just mentioned the input/output you wanted in your previous post, then in your case there is no difference - the number of images to copy as frames equals the number of frames in the frame rate.

Consider though if you'd said you wanted 30 images per second and the output video to be 24 frames per second - 6 frames, (each one being an image), would be dropped.

Or that you'd said that you wanted 16 images per second at 30 frames per second - 15 frames would be duplicated, 2 would be dropped or maybe 13 would be duplicated and 4 wouldn't be (thus only appearing for half the time as the others).

In case you were wondering, I hadn't looked at the videos you imbedded because no Youtube videos show up in DC when viewing the site via HTTPS - and I try to avoid Youtube anyway - so I didn't know what format your videos were ... sorry  :)

Try these, you might run into some problems with such a high input frame rate so check the output.

Use the preset under IMAGES Native Res as this won't do any scaling of the images and might avoid any frame drops, it'll pay to source the images from an SSD, RAM drive, or something similarly as fast.

After all, it is an external appendage - or maybe your referring to the final 'Size Does/Doesn't Matter' test ?

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Convert sequence of images to video (with ffmpeg?)
« Last post by 4wd on January 14, 2015, 06:27 PM »
Thanks! I'll look into this.

Download the preset I attached to this post and extract it somewhere, (it'll create a 10fps video that's 1280x720 and displays each image for 1 second).
Wouldn't that be a 1fps video if it only shows one frame (image) per second?

No, video frame rate and image persistence are two different things.

Some video players, (I'm referring to software not a hardware media player, they're probably even more restricted), can't handle very low video frame rates, (I saw mentioned somewhere that VLC doesn't handle below around 10fps - I know MPC-BE doesn't like low rates).

To get an image to display for x seconds, ffmpeg creates x * fps copies of the image to display, so for the above preset: 1 (second) x 10 (fps) = 10 copies

10 fps means each frame is displayed for 100ms, so each of the 10 copies of the image is displayed for 100ms - appended together gives you each image being displayed in the video for 1 second.

Here's a page regarding ffmpeg, frame rates, and image sequences: Create a video slideshow from images

I've also added the -pix_fmt yuv420p mentioned on that page, (ensures maximum compatibility in final video with players/online sites).

In your original command:

ffmpeg -r [framerate] -i [images] -s [resolution] -vcodec libx264 [videofilename].mp4

Because you haven't specified a frame rate for the output video, the input image frame rate would be used - if this is too low, the video won't display correctly (ie. some images may appear for longer - I was getting the first image being displayed for 5 seconds and the following for 1 second) - if it's too high, the images might just flash up on screen or possibly they'll be dropped altogether from the final video.

BTW, if the folder you drop onto the interface button contains more than one image sequence, in theory it should create a job for each ... but I haven't tested that.

If you let me know what fps/dimensions/codecs you're interested in, I'll try knocking up some presets so you can look at them - specify image persistence in seconds and video output frame rate.

EDIT: I incorrectly made the description on the preset, (shows up under preset), as 1fps - forgot to change it after I'd finished playing around.  I've corrected and re-attached to the above post.

Addendum: I've attached some more presets you can import, (remember to restart program after importing), it should give you an idea of what to do:

Output video presets, (all MPEG4-AVC, MP4 format):
720x400, 2 images/s, 24fps  (2 images every second)
720x400, 5 images/s, 30fps  (5 images every second)
1280x720, 1image/s, 10fps  (1 image every second)
1280x720, 1image/s, 24fps  (1 image every second)
1280x720, 1image/5s, 24fps  (1 image every 5 seconds)
1280x720, 2images/s, 24fps  (2 images every second)
1980x1080, 2images/s, 24fps  (2 images every second)
