General Software Discussion / Re: Notetaking software
« Last post by wraith808 on November 30, 2017, 07:57 PM »
Can you unpack that last bit?  I'm assuming that it is shorthand for software (OneNote = One?)  But I didn't think that OneNote was cross-platform, unless you mean a limited version of cross platform.  And Simple- I equated it to Simplenote, but that may be wrong.

Totally agreed... thats why I called them designers.  The only one that does things similar to what you're doing is the last one, and that's only for a limited card set (D&D Feats).  Just thought you might be able to mine them for some features and perhaps reference them for tools to create the actual images.

Nicely done!  I've enclosed links to a couple of designers I remember offhand so perhaps you'll see a feature that you want to include.

And one that does the same thing as yours- but only for D&D feat cards.

Congratulations!! Are you going to share your novel with us?  At least tell us about it and about your experience with NaNoWriMo.

It's terrible, and I know it's terrible.  Towards the end, because of my job and work on a contract, I was just throwing words at the page.  In the beginning, when I was fresh, and everything seemed like it was coming together, I wrote a lot.  Then there was the week or so when I didn't write anything.  And even now, I'm working under an impossible deadline at work, while working on something for a client.  I'd say I'm going back to edit and revise... but I never do.  But there is an imperative that I don't have the rest of the year, and it helps me to carry that over for other writing.  I look at it as a way to push myself, and energize myself for other works.

I finished my NaNoWriMo efforts even though I have a lot going on... quite the accomplishment if I do say so.

I have a couple of winner coupons for useful software that I already have:

Scrivener and Scapple 50% off (The code won't be there until 12/1, but if you're interested, feel free to PM me now and I'll send it to when available)
Aeon Timeline 2 - The code is available now for 30% off.

PM me, and first come gets it... you have to be an active member of the forum to be eligible.

I didn't see much to set up.  After your review of it, I tried it out, and figured it would definitely help me as I've started getting more paying writing gigs.  I tried it out on a sample of text that I'd written before, and after looking through the results, purchased the lifetime license, so thanks for that!  I do agree on the persnickety statement, but it does seem to remove a lot of the editing that I'd have to have done, so perhaps would make me more marketable.

Thanks again!

Started Googling and reading/comparing. Grammarly, Stylewriter etc then came across references to ProWriterAid. Surprisingly positive in the main. And then I came across a blog/page which gave a link to a 50% discount on the lifetime version. So I bought it. Had never used it etc. I'm sure it will be worth it. Never thought about using programs of this ilk (my spelling, grammar etc is naturally good and extra steps are time lost), but I have spent a surprising proportion of my working life reading, editing and correcting other people's work as well as writing myself, so I can't see how it won't be useful.

I heard about that before, but have been having a hard time paying the price.  Let me know how it is.

wrt to the original question, I bought both. I've had TLB for many years, but do like the graphical bells and whistles of the docks. Used to use Circle Dock. Not sure which I will use or whether I will continue with both, but I've given the Start button a good go on my Surface but it doesn't cut it in laptop multi monitor mode.

TLB is still my mainstay, but I've been wanting to try something else (get back into Winstep for instance), but just haven't had the time for configuration.

Wonder (RT 84% as of posting)

I could tell from the commercials that I was likely to enjoy this movie, and after going, that's an understatement!  Owen Wilson was very understated in his role, Julia Roberts was excellent as always, I was pleasantly surprised to see Mandy Patinkin in it.

But the star of the movie that really solidifies it is Jacob Tremblay.  I'm sure it was harder to emote under all of the makeup he was under, but you couldn't tell.  His eyes convey a lot, and just little motions and details- it wouldn't have been as solid without his performance.  A child actor that I'll be keeping my eyes on, and hope that he makes it out of childhood in Hollywood unscathed to realize his potential.

A real feel-good movie without being overbearing.  Definitely recommended.

should be able to do this (import a txt file, and parse to a table.query) directly using access
Well, I haven't installed MS Access on any computer near me for many years, so that wasn't a viable option. I was almost going to ask if it wasn't supposed to read MS SQL instead of MS Access...
And being a Java/C# style programmer, VBA feels really awkward to me (though I've done small VB/VBA projects in the more distant past).

I think he meant the OP could do it, just as until you posted, I was going to do it in Excel (didn't think about directly doing it in Access)

So taking your data example, what would the output ideally be?

And you say you have Word and Access- do you have Excel?

I didn't get that Custom Desktop Logo was an application.

One of these programs might work.

https://www.groovypo...grams-always-on-top/
https://www.howtogee...s-on-top-on-windows/

Those will only work if you're running in full screen maximized however.

Perhaps someone can give you a better solution since it includes source.

Please note, that is $80 per year.

It's actually worse, right? It's $80 for the first year, and back up to more expensive every year after that.

It doesn't say anything about that anywhere in the checkout (admittedly I didn't purchase), so I'd guess it's a special rate of $80/year.

I don't use lastpass pocket, even though I'm premium.  I'm having no problem accessing lastpass currently.  I think that they meant if you had logged into lastpass while you had an internet connection, it has cached versions on your machine.

Check out the MARK TOPIC button, bottom right of each topic..., close enough?

Mark topic is for you.  He wants to express appreciation to the poster.

EDIT: Ah... I see you meant the stars.  It would be nice if there was some way to mark it on the individual post in a simple way, however, as that rating is for the whole topic, not the individual post.

It's easy to go back or change it in lots of ways -- it's just css.
I'm just thinking we need SOME improvement over the old style.  I kind of like this one but I'm still cogitating on the suggestions.
What would be nice is if someone made some alternative css styles for it and shared. Then we could see which we liked best.

So perhaps remove the quote, make the right and left bars something that goes more with the style of the site, and make the font a bit lighter?  Which CSS file is it?  Or can you just post the current CSS?

I see this in https://www.donation.../css/index.css?fin20

Code: CSS [Select]
  1. /* A quote, perhaps from another post. */
  2. .REN_DISABLE_blockquote.bbc_standard_quote, REN_DISABLE_blockquote.bbc_alternate_quote
  3. {
  4.         font-size: x-small;
  5.         color: #000;
  6.         line-height: 1.4em;
  7.         background: url(../images/theme/quote.png) 0.1em 0.1em no-repeat;
  8.         border-top: 2px solid #99A;
  9.         border-bottom: 2px solid #99A;
  10.         padding: 1.1em 1.4em;
  11.         margin: 0.1em 0 0.3em 0;
  12.         overflow: auto;
  13. }

Is that the CSS that would have to be played with?

I think skwire's view (previous format was better) has considerable merit.
-cranioscopical (November 23, 2017, 09:08 AM)

Perhaps there's no way to easily go back to the previous format?  I would think that if he has not already considered that rather than making changes to the CSS, then perhaps that is a reason that it has less than considerable merit?

Hi Guys.

Not sure I can make my request any clearer.

I would like to be able to left click on a desktop shortcut with the end result being that the create shortcut wizard opens.

Sorry if I sound facetious - that is not my intention.
All suggestions are really welcomed and appreciated.

Altikaka

Well, if you have to use the Create Shortcut Wizard, the answer appears to be no, unless you use something like AHK to simulate that process.  From what I've been able to see, they have not exposed that wizard to be invoked programmatically.  After finding that out, I asked my question above- but if nothing else will suffice, I think you're going to be stuck with that.

Hi Guys.

Does anyone know any way of creating a desktop shortcut (win10) to the shortcut wizard, which is normally accessed by a right click > new > shortcut  route ?
Thanks
altikaka

What is your final purpose?  Do you want to create a shortcut or do you want to bring up the shortcut wizard?
