I discovered Wilhelm Kempff this week.
I also discovered Beethoven's Tempest Sonata [..]
Very nice. I've been listening to this lately; at the time, poor Isaac Stern looks like his health is about ready to fail at any moment, but his playing proves him ever the Master. Isaac Stern & Jean-Bernard Pommier - César Franck Violin Sonata in A major - 1st & 2nd mvt
César Franck Violin Sonata in A major - 1st mvt
César Franck Violin Sonata in A major - 2nd mvt
thanks, looking forward to those
Took  me a while to figure out the links though :-) they're back to front: link is actually the video title (I fixed it in the quoted text).

Mouse poison (they're always getting into the car, and with those cookies and things...)
I usually keep something sweet in the car and was wondering lately about animals trying to get into it -- round here I'd guess the martens keep the mice at bay and either arent able to get into the car, or arent bothered (they more interested in chewing cables in my experience).

Dehydrated water (just seeing if anybody's paying attention)
just add water :-)

Probably not a bad thing, because who knows how long g+ is going to last anyways...

Hopefully a while.  There's quite a bit of activity on there, no matter what all of the pundits who are waiting for it to fail say.  And their communities are better than boards in the format of them, and definitely better than facebook.

Yeah, I can see that, but I was thinking what with google's history of killing off stuff that isn't fully successful...

I see my YT comments haven't been showing on my g+ page since last August. I dont have a lot of interaction via my g+ account but used to have some (none since August though).
I care, but not a whole lot.
The g+ page was good for giving me an overview of my recent YT activity -- that's what I miss most.

Comments on YT *are* visible when not logged in.
Comment history is no longer shown on my YT channel.

I did check g+ settings: everything was as it should be.
(I did disable and re-enabled some settings, so should check see if that made any difference with new comments -- older comments still not displayed on g+.)

So, g+ and YT alienate me yet again
Probably not a bad thing, because who knows how long g+ is going to last anyways...

It's a link to a WinPatrol web page for the mystery number; 1454789523; as such, I didn't believe it would cause a problem for anyone. Sorry.

ah, okay, no worries -- I guess you've got to be on Winpatrol Plus to see that page properly.
(FWIW I have it but not on this machine)

Still, people that want to do all of their computing with their phone, I will never understand. Buying every kind of peripheral, play games, play movies etc. ...it is just a phone! No matter the size of its screen, it is too small to truly enjoy a movie or other form of media. Is this a problem of me being old-fashioned or not accepting sub-par computing/media just like the rest of the world seems to be so eager to do? I don't know.

Hm... I'll go with old fashioned, damned if I know, and me too. :D

I think that a movie for one, or two intimately, is fine on an average size smartphone these days.
Me though, I'm afraid of going there [edit] hang on a sec, I didnt mean the intimate bit [/edit] : I enjoy having a percentage of (awake) life that is relatively internet free. Why I enjoy keeping smartphone use to a minimum.

I was trying to persuade myself into buying a cheap Win-phone, to compare the experience to my Android (personal) and iOs (work) phones, but this story increased the downside with another mile or so, so it'll take a lot of upside points to compensate again :o

Nothing so dramatic but I did find there were a few annoying aspects to Android (only have experience with 4.4 and haven't used it in a while).

Been using a Lumia 730 for almost two months, but at a very basic level.
Writing texts is hugely better with Win.8.1 -- the keyboard is much better; tbh I still dont fully understand how auto-correct works -- it seems to replace a word when it knows what you've written is incorrect, but it doesnt always; gives a great choice though for auto-correct.

It has no concept of back-up to SD, or save contacts to phone -- everything goes online (google or outlook). Using gmail I have yet to be able to search archived emails -- this not a big deal for me atm but may be important in the future, so I hope find a solution.

... every time I use Mega I become more and more impressed with it. It also has mobile apps (iOS/Android) and desktop clients for Windows, OSX, and Linux, as well as browser extensions. And the 50GB of storage is nice, too.

I cross-quoted that here -- if you have any experience with sync between devices via Mega do let us know

it deletes any selected object(s) you've added to the image.

most logical would be if it just kept going and offered to delete the screenshot once all objects are gone (naturally requiring confirmation).
I realise this may not be feasible, but think it would be the ideal.

EDIT// of course now I've posted I see it is complicated by the fact that there may be undeleted and unselected objects -- okay, forget that idea !

I also discovered Beethoven's Tempest Sonata -- via Nokia's 'Silver' ringtone which is a variation on the start of the third movement :-)

Seeing as it's a new car you're may not have to really worry much about this aspect:

I know from using jump leads between cars that the quality of the cables and connectors make a huge difference, i.e. cheaper ones sometimes work, but often dont, for no obvious reason.

From another thread:

For what it's worth, Dropbox fits my needs most of the time, but every time I use Mega I become more and more impressed with it. It also has mobile apps (iOS/Android) and desktop clients for Windows, OSX, and Linux, as well as browser extensions. And the 50GB of storage is nice, too.

another option, especially for lots of data. (No idea how or how well the sync works though.)

Re the commenting on a blog post:
the idea each blog post (automatically?) get a forum thread - which thread would then be shown in the sidebar --
that could work well.

And there's still lots of sites that require registration to comment, so I dont see a problem with that here (would probably have some advantages too -- less throwaway posts).

McAfee, ouch! Maybe it's gotten better but it certainly used be a monster -- possibly not the best for an old machine with little resources...
I'm reminded of someone I know well who had a Vista machine with Norton running with everything enabled. And I dont know was it one or two GB memory. Was a nightmare to use, at any rate.

I had such a heck of a time with this program I uninstalled it. I had a screen capture in the window and was trying the various tools, like hi lite, arrows. I could not figure out how to get rid of it when I was done. Tried everything. Saved it to my desktop and then deleted it. Deleted it from over at the side where the shots appear.

I know you've uninstalled it, but as you say, you can delete by focusing the file thumbnail on the left and using the delete key.
Delete screenshot is in the menu under 'File', and also there is a delete icon in the toolbar.

@mouser, is there a reason the delete key doesnt work when the image has focus in the main pane?

hi Sophy,
not sure I've seen that message before. There is a similar one which is a little more specific:

Application being captured: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

ATTENTION: A number of methods were attempted to scroll the contents of the target window, but nothing worked.

Sometimes when this happens it simply means you have to first click inside the actual content area of the window to be captured.

You could try clicking inside the target window where the content is, and then click the "Re-test" button; or choose manual scroll method below.

Alternatively, if you selected a full application window, click the "Back" button and re-select a more specific scrollable content area.

sometimes, if you click in the scrolling window, and have another go it will work.

btw, which OS is that?
Is that horizontal scrolling that is required?
(On windows 7 here atm, there's nothing to scroll in the Start Menu so I cannot test.)

P.S. And it's also for situations when you want to force the direction of the sync, i.e. when you want to ignore certain changes for certain files or folders on one machine and overwrite them with older versions from the other machine.

Just to clarify when this might be useful. Image you have the same already synced copy of a database file on the desktop and on a laptop. Then you do a lot of changes on the laptop to that file.

Then you reopen the same database application later on the desktop, to check something without changing anything. However, even that would have modified the file, as lots of database type apps might modify a file when you just open it to look at it.

Some cloud services might pick the desktop version as the latest version and overwrite the laptop version that has the important changes. Allway Sync allows you to review the files and force the sync in the direction in which you want it to happen, not which file was changed last.

a good argument for also having good local backup on each machine with multiple versions saved -- for that time when you just forget that you opened that database...

Grease was a raunchy, raw, aggressive, vulgar show. Subsequent productions sanitized it and tamed it down. The show mentions social issues such as teenage pregnancy, peer pressure and gang violence; its themes include love, friendship, teenage rebellion, sexual exploration during adolescence, and to some extent, class consciousness/class conflict.

Grease (musical) - Wikipedia

interesting :-)
The movie was one of the first I saw in the cinema. Was censored to boot, which made for some confusing sequences.

^ Have you installed dropbox on both machines?

I'm not 100% clear what you mean by 'target folder' -- as I said above Dropbox will sync the contents of the chosen 'dropbox' folder from one machine to another.
You'll have to install it, and log in on both machines
