I also hate those sites where you can't even find the developer's site.

agree -- that is the worst behavior and all such sites should be avoided.

thank you for reminding me -- you might have noticed that i FINALLY got around to updating Process Tamer after a long break.. so i'll see if i can take a look at this now.

it's very cool how you set it up.

but i have to agree with tomos -- it's pretty damn distracting for a forum.. i wonder if we should actually disable the use of animated images for forum avatars.. just too distracting imho.

CHS uses the Addict Spell Component (a big thank you to Addictive Software!) and you can find more dictionaries here:

Just to clarify, url snooper only locates urls, not downloads.

It sounds like huge credit to Orbit downloader and Grab++ since i really had no idea how to grab flash video.  This is pretty big since people are always asking how to record swf flash videos and I always have to say I don't know.  Now it sounds like 4wd found a solution.

If we do go with this.. then it may make sense to try to get one person willing to volunteer to read all of the threads and post occasional summaries of people's different methods, and encourage everyone participating, etc.
19982
And of course, everyone can discuss on the various threads any ideas they might have, and if people are interested in getting started with this kind of thing but don't know where to start, maybe they can get some inspiration from reading someone else's approach.

If you want something more organized and structured with "assignments" I am going to have to pass, though.

i agree that we shouldn't do "assignments".

Maybe this year's experiment could simply consist of a group of us saying: we are going to spend the next month trying to get more organized/efficient/productive, in whatever ways we can fathom, and post regular updates (each on our own thread) about our progress and what we're discovering, with the expectation of posting a summary at the end of the month about what worked and didn't?

Post New Requests Here / Re: Very, very easy request: Show what key is pressed
« Last post by mouser on April 02, 2009, 04:17 PM »
I almost suggested ShowOff myself -- which is a cool program meant to show on screen in a nice big font the key being pressed, and was designed for making screenscast video recordings.. It's a very useful tool for such purposes.

BUT, i think what Coeluh is asking for (correct me if wrong!) is something to help him figure out what the hotkeys or keyboard scancodes are for certain keys, so that he can use these codes in another program.

Speaking purely for myself, i would be interested in refining the hybrid system that i've cobbled together, and expanding it to use additional processes.
Or to put it differently, i'm interested in the practical aspect of trying to hammer out some habits and techniques i can add to my repertoire.. and perhaps even try to more formalize my own kind of system.

Yet another useful howto article from the MakeUseOf.com blog -- they have really been on fire lately.  Definitely worth a daily visit:

Not long ago, the ability to whip out your trusty PocketPC and set up remote computer access to your desktop PC would all have sounded like science fiction. Today, it’s not only a reality, but it’s completely free..

Ashampoo Uninstaller is pretty nice, and has nice features for tracking changes, though i find it a bit overwhelming with so many features:

I also see something on their site called Ashampoo Magical Uninstall.. no idea what that is or why they need 2 uninstaller tools

Camtasia is one of the most powerful, BB Flashback is excellent too, both commercial.
Wink, as mentioned before, is very good for less live-motion and more slide-based stuff, and is fee.

See this thread for more:

if you look around you shall see we use here Simple Machines Forum: http://www.simplemachines.org/
i like it. and would have no hesitate recommending it for a big site..

for a small company site you might consider something else, maybe see: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=7478.0

for wiki there are a lot of good choices.  one nice one is dokuwiki: http://www.dokuwiki.org/dokuwiki

We all owe a big 'thank you' to the excellent moderators here at DC.
Their light touch and fair-minded approach is invaluable.
The same goes for all the regular and helpful contributors.

amen.

Thanks for letting me know what it was -- clearly you are not the only one this happens to -- I shall try to make it clearer on the page so people are less likely to make that mistake.

This help page now has an actual screencast movie now which walks through the steps of putting in a license:
https://www.donation...er.com/Help/entry/1/

A couple things that seem to trip people up:
  • Make sure you select all of the lines of the license starting with *r1 (the license key is several lines long)
  • If you are using a non-donator license key, make sure you clicked on the link to generate the license key for the right program [many people see the list of license keys and instinctively think they are mirror links that are all the same, but for non-donators you have to select the right license key for the program you want].

Question:
If you exit the program and then restart it manually does it then show up in system tray?  In other words, is the disapearing icon phenomena only a problem when the program is started with windows? If so, that's a clue and I think i can track down and fix the problem.

Truth is the thing that will stick with me from this fundraiser was not that we raised so much more than we hoped, but how wonderful everyone has been about it.  It has reinvigorated me and made me realize how lucky i am to be here with all of you.  And you know I was dreading having to do this fundraiser, but you guys and gals made the whole thing fun.  That means so much to me.  Could not have asked for anything more. Thank you everyone.

The only thing left to say is: THANK YOU.
