1. Is there any option to automatically watermark a screenshot (I'd like to add a logo in the bottom right corner) ? If it's not possible in MiniCap, how can I achieve this with ScreenshotCaptor (I can't find the option to auto-watermark a screenshot) ?

the way to do it would be to find an external watermarking tool that can be invoked in commandline mode, and then add a commandline invocation of it inside Screenshot Captor or in minicap call.

see this post for some links: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=15798.0

and i'd love if you could share the solution you find.

---

2. Are there any official MiniCap or ScreenshotCaptor logos I could use ? I know about those clipart objects from SC, but I'd like to use something that displays only their titles, without "made with", and with transparent background.

that's a really nice thought :)
Hamradio made some cool big icons for SC that would be suitable maybe: https://www.donation....msg127164#msg127164

Everyone here knows John S. (aka Gothi[c]) who does such an amazing job admistering the donationcoder servers (both the main server and the newly upgraded member server).

Well he's finally been convinced to start a blog (sorry! i meant "web log") talking about server administration issues.  It's pretty hairy stuff but makes for great reading.  Since he's a bit reluctant to toot his own horn I'm here to let you all know about it.

Of course those of us who know John know that he's never content to just use something as he finds it.  Naturally then he decided to create a unique wordpress theme that bears an uncanny resemblance to an old fashioned green text terminal.  It's a very cool effect, and one of the more unique Wordpress themes i've seen.  And of course knowing John you already know that he made the theme available for download under the GPL on the blog, so you can go get it there.

you should be able to already drag and drop a movie file into flipbook printer.

We moved servers and so donationcoderS.com became dcmembers.com, and it looks like kubicle's files never got moved -- just an oversight!

We'll see if we can't get this fixed today and let kubicle know.

Thanks for the heads up -- i hadn't realized he was affected..

DcUpdater / Re: DcUpdater and un-installing FARR Plugins
« Last post by mouser on April 15, 2009, 06:02 AM »
Sorry for the delayed response, i've been a bit under the weather..
You're not doing anything wrong.. it's a weakness in the current way that the updater knows about new programs/addons to install.

I'm in the process of revamping this completely in the new version of the updater, so stay tuned.
One of the additional features will be the ability to uninstall items using the updater.

Thanks for the report Nitin -- sorry it took so long to reply!

As you say, that last one could be hard to fix on my part -- i'm not even sure where to start, BUT i'll work on the rest.

I agree with you about the alias sorting problem.. right now the user has to order them manually but i could make an option to sort them.

Let me check into the /APP problem -- it should work without requiring any escaping at all -- i'll have to figure out why it's not.

The phenomena of internet Memes is a bottomless pit of sociological wonderment.  Some unusual image or video catches fire for one reason or another and seemingly overnight dozens of satiric parodies are created and posted by anyone and everyone, with the best examples achieving a kind of blinding comedy brilliance..

I posted recently about the new member kits i'm trying to prepare to send out to members.  A member kit is just fancy word for some fun stuff that can get put into an envelope.

I've been including a really boring "letter" that is only a couple of paragraphs long.

What I want to do from now on is include a super-dense double-sided page that is in the style of one of those old timey advertisement-laden newspaper rags, crammed edge to edge with fun made up stuff relating to donationcoder.

Just stuff that would make people smile, with some insider jokes perhaps.  I was thinking we could have oblique references to cody, skrommel, and various things.  Let's set it in the late 1800s or early 1900s.. (how will we explain software to an audience from the 1800s??)  let's include some crazy "coupons" maybe some jokes, etc.  i really just want it packed edge to edge with curiousities.

Is there someone who thinks they might be up for this task and want to give it a try?  Let me know! ([email protected])

fenix, you'll be getting the new bookmarks -- i have a backlog of 27 member kits that i havent sent yet because i was waiting for them..  however, you wont be getting these new stickers that i'm talking about since those are at least a month away even if we decide to get them made.

they don't cost the recipient anything.. they cost dc based on whats in them and the shipping, maybe $2 each.
it's only economically (and time wise for me in terms of making and mailing) feasible if a small proportion of donors ask for them, which has so far been the case.

sorry to insult everyone's intelligence by asking for so simple an app

to quote paraphrase the ancient wisdom of the movie War Games: "Sometimes the only way to win is not to play" -- it seems like this request led to one of those very useful discussions where one finds a simpler solution by talking about a problem with others.  so that's a win-win in my book.

Basically the way it works is that these are vinyl stickers which are shaped/die-cut.

So basically you can choose the size of the sheet and then the outlines for all of the stickers, than can be peeled away from the back.

So might thought was a 3" by 5" sized card, with 3 different roughly 1.5" by 2" small stickers laid out across the top, and then one approx. 4" by 1" long sticker laid out on the bottom.  Online the bottom one would have text and would be like the normal website banner i think.. the others would be some fun poses of cody we've all come to love.. him sitting under tree, flying in spaceship, carrying his coin.

Again the stickers would be "shaped" meaning a border around each sticker that *roughly* outlined the shape of the image, which would add some interest to it.

Alternatively, it would be cheaper to do just  one larger sticker if people think that would be better.. frankly i don't know if anyone really cares..

Most of you who are donating/supporting/honorary members of the site know about the fun and free member kit thing that you can request.  About 200 have been mailed out so far all across the globe.

I've actually got a big backlog of requests that i've been delaying sending as i try to put together some better stuff to send out.  In the past it's been mostly stuff printed on a printer and of dubious quality.

Here's a photo of the new book bookmarks that arrived today; i'll probably send out 2 of each type in the member kits (the small card in the middle is the membership card to help show scale):

dcbookmarks.jpg

I think the best part is that these bookmarks could actually have some use value(!)

Additionally.. I've recently found a pretty cool place that will print some very high quality stickers (Sticker Robot) for a reasonable price -- but it's still very expensive to do.  It would be really fun to be able to send out a 3"x5" sheet of high quality cody stickers in the new member kits.  The price would be about $500 for a run of 1000 such sticker cards (each 3x5 card would have a few small stickers), and that supply would last a couple of years.  What do you think? Is it worth spending so much money on something that has no real purpose, doesnt in any way pay for itself, and only serves to inject a little fun into the atmosphere?

so i have one more practical suggestion/idea for you:

a natural way to do this is as you suggested, an app that "would respond with a simple string like 'yes' when contacted over the network on a certain port."

however, a much more low-tech solution also seems like it would be feasible and MUCH easier to implement:

a small application that either ran on login/logout, or in the background constantly, and rather than respond to requests over a port (a process which could be a bit problematic both for security, firewall, and programming reasons), was simply configured to access a lan web page and REPORT IN.

In other words, a tiny program which would simply be configured to open a page like:
https://university.edu/library/reporting.php?stationid=34F&status=userloggedin&password=secretpassword

Seems to me that could have a number of nice benefits in addition to being easier to code.
