General Software Discussion / Re: Real RAM amount consumed
« Last post by Contro on August 05, 2014, 07:49 AM »
The Sysinternal Suite also comes with a tool that will show you if your computer has a rootkit or not.

After only a quick glance over the screenshots I didn't see too much problematic things. However, there are 82 processes running on your system. That might be a bit on the high side. This could also mean that you are running out DHEAP memory. Although Windows 7 and up handle this much better than earlier Windows versions, you can still run out of it and in that case it really doesn't matter how much free RAM is still available in your PC. Running out of DHEAP will make your system become (extremely) slow and applications/services won't be able to start anymore. Behavior that is usually associated with PC virus/malware.

There is also the possibility that you ran out of threads. Processors come in various shapes and sizes. Each with their own, finite amount of threads they can handle. Each process uses a certain amount of threads, depending on its function or what it is currently doing. Running out of threads will make your applications/services slow and you won't be able to start more of them no matter how much free RAM your system still has left. Behavior that is usually associated with PC virus/malware.

In both cases, the best solution is to identify which of the 82 processes running on your computer is from a 3rd party (easily seen in Process Explorer). Then identify which of the 3rd party processes are essential to you and and terminate the rest. Then your computer should be much more responsive and allow you to disable autostarting crap (SysInternals Suite tool: AutoRuns).

Get familiar with the tools in the SysInternals Suite, there are a lot of them and are very, very helpful. The archive is just a 13MByte download and is provided at no cost, so there isn't much to lose.

[rant]
Keep your PC lean and mean by starting applications/services only when you need them and terminate these when you are finished with them. Lots of software claims it to be essential that it is started the moment Windows starts. Besides security software (anti-virus/anti-malware/firewall) there isn't much software that really needs to autostart with Windows or kept resident after you are finished with it.

This will free up a lot of the limited resources at your computer's disposal and make your computer behave better in general. If you would be a doctor, your computer the patient and it's resources the amount of health it has...would you really think that leeches are still a good treatment? In my (not even close to humble) opinion, it isn't.

I have read twice at least your answer.
Obviously i am that type of user that have too many opened proccesses.
I have not discovered - yet - how can I sum the ram values obtained with process explorer.
Systernals tools are splendid for professionals. I have downloaded in the past and apply in my possibilities.

(see attachment in previous post)
According to TMD you have a 26GB pagefile ... is this correct or just the weird way it reports it?

Yes it's true 4wd . I don't remember now if I read sometime this value must be under twice the ram memory.
At the present moment I have applied so many security apps that the portatil goes very fast.

There is not contradiction or controlversial between these applications.
The percentage of cpu usage of ram memory is the same i obtain with the getwidget of windows 7

so possibly i don't know SUM or some amounts are hidden ..... :-[

I am sure you are right but ......

I was trying at the present moment two apps :

Task Manager Deluxe

DTask Manager (by Dimio)

and I have installed as portables from time ago the superbs

Process Explorer
and
Process Hacker

What's my problem then ?
Obviously I am doing something bad.

In most of these programs i receive direct information about cpu usage and ram usage with % indications.

When open a virtualbox virtual machine received about 69.000 kb of ram memory consumed. I supposed there are more processes associated.

But I sum the ram processes values and is not the same of the % indicated by the apps. So i have a mess and i would like to assure the values in porcentage are equal everywhere.

During a past virus attack kidnapping the browser i experimented considerable variations in the ram without repercussion in the opened programs.
The programs opened was not possible to occupy almost 4 GB i have in this pc.

So I doubt of this tools and its indications and would like to assure they give me the correct information even when a rootkit or similar is in the pc.

How can I do this with Process Explorer ?

Best Regards

Edited 26.08.2014.20.09 :
I really going mad. I affirm the sum of the ram memories indicated in the % of the task administrator is not the real . I put screenshot.
An utility to sum really the ram memory and control it ?

Original : I think was a little problem with the PC, but lately began to go slowly and waste a great amount of ram memory with few applications opened.

Under windows 7 i am using the sidebar.exe to indicate the ram and cpu usage. When I open the task manager the sum of the ram amounts consumed by the processes I doubt sums the % indicated in the downside of the window or in the needle in the sidebar.

Do you know an application to sum really the ram amount consumed by any hidden process ? I have clicked all users to see all the processes.

Superb !!!!!

"Regular Expression Laboratory

Regular Expression Laboratory is an assistant simple to use tool to help you learn and prepare regular expressions.

If you are a developer or just do some text processing tasks, Regular Expression Laboratory is what you need. In fact, you might feel you needed a program like this one but could not formalize your needs. We have done this job for you. Now you can construct your regular expressions with ease and test them by applying to arbitrary text.

The maximum size of a stored regular expression supported by Regular Expression Laboratory is the same as for HandyFile and Text Workbench: the incredible 2MB!

Download Regular Expression Laboratory  2.0.0.1"

Instant Text 7 Pro with an interesting feature : automatic glossary creation. But I think this last program don't have the regexp feature.
I just checked IT7's Help file and can find no mention of regular expressions.  Personally, I don't see the need for regexps in a text expander.  You might be better served by trying a bulk search-and-replace tool, something like HandyFile Find And Replace (HFFR), which does support them.

Thanks rjbull. I will try the link.

https://www.donation...x.php?topic=26050.50

There are a lot of posts with more 360 days old about this theme. I was doubting if undig the above post, but better begin another one.

There are a lot of text expanding programs, but only a few with regexp capabilities like AUSPEX .

The need of implementing is not assumed by all programmers. (At least in my poor interpretation)

http://msdn.microsof...8v=office.11%29.aspx            Yes
http://www.emeditor....ting-wildcardsregex/               Yes
https://forum.openof...amp;p=319848#p319848    No
http://forum.pspad.com/read.php?2,31025                                                                 No
Phrase Express                                                                                                      No (See the first link)
Auspex                                                                                                                Yes (See the first link)
I found another paid program with an old installer in the style of windows 98 SE : Instant Text 7 Pro with an interesting feature : automatic glossary creation. But I think this last program don't have the regexp feature. And in despite of the installer the programmer tells is up to windows 8.
There are not much more explicitely in the web for windows in this aspect.
But really the powerful of regexp - in my opinion - is present inside any grammatical style corrector or spell checker (ortography).
But is not so often in the auto correct or auto replace option.

Why ?
May be two reasons :
1. The first is told by Bartel from Phrase Express
2. The second is because is Sancta Santorum Area for Programmers.

About a few months ago i put a post in this forum about recombine the expression "*** JOSE ***  July 24, 2014 at 12:12am " to search in a screenshot folder and screenhots created by ScreenShot Captor.
Read the expression in several ways to search in my screenshots folder i created every month.
See the screenshot for the configuration.
Reach the answer take a considerable time to a good friend programmer because is not easy - unless you use often regular expressions - the first time. And he does good professional software but we made loose the temper to more than one programmer while the program was not complete because of the necessary stress trying.

At the present moment I don't doubt try AUSPEX because of the reasons explained by others in the first link above.
Obviously the rest are not options for me at the beginning.

AUSPEX has the courage to try or experiment with the difficulties of the regular expressions. I have seen a post to orient with tricks about the use of the program . Don't have a help file or a link to that post.

I am trapped several weeks ago with these type of programs during my holidays. Just because the word, in all its aspects, is the tool for searching and study.

At the present moment there are a few tools to summarize text, but really nothing about simplify the spanish language to improve the readability. There are projects now that seems in stand by waiting to end this year.

I try to download a free dictionary generator and fills my pc with viruses.

I try to learn conlangs , but don't find a useful tool for me.

I am searching for a free application with at least 5 GB of program/data capacity able to launch any desktop windows application.

I have found a lot of environments for web browsers able to simule a windows desktop on the cloud with its own applications.
Something like Google Docs where the important things are the objects/documents : manipulate text, image and well known archives like xls, doc, etc.

Some of the tools offers free storage or even connect to cloud storage services.

Anyone knows a tool for this purpose : Upload any windows program and install in the cloud. Upload the initial data (databases, files, .....) . Execute and works with the program from any place with the web browser.....

Is for a databases manager and I would like to make consultations everywhere.

I hope that what happen may serve to you.
I am very used to install programs. Not as a programmer of course.
I have observed the program - or the needed GIT uses the contextual menu with three entries :
Git init here
Git gui
Git bas
I am not using the program and the aim was try the system for you. I think needs a litlle more of "ergonomy" and easy manipulation.
So I don't recommend

The program - I have downloaded several - works very well until this moment but don't do what i need.
Is powerful to rename windows, but the effects are with all the ones.
Even you can replace a title, or add anything. But like the two windows have the same title (LibreOffice) all the actions will modify the two window titles in the same way with no option.
