I installed Jdowloader2 and this horrible software changed my Firefox search engine to horrible bing.com!
I wonder how can I revert it back and what other 'alterations' it made to my system??
Were you not change (back) the default search engine and home page yourself (?)

And can you elaborate on the 'fake google results'?

I've seen it before on infected systems.  They hijack any searches to do it on another platform and make it look pretty similar to google.  Changing the search engine doesn't change this; it's an extension/plugin/BHO.

I did post a video earlier:
<a href="https://ufile.io/k18fj"></a>

I changed that in the prior post to not be link, because archive.is shows it linking to some sketchy sites.  I'll leave it, but you might want to look at using a more reputable site to host your downloads- perhaps even just attach it here?

I shall presume it doesn't contribute to your thermometer goal, but thank you for setting up the Patreon.

There is a patreon for DC?  What's the URL?

Anyone interested in attempting a code snack on this topic?  :tellme:

You could probably post a request in the coding snacks area, and see if anyone bites.  They might not see it here.

It scans through the url doesn't it?

Just in case, I downloaded it, and scanned the file (Install JDownloader.rar) with Malwarebytes.  Nothing.

I then uploaded that to virustotal.

https://www.virustot...211b7d581f/detection

There are a few, but I think it's a heuristic failure or something, looking at the results.  It does have adware in it, apparently, which might as 4wd put it, cause the symptoms stated if installed.

I don't care enough to go further than that.

1. C# (Unity)

Now you have me wanting to learn Unity again.  But I know that the feeling will pass in a few days as I struggle at work in my new overloaded position.  ;D

1. What language did you make it in?
2. Where did you get the graphics?

I wish I had joined just so I could vote LOL  ;D

Great job getting it done!

UPDATE:

3. How do you win the arcade part?

ClipMate also can't search for S'Mores, which is a problem for me but probably not most users!

Ok, you have to expand on this.   Or not, but that would be mean! :)

It can't parse the apostrophe in it. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
Doug

Oh!  I thought you mean S'Mores specifically  ;D

I wondered how long it would take for some enterprising soul to make this into a well-produced game.  Answer... not long.

In a campaign by Mike Mesnick (of TechDirt) on kickstarter- you too can play a game that was used to train CIA Agents!

I actually use ClipboardFusion.  CH&S is a great application, but for my uses, CF works better (clipping across several machines/devices, and removing formatting from clips are the largest ones)

I don't see what problem this causes to you.

Think of it in terms of the others, not just yourself.  You have to do the due diligence, and this will help you to learn, and help others to want to help you.  As it is, you say "I want, I want, I want..." and never "I learned, and maybe someone else can benefit from this."  (And the added benefit of no wasted time/effort for those that try to help you.

Or, you can do the harder thing and just ignore his requests, if you don't think it will come to anything.  He can make as many requests as he wants to.  We don't have to answer him.  And we certainly don't have to make fun of his responses.

Are you doing Compo or Jam?

I have an idea, but I just don't work from scratch that fast  :-[

What is the "Compo"?
1792
Depends heavily on the purpose/goal of your application...

This.  So much this.  People look at web vs desktop as if it's a static decision.  It's very much based on use case, IMO.

Living Room / Re: Any way to detect and block spoofed phone numbers?
« Last post by wraith808 on April 20, 2018, 09:45 AM »
The FCC issued a Consumer Alert about the current spoofing epidemic last month.

Don't expect them to do much about it though. Here's the official FCC guide to protecting yourself from spam calls. Not much help there, although they do provide links to most carriers' pages on the topic.

I simply let all numbers that are not in my phone book go through to voicemail, and if it's a legitimate caller, I'll call back.  Google Voice is great for this since it provides text transcriptions of most messages, so I don't even have to listen to them to know if I should respond.

So much this.  I found the same alerts when searching, but they were so useless that I didn't bother to post them.  :-\ Google voice is a boon, and I have separate numbers for my home e-mail address linked to my phones live, and my main e-mail address, which isn't linked to anything that I use whenever someone requests my phone number.

There are several online virus scanners.

enter the url of the download.  That should do it.  I think.

I have hiya on my phone, however it only detects scammers and spammers. As far as I can tell, there is no option to detect spoofing.

You can't put in patterns?  Have you looked at the others?  It hasn't reached critical mass for me yet.
I can, but then I run the risk of blocking legit callers

I don't get what you're asking then.  You're asking if it can automagically detect if a number is spoofed?  Don't think there's a way to do that, though I could be wrong.  I just put in the pattern.  The chances of someone calling with my same area code and exchange are pretty slim, I figure.

UPDATE: Got rid of CallControl almost immediately.  Needed too much access to my google account, and it's a subscription service.  Trying NoPhoneSpam now.

I'm having the same thing happen on my google voice and my wife's cell.  It just started on my cell.  I wish there was some way to just block all by exchange...

Update:  I hadn't actually been annoyed enough before to look.  There are several that I've found from a simple google search.

Call Control

https://play.google....oid.everycallcontrol

That's the one that I'm currently trying, but there's also:

No Phone Spam

https://play.google.....bitfire.nophonespam

I'm thinking about trying this instead as it's FOSS and apparently doesn't require a lot of permissions.

There's also:

TrueCaller

https://play.google....ls?id=com.truecaller

Didn't try this, because I'm not sure if this is the one recommended as many came up when I searched for TrueCaller

Note: For iOS, there's Hiya (which is also available on Android)

https://itunes.apple...caller-id-and-block/

https://play.google....webascender.callerid

There were several that came up as related to these apps, so just search and you can find them if these are not to your liking.

Post New Requests Here / Re: Programming Language Question
« Last post by wraith808 on April 18, 2018, 10:34 PM »
Well, let's assume one wants to simply get the job done as expeditiously and efficiently as possible, with the best today's programming languages can offer.

Would be great if there were one universal programming language that could pretty much do all things.

I think that's the beauty of programming/scripting language.  Each has it's own strength within it's realms, and weaknesses without.  Any language designed for all problems would end up being truly good at none of them.  Pick the best language for the job, no matter what it is, and you'll have a better time than picking second best, even if it might get the job done.  In the end, they're all tools, and just as a carpenter doesn't limit himself to one tool out of his toolbox for all tasks, neither should programming languages be viewed in such a way.

As far as your question above as to whether you have to learn and feeling that you should be solving the problem yourself- if that's your desire, learn.  But you don't have to.  Most don't.
