I really don't even know what to think about this, so I'll leave it to all you guys n gals that know a little bit more about Europes politics.....  But I will say that I'm a little cynical about it....

EU-US data-sharing deals reviewed amid Prism scandal
A European Union team will arrive in Washington, D.C. on Monday to assess how the U.S. is using data it receives from the E.U.

As part of a scheduled review, experts from the European Commission's home affairs department will conduct an examination of the Passenger Name Record (PNR) deal and the Terrorist Finance Tracking Programme (TFTP).

The European Parliament gave its consent Thursday to the possibility of suspending the two data-sharing deals following allegations that the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) bugged E.U. offices in New York and Washington.

I used to have an Uzi .40 cal S&W.  Beautiful gun, very accurate with stopping power.  Now I either pack my M1911A1 .45 Auto or my Ruger 38 Special.  When roaming around my land I carry my .45/410 loaded with 410 Magnum buckshot.  It's really almost impossible to miss anything with that.  lol

When I'm on the farm, I carry my Ruger Blackhawk Super and use .460 loads.

I love Ruger's,  my 38 Special is a Ruger, plus I have a few more. I think they make the best guns on the market.  When shopping for my 38 Spl, I compared a S&W to the Ruger and the difference was huge.  The Ruger was much better in every facet, plus it was cheaper.  The S&W 38 Spl looked like a toy gun compared to the Ruger, and you could tell that it was a stouter made weapon.  The S&W actually rattles when shook.  lol

I use a program called Piky Basket that adds itself to the RMC menu on Windows Explorer and other file management programs.  You highlight what you want to copy or move and select "Drop in Basket".  The RMC on another folder and select either Copy All or Move All.  I use it anytime I'm copying/moving files, especially when I'm copying and moving the files to two different drives.  When you select the copy option, it copies the files but leaves them in the basket until you either move the files or empty the basket.  You also have the option to select only certain files to be copied/moved.

You could use Avant instead, it's light weight and fast.
And I would choose Avant over Firefox if I was wanting to stay in an IE frame of mind.

http://www.avantbrowser.com/

I use Avant for my work email and work related tasks.

Even though I'm using Avant right now, I couldn't, in all honesty recommend it to anybody right now.  Ever since the 100's builds there has been a ton of bugs that won't be fixed until build 109 or later....

The comments section is probably Java, so make sure you have the latest update.  You may also want to make sure Flashplayer is updated.  If you have Java disabled in IE8, that will prevent you from seeing the comments section as well.  There are many "things" that can cause this, these are the most likely causes....

All the apps on DoCo are of high quality ....

I'll refute that!

If at any point someone finds that one of my miscellaneous small programs/batch files is of high quality, please tell me and I'll fix it.  At no point have I ever tried to make any of my apps high quality, and I'll vigorously defend my right to not do so!

Only 1 in 10 work without crashing  :P

LOL!  Well, if it works as advertised without crashing your computer, munging files/drives or any other bad outcome, then it's high quality.  Simple is better, which is why everyone says "KISS" (Keep It Simple, Stupid).   :P

Living Room / Re: 10 signs you may have OCD
« Last post by Tinman57 on July 02, 2013, 03:47 PM »
On a more serious note, I have been growing increasingly annoyed by the need for people to "diagnose" the psychological condition of everyone.  Depression, anxiety, OCD, etc.  I don't know why it bothers me so much (probably indicative of one of these conditions), but it does.  It seems to do more harm than good.  Like that person who points out the zit on your face, as if you're not already aware of it.  Just being a dick.  "What is that thing on your face?"  Shut up.

So what if someone washes their hands a lot.  Unless it's really a bad problem that is severely affecting their lives (how do you judge where the line is?) just leave them alone.  Some people organize things a little obsessively.  So what?  It's not bad!  There's some value to that!  Some people don't organize at all.  So what?!

And for some reason, it has been particularly prevalent in Los Angeles.  Maybe so in other places to, but I have really noticed it here lately.  Wives telling husbands all the little things wrong with them.  Bosses nitpicking every little thing here and there.  People are different.  Oh this person is antisocial, he likes to keep to himself, so creepy (me).  Oh that person is pretentious, always needing to talk a lot.  Where is this perfect balance they want?  Now, they'll hear me talking like this and say I have anger issues, why am I depressed?  Oh you're too negative (to me).  Oh you're too positive (me to them).  Sheesh.

I'll tell you one thing.  I haven't been able to do much really good things without getting pretty OCD about it.  Whether it's music, drawing, project management, etc.  I've read journals by great men who accomplished great things, and they were super OCD.  The Germans?  Please.

And the news in the media, oh the news.

I apologize for the rant.  And yes, I do enjoy a good rant every now and then.

It just depends on how bad your OCD is.  When it gets to the point that you can't work or socialize because your too busy washing your hands every 5 minutes, then it is a problem for these people.  Or the person that can't sleep because he/she gets up at all hours of the night to make sure that everything is in it's place.  Or the need to touch or count things.  These people do need help to control their obsessions in order to lead a relatively normal life.

Please... that's hypocrisy at work.  The only thing the EU is glad about is that the NSA got caught.  If you don't think that countries don't run ops against their own 'partners' and 'allies', then I have a bridge to sell you in San Francisco.  And I'll throw in some beach front property in New Mexico.

  That's old news.

And PRISM takes a turn.  I couldn't have predicted this.  Really, I couldn't.

George W. Bush Defends PRISM: 'I Put That Program In Place To Protect The Country'

Holy crap... talk about blurring lines....

"I think there needs to be a balance, and as the president explained, there is a proper balance."

If even a year ago you told me that Bush would come to Obama's defense and would justify their shared unpopular program by referring to Obama's own words, I would have laughed.

Yep, Bushy is the one that started all of this crap, and Obama pushed it even further.  The news today was that Europe is having a hissy fit about the U.S. spying on European citizens.  Well gosh, they're just now figuring that out?  It's not like FISA didn't openly state what it was going to do, and the U.S. has been busted more than once for spying on our allies.  Either way, I hope between the pressure we're putting on them and Europes pressure will resolve this problem, but most likely the U.S. will just keep on doing it secretly....

Be sure to read its warning page which explains the limitations of what this distro can do for security.

Oh the irony ... We're in the process of transitioning the internal systems (going virtual), and I don't currently have an unfiltered (bypass) DNS server available (decommissioned hard box). So when I tried to visit your link I got nailed by the (to keep the staff honest) edge web filter.

Now granted, I am the admin ... But I feel obligated to yell at myself for being a %&^*$ dumbass.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Side note: I noticed that OpenDNS is rather curiously absent from the above list...have they gone to the dark side?!?

I found the same thing when I clicked the link.........

MAYBE what he really was saying is that under certain circumstances it is too difficult for a new visitor to navigate the site.

There are too many free apps out there for someone to jump through all these hoops then this endless circle of click here and there to get license key. Count me out

The majority of those "free" apps you mention are either poorly coded or loaded with spyware, adware or malware.  All the apps on DoCo are of high quality and DO NOT have spyware, adware or any kind of malware.

A lot of those free apps your talking about don't have any support base, if you have a problem, your on your own.  Here at DoCo there's a very good support base not only from the user base, but also the coders of these apps.

If you make a nice donation you can have a key code that unlocks all the apps.  Nowhere else have I seen this.  I've been so impressed with the apps, support and updates that I've made 4 or 5 donations already.

About the only thing that would get their attention is about a million people standing on their lawns demanding it stopped....

Since they seem to want to know all about our personal business ... I say we get a million folks together and go take a shit on their front lawn. Then we can ask'em if they're happy with what they wished for.

Sigh....  If only we could get that accomplished.....

If it was just outlawed like it should have been from the start we wouldn't be having this discussion....

Which is what I was driving at. Resolving the tracking issue by starting yet another list, is like trying to take your mind off a nose bleed by dropping an anvil on your foot.  :)

A lot of people just don't care about privacy until it bites them on the back-side....

How we sabotage our own privacy for deals and ego

A study from consulting firm Infosys shows consumers globally are far more
relaxed about sharing their private data than we knew and far more relaxed
than they should be.

Us Americans aren't too happy with our government either.  In fact, most Americans KNOW that our government has lost it's way and caters to the almighty dollar (Corporations).  A lot of us know that the U.S. isn't as "free" as it claims to be, but then there's all the sheeple that think the U.S. is protecting them from all the bad guys with all the spying laws and it's a good thing.  You know, idiots.....  We vote what we think is going to be a good, honest politician, and as soon as he/she gets into office they start making the wrong decisions just like the rest.  Sometimes I think they get brainwashed shortly after they are sworn into office.

For the most part, Americans are good people, but we have way too many bad people as well.  What really hurts the American image is our ambassador's in uniform, the military.  I've seen all too well how a lot of the military troops (inner city types) go to other countries riding down the street chanting "America is #1" and basically acting like school kid bullies.  I've seen them drunk in the streets taking a piss on the sidewalk and talking trash to any female that happens by.  This is where most foreign (to the U.S.) people get their first in-person impressions of Americans, and it's not a very good first impression.....

Living Room / Re: EU Court - Piracy Tax On Printers
« Last post by Tinman57 on June 28, 2013, 07:31 PM »
:(

Can anyone 'translate' this:

The court does however limit the amount that can be levied. "The overall amount of fair compensation must not be substantially different from the fixed amount owed for the reproduction obtained through the use of one single device," the ruling said.

I think they're saying that you can't be taxed more than once per printer, but this is the most confusing legalese that I've ever seen.  I think they either misprinted the quote or the person that made the quote got tongue-tied.  Either way, it's a really bad law.  But like Carol said, it should make copying legal, even though they will fight that as well.

When CD's first came out in mass back in the 80's, the MPAA/RIAA sued for the same thing and was awarded a special tax per CD sold, but yet it's still illegal to copy anything.  Basically, they get their cake and eat it too....
