At the same time I'm watching this thinking how cool it is, I get thrown back in my chair thinking of the devastation this is causing.
My heart goes out to you folks living there.

I'm not quite sure whether to heave or drool, but here goes...

Did somebody say...
Fancy Fast Food?

These photographs show extreme makeovers of actual fast food items purchased at popular fast food restaurants. No additional ingredients have been added except for an occasional simple garnish.

And just what is the recipe for the Tapas de Castillo Blanco above?

  • 1 White Castle Sack Meal #1, with cheese and bacon (four bacon cheeseburger Slyders, a box of french fries, and a medium Coca-Cola)
  • 1 White Castle Sack Meal #8 (two chicken sandwiches, a box of onion rings, and a medium Hi-C Poppin’ Pink Lemonade)
  • 1 order of fried clams
  • packets of tartar sauce and ketchup
  • parsley (for garnish)

Actually I found a kinda neat use for it...
You know the "make a web app look like a normal app" feature?
I used that for the web interfaces for Popfile and my router.

They look a little less cluttered and it behaves the same as in a browser, but really that's not a big deal at all.
Cute maybe, but necessary? Nah.
Which you have been able to with Prism since almost a year prior to Google releasing Chrome. Why does everyone get hot and bothered when Google release something "innovative", but when Firefox gets an upgrade all you hear are complaints?

Ehtyar.

Gee...
I didn't know about Prism.

Operating Systems  >:(

The more I come to love and subsequently depend on Linux, the more warts I see.
Then again, I (ab)use Windows every day at work and it's got warts a-plenty.
I haven't had a chance to check out Mac OSX, but I do read the reviews and opinions when I have the time and apparently it's got warts too.
Shiny, plastic ones.

For all the smart guys cranking out the silicon oatmeal worldwide you'd think we'd have this one licked by now...

Way cool!
I like the funky looks on some of these.
For a more 'Old School' version, try the Dirkon*.
Published in 1979 in the magazine ABC mladých techniků a přírodovědců [An ABC of Young Technicians and Natural Scientists].

Its creators, Martin Pilný, Mirek Kolář and Richard Vyškovský, came up with a functional pinhole camera made of stiff paper, designed for 35 mm film, which resembles a real camera. It may not be the most practical of devices, but it works!

dirkon_02.jpg

I wonder if you could make one out of thin sheet metal to make it more durable?

*The name Dirkon is a play on words based on the combination of the parts of two words: Dirk- is the beginning of the Czech word dírka – pinhole, and -kon is the end of the name of a well-known Japanese camera which needs no introduction.

WHOA NELLY!!

I am really spoiled here at work with the super high speed cable connection. I didn't even notice it was that huge.
So, the upshot here is that I wouldn't recommend it unless you've got a very good connection and lots of disk space.
Even then, that's a bit much for a folded piece of paper, eh?

I'm sticking with PocketMod...

If you liked PocketMod or D*I*Y Planner, you're going to love this one.
PLANS UNFOLDING is a new software program for creating a pocket-sized paper organizer and planner customized for the layout and content that you want. Both letter and A4 paper sizes are supported. Choose from among several standard page types supported by the interface, or create custom page designs and share them online. Use background images downloaded from the image gallery or use your own photographs. Print the output on a color printer, make a few folds and one cut, and you have a convenient booklet with every one of its 16 pages accessible. It's easy and convenient, and it's free.

The Plans Unfolding software provides a complete, convenient user interface to arrange and maintain your organizer data. It's backed by the powerful LaTeX typesetting engine coupled with the TikZ vector drawing package to create professional-quality letter-size or A4 output. Cross off entries and pencil in new ones as you go. Print out a new, updated one whenever you feel like it.

Living Room / DIY Vacuum tubes

I could watch this for days...

Check out this absolutely mesmerizing (17 minute!) video of a French amateur radio operator who rolls his own vacuum tube triodes! I love the ease with which he performs these rather high-end skills (like glass forming), the gestural flourishes (like it's hand magic), and the Zelig-esque soundtrack.

Not only does he make his own vacuum tubes, it looks like much of his equipment is hand-made as well.
Mesmerizing.
The win... you can smell it.

xPlorer2 has such functionality called scrap containers.
From the x2 manual:
A scrap pane has several powerful uses:
  • Collect items from various places (including NN PCs) and optionally save these lists.
  • Flatten a complex folder system (contents of the folder and all its subfolders are recursively shown in a single, flat list)
  • Hold results of search operations. Save the results if necessary.
  • Search within previous search results.
  • Re-organize your collection (copy/move your files and folders to new locations)
  • Check for duplicates (and optionally delete the duplicates)
...
Scrap container is a virtual container—when you put any item in it, it does not actually create a separate copy of the original item, but only shows you an “image” of that item. When you rename, move or delete that image, x2 renames, moves or deletes the original item. Because a scrap container contains only images (and not full replicas of the real items), it occupies only a fraction of the disk space as compared to the original items it points at.

So, instead of memorizing selections of items, you ask x2 to remember collections of items: After copying items into a Scrap Container, save it with a suggestive name that reminds you of its purpose.
Tips:
    1. Include the subject (and also the date-stamp for time-bound tasks) in the filename itself (for example, Meet_2Jul.cida will remember your collection for the meeting on 2nd July.)
    2. Organize your office work and personal work into major areas. If you are more organized person, create subfolders to reflect subtopics.
Create a folder system that reflects this organization. Always store your collections in the appropriate folders; so you will know where to search. See chapter-8 for a detailed discussion about this.
    3. Using Scrap Containers, you can define and remember unlimited number of collections. As discussed, when you copy an item into a scrap container, x2 does not occupy double the disk space. Therefore, you can copy the same item into multiple scrap containers without really bothering about disk space.

Oh jeez. :nono2:

The home page is back up and they have a song...

Oh yeah

Boot up

You get the GUI out front

Hottest styles, every theme, every color

Yeah, when you're root it can be kinda fun

As long as your password is never discovered

In some ways you're just like all your friends

But on the internetz you're a star

You get the best of both OS,s

Run Windows, take it slow

Then Linux rocks out the show

You get the best of both OS,s

Mix it all together and you know that it's the best of both OS,s

The best of both OS,s

And a sticker

Like some have noted this week, I don't think we should go to Mars unless we can do something there, e.g., establish a colony, grow marijuana legally, build a Wal-Mart, or something. Otherwise, it's a one-shot moment and poof, we're back to 'been there, done that.'
Isn't Copenhagen a lot closer? :)
They don't grow weed in christiania, they just sell it... and shoot eachother :)
Evidently they're lousy shots then.
How good can you aim when you're stoned?

I say we figure out how to get to Mars without sapping our economy EVEN MORE and then send up the "face on mars" people to investigate for themselves.

I didn't say we had to figure out how to get them back.

My first thought would be to install a Linux distribution on it and see what it can do for you.
The knowledge gained can only help, even if it doesn't convert you.

On a side note, Qemu didn't want to finish booting it. I think I'm going to have to give it more RAM and install the kqemu accelerator or something.

I'll report back when I get positive results...
