Will ^this 'elevated powershell' program work in Windows 7?

Yes, there's nothing Windows version specific in it as far as I'm aware.  Providing the requirements are met, ie. elevated console, WUPM installed, and Powershell v4+ (it'll probably work with v2+ as that is the minimum for WUPM), it should work all the way back to XP if you want to use it for uninstalling other KBs.

In case it's not obvious, it requires WUSA.exe - I don't know which version of the Windows Installer this arrived in but here's the page for the last available for XP/Vista.

I've only tested on 8.1Pro because that's all I have across all my machines.

What does 'elevated' mean or refer to, please?

Elevated = Run as Admin

The link was only to show you the various methods to get an elevated Powershell console, same applies for Win7.

There's also a version available from iTunes, you can hear a 30sec sample of it here.

I don't really think that would be a sound business model for competitors, "You're having trouble implementing DRM on your open source platform?  Sure, here take the source code for our version and see if it helps bring your product onto the shelf next to ours."

I think the problem is they suffered from DN3DS, (Duke Nukem 3D Syndrome), and instead of delivering what they promised to start with, decided to use even newer and shinier parts as they became available over they course of the project, thereby pushing the date out.

They could of gone back to the funders and asked what they really wanted but I think that would of seriously disillusioned most of them even more considering that we already knew and wanted what we signed up for in the first place.

However, rather than continuing down the same road DN3D did, they've decided to cut their losses and do the right thing by the funders.

Another more general point: the first thing I do when I visit the forum is scroll down to the very bottom to see what's latest in the "Info Center - Active Topics" section. I don't know how many other forum users do that, but if a lot or most of them, then from a usability point of view it might be better to have that section at the very top, so there is no need for all that scrolling. Just a suggestion.

You are the 2nd person who has told me that's how you read the forum. I had no idea people did this.

The first things I do on login in is look at the bottom of the home page to see the recent Active Topics

That makes 3 of us now...  ;)

me too.

Blame me for starting this whole wagon train!

Well then pardner, allow me to also hitch my wagon up.

How about a nice DC coding snack macro to do it all automatically for Win 7, 8, and/or 10? :D

See here for an updated version.

But I'd be happier if I had a MatchStick without DRM...

Got to really agree with this, having used my one year old Chromecast for the first time last Friday.

Even though it's rooted, it is a severely crippled piece of technology that requires I provide it with an internet connection before it will do anything.  Think I'll stick it on ebay and go searching for a cheap Android on a stick solution.

Addendum: Just received my refund.

And to add a request if possible; a Powershell Code Highlighter if there's one available?
done.

Thanks but I have a question, it seems to be the same as generic, ie. no highlighting - is that correct?

eg. I edited my post here: https://www.donation....msg387444#msg387444

Also, I don't know if this is normal or not but the code tag comes out as:
Code: Text [Select]
  1. [code= powershell]

ie. there's a space between the = and powershell, tried removing it but it didn't make any difference.

I don't get how you use that for multiple sites?  And you just have to remember where the password is?  I like the Enigmaze idea better with a diary and UV light and you can trace any path, though that is an interesting idea I'd not seen.

Not sure whether you were referring to how I use them or not but as an example here's two cards, (like I said, I use eight):

card1.png card2.png

Say I choose for my reference Yellow + Sun, without getting too fancy, that gives me six 8+ character passwords on the first, five on the second.

Generally, I'll use the same password, (and an unrelated username to 'normal' sites), across low-grade sites, ie. any site that it doesn't matter if someone logs in as me and screws it up because, quite honestly, I couldn't care less, (I use a throw away Gmail address for these anyway).

For more important sites, (that still don't have direct monetary links, eg. DC), I'll use an individual 8+ character password off one of the cards.

For my VPS' and banks, I use a combination of two of the 8+ character passwords off two of the cards, ie. a 16+ character password, plus TFA.

Shopping sites generally get a combination of two passwords.

For my Gmail addresses I mainly use the same password plus TFA except for two that are used for banking, they have a 28 character passphrases plus TFA.

Also, the number of sites I visit is probably depressingly low compared to other net denizens, so after I've used the various passwords a few times, they've generally stuck in my mind.

The normal way you'd use these cards is you'd only have one and for each site you'd choose a symbol/colour combination but I found that harder to memorise since I then have to associate the arbitrary symbol/colour with a website, then remember which direction to read the password.

So, someone has to choose which one, (or two), of the eight cards I'm using, which symbol/colour I might be starting from, which direction I might be going, and how far along that line I might be traveling.

The eight images are encrypted on my phone, stored online (so I can access from elsewhere), and also a printed out version, using PocketMod, that's the same size as a credit card.

I don't know if it's just because I'm on PM on the tablet but Wiki links aren't showing as links, rather as markup code, eg.

General Software Discussion / Re: Raymond.cc roundup of ad blocking extensions
« Last post by 4wd on August 28, 2015, 10:38 PM »
I find the whole uBlock/uBlock Origin thing to be an unfortunate and confusing mess.
agreed -
the fact of it ('Origin') going beyond my idea of what an adblocker does, made me more active in reporting my preference.

Add me to this list, Origin just became too intrusive so I switched back to uBlock (non-Origin).

FWIW I'm currently using PaleMoon and 'Adblock Latitude' - I am still waiting for the ideal browser/adblocking extension ;-)

I'm using PM with uBlock (0.9.5.0) since they provided support for the pre-Australis interface I thought I may as well try it out - was using Adblock Latitude for a while.

I am with Y:\FIREFOX PERFILES\PEPE\sessionstore-backups\recovery.js

Code: PowerShell [Select]
  1. if (!(Test-Path -Path "Y:\FIREFOX PERFILES\PEPE\sessionstore-backups\recovery.js")) { Exit }
  2. $opentabs = (Get-Content "Y:\FIREFOX PERFILES\PEPE\sessionstore-backups\recovery.js") | ConvertFrom-Json  # Firefox

C:\> powershell.exe -noprofile -executionpolicy bypass -File "C:\Users\JOSE\Desktop\JSON2Shortcut.ps1"

If it's on your Desktop why aren't you running it from the shortcut it came with, (ie. put the shortcut on the Desktop also)?

I'm actually starting to use Enigmaze.

So basically, it's time to go back to using PasswordCard?

That's what I use, eight PasswordCards, same symbol/colour on each but different directions, and for longer passwords I just combine two cards.

After I've entered the passwords a few times I've generally memorised them.

Well, what can I say, worked in PM considering I have uBlock, RefControl, RequestPolicy, and other assorted anti-this&that add-ons I guess i should be amazed it worked.

OTOH, can I sell you a slightly used MySpace account?

One of the posts in the second link mentioned installing it from scratch off the CD/DVD, something to do with getting DirectX installed properly, IIRC.

It appears to have reincarnated itself :)

so this is getting bizarre - been running cyberfox today with onetab and noscript only.  Onetab was there this morning but has since vanished.  It's still installed, but no functionality is exposed.  wtf?

Just had a look at mine, (only use Cyberfox as a test browser), and it's also gone since it was there yesterday.  Tried disabling/enabling which opened the OneTab page but still doesn't bring up the icon in the toolbar.  Uninstalled/reinstalled, deleted localstore.rdf ... it just doesn't want to come back.

Addendum: After all the screwing around yesterday trying to get the icon back, today it decided to reappear ... it's obviously got some sort of moon-phase algorithm in it  :-\

So downloaded CF again and have installed just OneTab, opened/closed the browser a few times, moved the icon to the menu and back a few times, it's still there ... probably won't be tomorrow though.

One of the comments regarding this add-on:
*the lack of active updates resulted in the addon's eventual incompatibility with FF40.0.2; the icon disappeared from my toolbar and reinstalling 40 caused all my settings and tabs (thankfully there was only one) to be lost

Did you mean Viva Piñata ?

According to Microsoft at least 2 people say it runs on Win10.

Here's an active thread with a few posts saying it runs on 10.

If you didn't mean Viva Piñata just ignore me.  :)

Short answer:
1) Enable JBODw in the NAS, (assuming it has it).
2) Map Y: to the NAS.

Data backups will be up to you as there is NO redundancy with JBOD.

Perhaps give Cyberfox Portable a go, I just copied my profile from PM and then installed OneTab and everything worked, (except PM specific add-ons, to be expected).

Disclaimer: The following is an example of how it could be done using Powershell v3+.  It has no error checking, >>> no support <<<.

Purely done to give someone else an idea and because I needed the mental exercise.

It uses information and script from:
Get list of open tabs
Remove illegal characters
Creating Desktop shortcuts

It will create a folder called Tabs-yyyymmddhhmmss on the Desktop, it will create shortcuts using the first 15 (if possible) characters of the page title plus a random number between 1 and 1000, eg. All Unread Topi_44.url purely as a simple method to try and avoid name collision.

It's been tested on Firefox 40.0.2 and will probably work on other Mozilla based browsers providing you point it to the equivalent JSON file and it's object order is the same, (otherwise just edit the object references).

NOTE: The creation/updating of the session file, (recovery.js), lags a little behind what you see in the browser, (up to about 30 seconds or so).

Tested with portable browsers.

It requires Powershell v3.0+

It can be run using the icon or from the CLI: powershell.exe -noprofile -executionpolicy bypass -File "<path to>\JSON2Shortcut.ps1"

DO NOT forget to edit the icon properties if it's not in the same folder as the Powershell script.

BIGGER DISCLAIMER: It worked on my system, it's guaranteed you'll say it doesn't work on yours.  Reread the first line.

Updated, see this post - now outputs to shortcuts and/or text file.
