So, "not..."  ;-)

-thanks, erikts, but
My Firefox Update History is of course reflecting that, automatic updating is disabled.
I have updated it 3 times: July (v22), August (v23), September (v24):

2013-11-26_084206.gif

so why did Firefox suddenly try to update nevertheless?  :tellme:
1503
First title was: "How can Firefox search for updates when aut updating not is enabled?", but I think this new title is more accurate.
----------------------

My Outpost Security Suite Pro 8 popped up a warning basically saying "mozilla firefox/Updater.exe is trying to do something...", and blocked the updater. I went to check my settings, because I never have auto-updating enabled in Firefox, and surely it was disabled => "Never search for updates".

But how can Firefox (24) search for updates when auto updates not is enabled?  :tellme:
And are there other forms of "contacts" Mozilla also is lying about?

This is the first time I have this problem with Firefox. A scanning revealed no problems.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Surfulater at BdJ today ($39.50)
« Last post by Curt on November 21, 2013, 03:20 PM »
Because of "SNG" (Surfulater Next Generation), I am inclined to think the present version (without SNG) is a better choice for some. One some being me! I have a visual memory, I know where my stuff is placed because I can visualize the location. What can confuse me, is what words I should type, if I were to search for my stuff, only by using tags. Next Gen is all about tags; skipping the folders and replacing them with tags. Surfulater Next Gen is  most likely not for me.

Of course Surfulater Next Gen must be expected to be version 4, a major version's upgrade.

Rumors of Zen Magnets' death are greatly exaggerated.

Answers to 3 recent questions:

Q: Yo, is you guyz still in biziness?
A: Yes, we certainly are. Still fighting the CPSC, and we shall continue to our last drop of cashflow blood. Odds looking very good.

Q: Why was the last newsletter over a year ago?
A: Part busy, part lazy, mostly because we don't like excessive emails ourselves. Zen Magnets still loves you.

Q: Why are your products sold out?
A: They're not. Most are available (for now). A re-invented gift set is near debut. More info this month.

FineReader 11 Professional, "an Award Winning OCR Application", is at least one year old, so maybe version 12 is on its way? Anyway, version 11 is on discounted offer via Bits du Jour today, Friday 15. Nov. 2013. Considering the enormity of the normal price, ($170), 50% off really makes a difference: $85

‘PC settings’ gets major makeover in Win8.1
By Fred Langa on November 13, 2013 in Top Story:

Microsoft made a host of changes to the commands and options on Windows 8.1′s PC settings page, adding new functions and moving or renaming others.

The result is a better user experience — but one that’s undeniably confusing at first. Here’s a guide to the most important changes.

After The Gold Rush by Prelude 1974

1516
It's free in the USA and Canada.

-then it is obviously the wrong service and chart I have linked to!
1517
Sorry, I should have been more clear. I do it all the time using my Google Voice number through Google Talk. Well, it's actually been renamed to Google Hangouts. But basically, just open up Gmail or Google+ and Hangouts, then make a call to a phone. I don't even have phone service most of the time. I just use Google Voice when I'm connected to the internet (even on my Android phone).

Hangouts seems not to be free of charge. How much money are you spending for how many national calling hours per month? I mean, is it really really cheap?

After-edited:
I have found the prices, and unless you are in the USA or India, it is not even cheap. I phone a lot cheaper. https://www.google.com/voice/rates

Well, the idea sounded good.

I am wondering if the song could have been Irish: Gaudete ...
... definitely not Irish - Latin lyrics, with a melody of unknown (possibly Skandinavian) origin - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaudete

-thanks a lot for this interesting information, Tom. Because I right away didn't understand what they were saying, I never bothered to actually listen to the lyrics.

I am wondering if the song could have been Irish: Gaudete by Steeleye Span from 1973, here from 2008 but almost a copy of their original version:

some kind of a non-existing language.  Possibly using also words like pop, whizz, and so forth

- TaoPhoenix and the word "possibly" made me think Japanese could be right. However, it was first released already in 1961, so it's probably not the one he's asking for.

My instinct says "Look what they've done to my song" with both English and French lyrics.

No, of course not, it has been played so many times since then that MerleOne would know it.

Hm... what then?

I have been struck by a violent nostalgia access and I am currently looking for an old song.  It was sung, in the seventies, as far as I remember, by a young girl, possibly British, and she sang in some kind of a non-existing language.  Possibly using also words like pop, whizz, and so forth.
I'd be most grateful if someone could identify this very unique song.

Come on, MerleOne, I am certain you can remember just a little more! What year? Was it slow or fast - soft or hard - did they use an accordion, or maybe some drums, or, or?
 :tellme:
I was born in 1957 and the radio was my friend, so just maybe...

-my vote (also) goes to WizTree because of the speed. The first time I launched (the portable version of) WizTree, I was annoyed that I could only chose an entire drive, instead of merely a directory - I thought it would take too long. Faster than it took to think the sentence, WizTree had already scanned the entire C drive! It really is like 4wd said, ridiculously fast - and merely 1½ MB!

This doesn't include lifetime updates.  The 'fineprint' tab says:
Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for 3 months. For versions after that, upgrades will require additional payment, which will be discounted.

-thanks.
I have written and objected to their use of the sentence: "a lifetime of protection"

I still remember when Audials gave me a lifetime key.... for version 8 and 8 alone!
