There are a bunch of 3rd party services that will let you create and gather data.  They charge different prices based on how frequently you need to conduct surveys and how many people will be answering.
They are quite smooth and work well.
These days more and more services like this, which one used to install software for on your own server, are now being handled by specialty websites for a cost.

If the cost makes sense for you then it can save you a ton of hassle to use one of these 3rd party sites, especially if it's just a one-of survey and not a regular thing.

Perhaps the best known and most advertised service is SurveyMonkey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/

Some alternatives can be found here: https://alternative.me/surveymonkey

Screenshot Captor / Re: Screenshot Captor from Visual Basic?
« Last post by mouser on August 28, 2019, 03:04 PM »
Invoking Screenshot Captor from the commandline will not create a new instance of Screenshot Captor -- it will instead direct the currently running copy to perform a capture.
So you can invoke it from Visual Basic by launching it with commandline options.

So try from visual basic executing something (with Shell command?) like
C:\Program Files (x86)\ScreenshotCaptor\ScreenshotCaptor.exe -capture workspace

Yeah grabbing a selected region in SC, when not using "red box capture mode" actually takes a full screen screenshot, and then displays that on the screen for you to do a region select, so it makes sense that it would pop the current full screen game out of full screen mode.

To avoid that you could either just do a full screen capture, telling SC to stay minimized, OR try changing the options to RED BOX capture mode when capturing regions, which might avoid the game popping out of full screen mode (not sure).

Strange.  It would be interesting to know if a reboot solved it.  It's possible that an update of the graphics adapter driver has used some new higher speed mode that can't be captured.. Or it's possibly some anti-screenshot code was added to the software..
Any other thoughts by anyone?

In the Screenshot Captor help file you'll find a section on Commandline use and options.

But you might also check out the littler brother of Screenshot Captor called MiniCap, which is a smaller commandline tool designed to be invoked from other programs:

Screenshot Captor / Re: Bug: desktop folder was found but is not writeable
« Last post by mouser on August 22, 2019, 02:35 PM »
Strange! It definitely seems like a more general problem if you are having trouble saving things to the desktop.

The easiest solution in Screenshot Captor is to change the screenshot directory to a directory you are allowed to save files (see the GoTo menu).

But it really seems like you need to figure out how to fix the core problem of not being able to save files to your E:\desktop folder.

Forgot to reply to this!

I have a 2017 Giant Roam 2.  It's a hybrid bike -- so a bit like a mountain bike but with less aggressive tires so suitable for reasonable amounts of road riding, and not heavy trails.

So far I'm really liking it, and gadgeting it up like mad (rear cargo carrier, lights, etc.).  The seat was too small for me so I've swapped that out.

The only thing I'm still adjusting to is the flat mountain bike handlebars.. They felt ok until I tried a friends nice cruiser touring upright handlebars which felt like heaven taking a relaxed cruise.. For longer rides I'm sure I'd appreciate my bike more but for leisurely cruise, I'm envious of the relaxed nice high upright handlebars...

Screenshot Captor / Re: Standalone screenshot window
« Last post by mouser on August 19, 2019, 08:42 PM »
Ok well I am open to hearing requests to modify that functionality.  My memory is it was implemented mainly so people could view captures at FULL screen size, without the normal SC interface getting in the way.. Most useful for people with multiple monitors, so one monitor can be only the screenshot and another is SC with large thumbnail browser functionality.

when you say 'mini version of the screenshot' is that the 'toggle standalone screenshot window' option?

no, it's quite different.  it's what you get what you choose "after capture show: post-capture pop-up dialog"

Screenshot Captor / Re: Standalone screenshot window
« Last post by mouser on August 19, 2019, 05:36 PM »
is there a reason why the capture window can't 'pop up' by default?

I'm not sure what you mean by the capture window..  SC has 3 basic options for what to do after a screenshot.  It can pop up a small post-capture dialog to show you a mini version of the screenshot and give you some choices.  Or it can restore it's main window to let you edit the screenshot, etc.  Or it can stay minimized.

The difficulty in what you are requesting is simply that it is basically asking for a 4th option -- you want to pop-up the capture, but in a way that closes if you click outside of it, and you want it to be sized for the capture (at least when feasible).  I'm thinking it would be easier to write/use a standalone viewer for that and just tell SC to launch it after each capture and keep itself minimized.

This doesn't really answer your question directly, but what you could do is have SC stay minimized after a capture, and have it launch a 3rd party standalone tool after each screenshot, passing it the screenshot file name.
So that standalone could do what you want, and you might find an image viewer that behaves as you want.
In fact a while ago someone made one for dc folks that was all about showing an image in an overlay (semi-transparent?) fashion..

I picked up this awesome $21 bike "computer" gadget for my bike last week; nicely shows speed, and lots of information in a nice way:

ps I haven't ridden a bike in 20 years but last week we did two 20 mile trips, and then on a whim signed up for a 50 mile event yesterday.. We had fun!

Living Room / Re: Buying a 2TB SSD to replace my 2TB HDD
« Last post by mouser on August 16, 2019, 10:55 PM »
samsung seems to make some of the best SSD.

Many of us are running a combination of a good SSD as the C drive, and then a traditional large HD as D drive.  There are some advantages of this:
1. You don't have to get as big an SSD.
2. With 2 hds, you can more easily backup your system drive to the traditional large HD.
3. Even the largest most expensive SSD cannot compare with capacity of cheap traditional HD.

Downsides:
1. Worry of running out of space on your C drive.
2. No speedup of access of data files on D drive.

DC Website Help and Extras / New anti-spam process being put into place
« Last post by mouser on August 15, 2019, 01:54 AM »
We are testing a new anti-spam process, where the first post of a new member will not be visible until it is approved.
If we can get it working, the amount of spam visible on the forum should drop considerably.

But the potential for real visitors being confused and having their post not show up for a bit is a concern.

Please let me know if you have any trouble posting on the forum ([email protected] or see the contact page).
