YES!
I have found a better (and more user friendly) program. It takes less work to setup, and seems to scan faster and easier.

There are 3 files attatched to this...

1 is the new setup (for new users)
2 is the Upgrade for our existing users (untested, but I am about to do so)
3 is the new AutoMaintenance file. CURRENT USERS - THIS DOES NOT NEED TO BE DOWNLOADED MANUALLY! The upgrade file will take care of that.

As always, I have made it as user friendly as I can, with most automated in the setup/upgrade. The AutoMaintenance itself is still 100% automatic :)

Update: The problems have been resolved and all 3 programs are bug-free. Sorry again for the inconvenience all.

Program update: The final update has been released. The updater will reflect this and the new program is below.

Get the 1.2 version either in the below post or by simply clicking here: https://www.donation...=8345.0;attach=19099

Oh dear- hmm...
Yes, lets look for a better solution there also (I had no problems with it, but thats my PCs).
Use the Undo function to repair your system to original and I will look for a better registry cleaner and hopefully have one up asap.

Yea I will update the setup program now and post an updated version. If you already have Wise Registry Cleaner it will notify you and provide a download link if you open it manually. Thanks for the info Curt!

Edit: Scratch that, Wise Registry Cleaner has the same download link for all newer versions.

Thanks mouser - I think it turned out pretty good.

Well after taking out the old hard drive with Maze Craze on it, installing it into my new PC and attempting to copy the files I located the files already on my current hard drive (DOH!). So I will resume working on that soon. I was kinda worried I would have to reprogram the whole game. Phew :)

Right now I am just going to work on getting 50 single player levels, about 25 2 player levels and fixing up the Player Assistant a bit. Any other ideas I will gladly take (as always).

Programs! They are here!

OK, here are the 2 maintenance programs described earlier in the thread.

Please note - you MUST run the Setup program first (unless you already have all 6 programs installed in their default locations).

If you run into a problem be sure to simply post here in this topic and I will work to get it resolved as quickly as possible.

When you are running the AutoMaintenance program itself, you may leave your PC. It is not necessary to simply sit and watch it work (unless you are interested). It will run 100% on its own and (as far as I know) will take care of any dialog boxes or anything else. You do need to read the opening dialog box on the first run, however - it contains important information.

DonationCredits are requested - but (seriously) don't go out of your way to give me any. I understand peoples financial situations and, after all, this is a free program - you aren't going to get better treatment or "priority" help for donations.

Thanks everyone for testing/using my program and I hope it becomes an easy way to take care of your PC.
-Brandon

(Note: This is just a normal tune-up type program - for special stuff like making startup faster, updating programs, removing viruses or spyware, or anything like that, contact me via PM.)

P.S. Thanks Darwin!

!IMPORTANT! - The AutoMaintenance program only works on the 1280x1024 resolution! A 1024x768 resolution version will be released in the next day or so.

Yea - May 25th or so till about August 20th is my summer break (I am out of district too; the kids around here get over a week less then me ;D)
1457
Actually I have been out of school for almost a month :)
And yea, I get up around 11 AM and go to sleep around 1 AM (and fall asleep around 1:30-2AM).
I fit in working on Maze Craze, working on my little programs and playing games along with everything else. Not really a big deal though.

OK, some big news here...
I have programmed my first actual "program" in AutoHotKey. Actually, 2 programs. And they are both made to make both your and my life easier. How? Well, let me explain.

Program 1:
CompuTech AutoMaintenance Setup & Configuration
This little program lets you download all 6 programs that are used in program 2, install them, and configure them to work with program 2. And it goes step-by-step. Simple right? Well, it should be. *NOTE* I have not tested this program. I REALLY need a tester that has none of the programs on their computer to get with me on AIM/MSN Messenger/Yahoo Messenger and beta test it for me. If you can please PM me.

Program 2:
CompuTech AutoMaintenance
This is the actual program you use regularly (Task Scheduler for all you forgetful people like me) to clean, fix and optimize your computer. It now (thanks to wr975) is 100% automatic and is ready for public release. It runs all 6 programs with no user input (except for a couple info dialogs at the beginning) and restarts the computer afterwards. I have tested it on my home computers and it works amazingly.

So, summing up, running the first program lets new users get started and the second program lets everyone keep their computer in perfect condition, with next to no input (I am going to the AHK site now to look into making the info boxes time out so you can schedule it to run in the middle of the night).

Just FYI: Anyone can contact me/add me to their instant messenger contact list anytime, just PM me and I will send the names/addresses to you.

I will post the files here in a few hours (after I wake up around noon my time :P).

Holy cow it worked! It worked! I spent like 2 hours on this ;D- thanks so much! :-* :)

No, I looked at it but it was kind of confusing - too many commands for me. So I would have to put in...
CoordMode, Mouse, Screen
Click x, y

instead of my current setup, simply being...
Click 808, 771

OK, I will give that a go.

Living Room / Trying to learn AHK - stuck with Click command. Any help?
« Last post by wreckedcarzz on June 14, 2007, 11:26 PM »
OK for everyone who knows how to do this or has any ideas...
I am coding an automatic computer maintenance program (see here: https://www.donation...p?topic=8345.new#new) and I have 2 problematic programs that REQUIRE the user to click - no Tab or Alt keyboard commands work. So, I went ahead and (I am still using the Quick Start Tutorial, I don't feel comfortable on my own quite yet) looked up how to do it. OK, easy enough. I added it into the script, tried it out, and it clicked off on Windows Sidebar instead of on the button I gave the coordinates to. So I went back and used the coordinates in relevance to the active window (I am assuming its from pixel 1x1 of the window) and that did something similar. So I have currently got it set to move the mouse to 0, 0 and THEN click the coordinates (relevant to the whole screen). It STILL does not work...I am going to give it another go with the active window coordinates, but please someone tell me if I am doing something right/something wrong/another way to click.
Thanks,
-Brandon

Thanks tomos, it means a lot. Glad to see you got your sound up and running :)
I skimmed through the defragging thread and Curt sent me a PM to one of the apps listed in the thread, one of the registry defragmenters. I am going to test it in the next day or two and see what it can do. I *THINK* (bad memory) I have heard of and used for a day or two JkDefrag - but I had the command prompt interface and it didn't help (about 2 years ago). I will look into that as well though.

The AHK script launches the following apps (in this order, for a reason - if anyone cares PM me and I will give you my logic behind this setup)

CCleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com/
Windows CleanUp! - http://www.stevengou...rg/software/cleanup/
Wise Registry Cleaner 2 - http://www.wisecleaner.com/
IObit Advanced WindowsCare V2 Personal - http://www.iobit.com/
IObit SmartDefrag Beta 3 - http://www.iobit.com/
Free Registry Defrag - http://www.registry-...-registry-defrag.htm

I am looking for a better (freeware) registry defragmenter, if anyone can find (or code!) one, PLEASE send a PM my way!

Hey all,
Not much going on with Maze Craze lately - in converting to my new computer I (conveniently) left the whole game on the other computer, so I have to find time to get that set back up and all...
Check out the final version of the website and give some feedback (please!). I think it fits well with the entire theme of the game, but thats just my opinion.
Thanks all,
-Brandon

P.S.: I *think* I FINALLY got the confirmation e-mail for Game Maker Pro - I am not sure so don't get your hopes up just yet.

Hi everyone!
In both trying to keep this thread active and giving an update to everyone...
I have now got a list of 6 applications for tuning/cleaning/optimizing/etc computers, as well as I (finally) took it upon myself and made a program in AutoHotKey that (once the applications are installed and configured) does 1/2 of the maintenance by itself, then helps you out through the other part. Its a beta (beta 1 - the first fully functional version) so I can't say it will work correctly, but it usually does (depending on your configuration). Send me a PM if you want me to work on your PC remotely or give you instructions (long) on how to do it yourself. Both ways I will give you the .exe so you can easily run the tools without help.
Hope to get some feedback,
-Brandon

I do have to agree with the first half of the statement...

Basically the pc is "bloated from all the trial software he has installed", while the mac "comes with all the software you need".

As I am getting a new PC tomorrow, and the thought of taking off Norton, AOL, and all the other crap that comes with it is just enough to shove me over the edge into reformatting...

Also, in response to mouser's statement...

Am i the only one who gets a real and satisfying enjoyment out of trying new software?

Dear lord no...I download stuff I know is useless to me just to see how it works, and just in case I might use it later. I LOVE massing with apps, useful or not, just to (as odd as it sounds) have fun every once in a while. :P

I go insane just downloading tons and tons of stuff, configuring it, trying it out and uninstalling most (if not all) within the next couple of days. I just enjoy it...strange enough ;D

I only use Windows and Linux, I hate Apple/Mac (I only use iTunes, and its...well I am forced to use it- the only reason I do). Too limited and over-rated software.

Just my 2-cents

OK, yea I didn't think about that when I made the autosave feature...I will try have it in the next update (after I get my new PC up and running, so it may be delayed a bit longer then I would prefer). Never did think about that...thanks.

OK, yea I agree the website isn't at all great, but I am working on it with rough HTML and mspaint (update is due soon though). Also wondering what would look good for a color scheme for the next release (2.2 will probobly be the last with this color scheme unless enough people like it). Any ideas?

 ;D
After being able to come back to this thread, I was reading the posts above and was kinda shocked...I always used Outlook for just email and contacts...forgot it was for the Exchange server and calender and stuff too :P
why say obvious and Microsoft in one and same sentence..

You never know what they are up to (even if it is obvious)...but I am sure they don't know either ;D

Hi again everyone,
Just wondering if anyone has tried the new version yet. I haven't had the time to work on the game itself, but have been working on the site and other things. Also...just for a little competition, do you think an online scoreboard would be interesting or challenge each other? Not sure how I would set it up but it's possible.
OH, before I forget, I need to mention that you should press Numpad 5 somewhere in one of the levels when you have time...the Numpad arrow keys control what appears :)
-Brandon
1471
OK, I have looked over the new version and am going to call it official as I don't see any bugs and it looks a lot better then the  last version. Walt created a nice new site that is going up with the 2.1 game version and it goes along with the color theme. I myself think it looks good, its a great change from the things I was able to do and it just seems to fit. Level 25 and higher go to the maximum 1024x768 resolution, and they are a lot easier to navigate then the levels before them.
I hope everyone enjoys this one, the next one might have a new color theme, but will have at least 50 levels (and more 2 player ones, too).
-Brandon
1472
Hey just wondering if anyone needs help- tomorrow is my last day of school so I can take on a couple problems at a time from now on.
-Brandon
1473
OK the new version is now available via the updater and the site download page.
Here are a few problems with the new release, in no order.
-The Player Assistant function is still failing, creating anywhere from 3-10+ of itself when the key is pressed.
-The new levels are no matching up with each other (end of level x doesn't match start of level y).
-The new levels have NOT been tested AT ALL. Expect problems.
-The main menu page shows the 2.0.0 release version and date.
-The system requirements are incorrect.
-I need to update the help file.

I am addressing these now, so I may update it again in the next day or two.

Other then that (in my opinion, long) list of problems, the game is looking good.
-Brandon

Edit: 5 problems have been addressed, and the site will be updated with Beta 3 in the next day or two. I simply ask that someone test the new levels for problems; they have been looked over and there are no apparent problems, but please send any in.

Edit 2: Also check out the site, I redid a couple parts and Walt Winstel (head graphics developer) made some really good looking graphics for it. It is also now 100% dial-up friendly :D
1474
OK quick update...
I know I missed my release date :( and I am REALLY sorry about that everyone, just got caught up in a field trip, migraine, busyness and other things and I didn't remember until about 12:30AM my time (it is now 1:20AM). I have updated MC after having to download Game Maker and Core FTP LE again, but now I still have to get Nvu and then upload the game to the site. I am once again REALLY sorry, but it will be uploaded today (but I have to get some shut-eye first...I am in bad shape).

I have an ATi Radeon X1300 512MB onboard RAM (AGP 8x) in my system currently. I don't mind the noise, and have a couple fans newly installed. I found a mobo for 90 and a P4 CPU for 80, so yea 170 isn't cheap, but I am playing games that the CPU doesn't even support anymore (NFS Carbon is supposed to have a P4 at 1.7Ghz with HT and a couple other things that I don't have). I took a look on NewEgg for the Intel Core Duo (E6320) you said to get, and its only 1.86Ghz :(
The main problem is that the prices for the Core 2 Duo CPU's are still WAY to high for the speed I need (NewEgg only has 2.4Ghz and those are 225 by themselves :o)
