Living Room / Re: Problem Opening Attachments

Are you sure that those attachments are supposed to be interesting files?
A .msg extension points to an email attachment (the attachment itself is another mail) (see here for more ints at what it could be).

JGPaiva's GridMove and Ahk Tools / Re: Install/startup problem wit GridMove
« Last post by jgpaiva on April 13, 2008, 05:39 AM »
I have no idea what autopatcher is...
But the problem there is that gridmove's code is spread through 4 files, which are included at the end of "gridmovep1.ahk". So, if you remove those 4 last lines and replace them with the right files, it should work.

Hello!

I'm really sorry, but my DC todo list has been very delayed... Last week my laptop's hard drive died :(
Fortunatelly, all DC-related source code was saved, but now i have to catch up on one week of school work!!

Actually, that link is for "addons", thus, it also includes aliases ;)

Still, the best way to install plugins for farr would probably be to select "check for updates" in the context menu, then select on DCupdater the "to be installed" tab. (hopefully i got the names right :) )

For this job, i'd recomment something like bb4win, which is a shell that mimics linux's fluxbox. If there's a way to do it without having to change the shell, it'd be preferable, though.

Well.. Given the fact that my laptop's HDD died the day before yesterday and i'm on "project time" (that's what we call the few weeks in the middle of the semester where it's a rush everyday trying to get all projects done), i sure can't be at 100%.
Still, I've been able to use my computer through an ubuntu live CD, and store most of the stuff on an USB pen, and i'll be able to recover most of the data from the near-dead HDD. Also, ubuntu has been treating me well (way better than i expected), and my school gets me access to computers with no problem.
Also, i'm still being able to be productive (maybe even more than before, since i don't have as much distractions :P), and the projects are going well. Thus, i just chose a 70% ;)

Find And Run Robot / Re: Scroll through the results list
« Last post by jgpaiva on April 03, 2008, 08:42 PM »
Sorry, i didn't express myself correctly. I meant that currently there's no button / context menu item /etc option for that, the only way to do it is to add +sall to you query.

I believe someone also suggested that when you press down and you're on the last item of the list, farr should scroll down into the rest of the list, thus, you sure aren't alone with that idea!

There's no way to visually do this, but if you add '+sall' (for Show ALL), farr will display all the found results.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Remove entry numbers

Currently, that isn't a very good idea, because even after you disable those options, you can still launch by using the F keys (F1 launches the first option, F2 launches the second one, etc).
I personally wouldn't like it to be disabled.
Also, yet another option for something as small sounds like a bit of overkill...

General Software Discussion / Re: Creative Labs
« Last post by jgpaiva on April 01, 2008, 05:44 AM »
At the very least, i recognize something good in creative: They didn't delete the negative comments the user posted at that thread.
There are a lot of companies which enforce censorship in their forums (linksys being the most obvious i can think of now) and delete anything that might prove the nasty company they are.

Here's another thread with the same request. Looks like this is something mouser should look into ;)

General Software Discussion / Re: What's the current 'killer app'?
« Last post by jgpaiva on March 30, 2008, 07:07 PM »
Well.. For work, it certainly is Eclipse, i still haven't seen an IDE that compares to it.
For general purpose, the 2 apps i miss the most when i don't have them are FARR(i can't launch programs if i close FARR) and Opera (my web browsing slows down by like 20x if i have to use any other browser).

I don't know for FLAC, OGG and MA files, but for MP3, this could be done in java using this, for example.

General Software Discussion / Re: check server to see if its up

The problem is the image gothic posted (the ahahah one), which for some strange reason triggers that certificate error. (if you don't accept the certificate, you can't see the image)

[edit] i removed the https, it should be OK now. [/edit]

Why does this thread keep asking me to accept a certificate from localhost.localdomain? No other place on this site asks me for it. It's just this thread.
Weird, i also got the same!

And the strangest part is that it doesn't even change to https after the certificate is accepted!

I think that SandboxIE could probably do this. I've found that it doesn't work will ALL apps, but when it works, it allows you to know where it has written. (it doesn't tell you where the app read, though.. i think)

Living Room / Re: So how long IS too long for a thread.
« Last post by jgpaiva on March 25, 2008, 07:48 PM »
Some of my favourite boards don't have separate forums and don't have threads. There is just a single continuous series of posts. One I am looking at now has nearly 250,000 posts. Now that is what I call a long thread.  ;D
;D ;D
I guess you're right, that IS a long thread. I had no knowledge about such thing. That must be a bit confusing at times, no?

The 'recent' Evernote thread for instance started on EN2.2 and ended on EN3, with the obligatory diversion onto SQLnotes for a time. Moderators on some boards would proactively split threads like that. Would that be better?
Around here, it isn't usual for mods to split threads unless stuff really derails (like going from a software product to beer brands :P). Personally, i find that spliting threads gets a bit confusing to understand, because both threads are linked together.

Even though we are entering the gray area (where a forum starts discussing the inner works of the forum more than the interesting outside matters), i think this is a good point.

I've noticed this problem myself with the giant GridMove thread, that became so big that any information in it is pretty much useless now.

I think app was "right on the money" there:
When you compare the discussion on page 15 to page 1 and find they are totally unrelated.  :D

4 out of the 10 longest threads on DC are development-related (5 if you count the "General brainstorming for Note-taking software"). This makes me think these are the threads that tend to grow and grow and grow.
I think it's a shame that happens, because even though it eases the development, people just end up repeating stuff that was already said in previous posts (i recall a specific post about gridmove that i had to link to 5 times, because that question constantly popped up).

Still, it's interesting how all the threads have managed to respect app's "not too long" rule, after all those posts they keep on topic (at least most of the posts do).

I see, jakob.

Mouser: how about a command line switch to solve this problem?
1474
This is the normal way of operating for most programs that minimize to tray, they open in the same state they were closed.
Now, finding a way to not have SC do this without mouser having to add (yet) another option in the options menu sounds a bit hard.

jakob: why exactly do you want SC to open maximized?

Find And Run Robot / Re: Questions about aliases

3. Yes, that's exactly what I want - to copy the search result.
Currently, farr can't do that (copy files to the windows clipboard).
What you can do is: open the place you want to copy the files, then drag+drop the files from farr to there. (this is VERY useful when you want to send stuff through windows live messenger, just find it in farr and then drag+drop into messenger's window)

PS: you can also copy the pathname of a file by setting the focus to it and pressing ctrl-c
